  1. My wife and I will be traveling to China she has a current Chinese passport, which she will use for entry into China she will not need to present her 2 year green card? Upon returning she will need to present her Chinese passport and green card (2-year immigration card CR-1) at the U.S. P.O.E? Will she go through the U.S. P.O.E? I would appreciate any information from others who have had their SO's return from China after living in the U.S. she been here over a year now. Thanks Bill
  2. I have seen the V sign used there with no ill affects - Zilch I always thought it meant peace.
  3. My wife was in china for two months.. she applied the day after she got there.. and by the time she left, she still did not get it. Hopefully, it's not like this everywhere.. just apply ASAP upon arrival.. then maybe a family member will have to get it later. Thank you David that is what she will do apply as soon as we arrive and hopefully she can have a family member pick it up. Do you have any idea on how they notify you, possibly by mail?
  4. Has anyone's SO received his or her new Chinese ID card? My wife will get hers when we go to China. I was wondering how long is the wait process once you go to the police station and submit your paperwork and have your photo taken. http://www.cardtechnology.com/article.html...0060124C26IGKNT http://esubulletin.com/~editor/chinaid.htm
  5. I was at the Tee-Mall in beautiful downtown Guangzhou in December, and there was this long line of at least 30 people, out the front door, waiting to get the next available seat in the new and very large, Pizza Hut restaurant. I could not believe my eyes !! Also the KFC restaurant on the same level was packed with eager diners. However, my wife does not care for KFC, hamburgers, or pizza. Her #1 favorite dish is Bok Choy and steamed fish !!! I have assured her that all of the supermarkets in the Sacramento area, have an ample supply of fresh, baby bok choy !!!! As a lover of Mexican food, I wonder how a taco or burrito stand would do in China !!?? I still have not been able to locate a Mexican restaurant in Guangzhou. My wife is also from Southern China and loves to make dumplings, which we had for supper and I will have for lunch today. We live on the out skirts of Sacramento my wife's favorite Chinese markets are Vinh Phats and S.F. Market they have a great variety of Asian foods.
  6. My wife and I do not eat fast foods or processed foods. She has got accustom to salads and make her own version of a taco, one slice of bacon (optional) on a tortilla with cheese, tomato's, cucumbers, carrots, avocado and lettuce I will ad some salsa she some Ranch dressing. She has had lasagna and pizza, which she likes but not spaghetti. For the most part we eat mainly a Chinese diet which I feel is fresher and healthier than the traditional western dishes. Most of the American food she has tried has been from the private college she works at which serves organic healthy alternatives, the college practices Biodynamic agriculture which recognizes the basic principles at work in nature and applies this knowledge of life forces to bring about balance and healing in the soil. At a time when new synthetic chemicals are being injected into the environment on a daily basis, Biodynamics works to counteract the unbalanced state of modern agricultural practices by utilizing a "whole systems" approach. Biodynamics is built on the premise that the more self-sufficient a farm is, the healthier it will be. The aim is to have a great diversity of plant and animal life. At the heart of Biodynamics is the use of special preparations in homeopathic doses that enhance the life of soil, plants, and animals.
  7. No I cannot remember her ever talking to me intentionally knowing I cannot understand her. She now spends much more time teaching me the Chinese languages

  9. My wife had a pap smear which is a test for cancer of the cervix (cervical cancer). The test was covered under our insurance provider all we had was a co pay of $15.00.
  10. What a great feeling congratulations. My wife will be filing for her 10-year green card this coming year 2007 in September. I know we will be glad like you are now feeling that this process has been completed. Good luck in whatever the future holds for you both.
  11. My wife started working in June and we do not rely on her income to make ends meet. She has sent money to her family and their children for their educational needs; clothing, dental work, and for special holiday occasions. It gives her a lot of pleasure to help her family and I support her all the way. It has definitely helped supplement their income mainly for the children ensuring that they have what is needed to succeed in their education and giving them a better future.
  12. Anything in a can, I donated all my can and boxed foods to our food drive, my wife just can not see eating anything processed especially soups. She does like cheeses and we do not eat sweets, she made some pecan cupcakes without sugar they were good.
  13. I saw blood pudding or blood tofu or whatever it is actually called in many restaurants in China it has the appearance of pudding and it is normally cut in cubes, I see it here at the Chinese markets in the deli. I do not know what blood is mostly used but I believe it is pork; we only use chicken since we raise our own and I know their healthy poultry.
  14. We raise our own free-range chickens my wife will feed them rice along with their feed, on a cold morning she will take some rice from the rice cooker and add some feed while the rice is still warm/hot and feed it to the chickens they love it as the steam is coming off it. When I am working in the garden like I am currently doing the chickens will gather around and wait for me to turn the soil then it is like a free for all to get the worms my wife tells me worms make the yolk orange. When my wife butchers our chickens she will hold them by the feet upside down then take the head and pull it up to the feet exposing the neck with one hand, with her other hand she will take the cleaver and slice the throat and bleed the chicken blood into a bowl which will coagulate and be added to the soup later, it actually stays together in one piece, I believe this is what is called blood pudding it is actually sweet tasting to me.Then she will take a cooking pot and warm some water submerging the chicken and then plucking it they turn out beautiful, not much goes to waste she cleans the internal organs by using salt and oil. After cooking she takes out the chicken and butchers it and uses the broth for the soup. We raise hens we had one young rooster but when he started crowing he was the first to go to the pot. We use a food grade diatomaceous earth, which we feed to the chickens and dust their coop with to kill worms and parasites. I do not think you can find a healthier chicken than a free-range my wife does not like commercially raised chickens.
  15. Do they take personal checks or do you need to send a money order for the $15?? I actually sent a personal check I thought they were going to return it. They did cash the check. It states I believe a money order.
  16. My wife also owns her apartment in China. It's in a very nice area, and we've chosen to rent it out rather than sell it. It also gives us a place to live when we return to China to live.... My wife will also keep her apartment she owns which is within a short walking distance from the South China Sea. Her apartment is on the ground level of a six-story building and includes a garage. We will stay there when we visit early next year. Currently her family watches over the apartment, we pay approximately $40 a month for security, maintenance and power.
  17. Dual Citizenship could be a possibility I do not know how China would feel about this? I would make sure she has a current Chinese passport and she has a current Chinese police certificate before becoming a citizen. The Chinese Government may not renew once they discover she is an U.S. Citizen. http://www.uscis.gov/propub/ProPubVAP.jsp?...3a94e44b7deea69 Proposal submitted for dual nationality(03/14/05) http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/xw/t187211.htm

  19. But my wife loves it. The frozen one doesn't smell. The durian's my wife picks out do not smell bad, she understands and makes sure there are not any crack and not overripe still hard, mostly not soft most are on the smaller size widest in the middle. The dragonfruits are my favorite with the purple flesh and black seeds.
  20. My wife is from Zhanjiang also. We have been finding a lot of durians here, but some of my favorites like dragonfruit with the purple inside not the white and the star fruits are very difficult to locate. I believe because of the shelf life they probably spoil easily. We would go to the plantations in China and pick the dragonfruits in the field.
  21. EE grads most often work for companies and organizations involved in aircraft, appliance, automotive, biomedical, computer and copier manufacturing. Other major employers include hospitals, scientific instrument makers, the military, oil companies, radio and TV stations, steel mills and stereo manufacturers. You did not mention what state you lived in but California, Texas, New York and New Jersey ¨C states with many large electronics firms ¨C employ a majority of all electrical and electronics engineers.
  22. Tony, congratulations! I guess 3.5 months is a very good turn around time or is this standard? I appreciated your information you supplied me in previous post regarding the I-751 not long ago. This will be my next step, what a relief this must be for you to put this behind you. Good luck in the future. Bill

  24. I am very fortunate my wife owned two major restaurants in China lunch alone they would serve 300 people. She has not had much good to say yet about Chinese/American establishments she always makes comments that the oil no good. She uses only fresh oil when cooking and since she is from Southern China she uses mostly garlic and ginger for seasoning there is no need to mask the favor with hot spicy flavoring. Last night she made prawns they were absolutely delicious she made them with a soft batter they were so tasty. I had left the tail on the plate, she ate it so I said what the heck I ate one and from then on they were part of the prawns we ate the whole prawns these were made from some jumbo shrimp with the heads on, she removes the head before cooking. I am very happy and fortunate to have a wife that is such a wonderful cook.
  25. My wife prepared a leopard shark Sunday evening. She took the shark and after running some hot water over it removed the skin by scraping a knife then she cut the tail into small steaks, after frying it in a skillet until the meat turned white added it to a soup along with bamboo hearts and pork backbone. The larger steaks she fried in some olive oil, oyster sauce along with some green onions. Anyway it was delicious it was also very inexpensive only $1.99 a pound we will buy another one for sure this coming weekend. For those that do not like to mess with bones this is the way to go. The supper consisted of shark soup, steaks, rice, and Chinese greens. "Without a doubt, you are what you eat. The chemicals used in growing and processing our foods are toxic no matter how you spin it. Some people can handle the poison better than others". Ken do some research on bentonite clay in the elimination of toxins and chemicals absorb in our bodies from everyday products, food, and even the air we breathe. Nothing like eating some dirt.
