  1. My wife arrived in America on December 21, 2005 on a CR-1, she is ready to take her test for citizenship, she has her 10 year green card, is the filing date based on 12-21-05 so she can submit her application on September 21, 2008 and will she qualifly to take the old test or the new test? What is a good link on CFL to answer many of the question I have? I had meant this post to be listed in citizenship can a mod please relocate it. Thanks!
  2. My wife wakes up everyday and makes breakfast and lunch for me, she has been here almost 3 years. I will take her to work and I then go to my job. She makes me oatmeal or poach eggs (fresh) we have 26 chickens now, on the weekends we will have congee or pancakes and eggs. She has learned to make puff pastries, cookies, muffins, cakes along with her boa's and egg tarts, sesame balls etc. For dinner we have a wide range of foods, lasagna, echillada's, rice, sea food, soups, steak, chicken, pork lots of vegetables, salads, cucumbers in wine vinegar, we have 2 gardens, corn, squash, tomato's, beans, cucumbers, onions, eggplants, fruit trees 20+, figs, peaches, apples, cherries, plums, blackberries etc. she doesn't like resturants but will have dinner waiting for me everyday when I get home, she tells me to stay out of the kitchen which I have adjusted to.
  3. I would go to Guilin, I have been to China 6 times and have yet to make it there. When I retire in a couple of years my wife and I will spend around 6 months in China so I will make it a point to visit then if not sooner.
  4. They also charge a handling fee along with the $14.00 it states it on your transaction.
  5. While I was in China in 2004 during the olympics, they would always tell me America #1 China #2 and what they were referring to was the amount of gold medals each country had, they could care less about any other medal.
  6. Our last trip in April of this year we took ginseng, shark oil, a large costco glass pickle jar empty my wife said they would like that? I gave them currency or proof sets, they seem to like the new designs of our money. They gave me some Hong Kong currency, old silver dollars, and conterfeit money.
  7. I wish my wife wanted to learn to drive. She went to ESL class when she first arrived here, but she got frustrated with all the hispanics speaking Spanish. She wanted to work so I found her a job at an all English speaking college which has helped her learn English and boost her confidence. I live in California she likes to walk to work since it is nearby maybe 5 minutes but it limits her jobs available to her since she doesn't want to learn to drive, I think American drivers intimidate her by their speeding and tailgating.
  8. My wife and I will be visiting the cemetery where my father is buried on Memorial Day, May 26th. I think your wife would appreciate being with you to pay respect to your parents.
  9. That was one of the first things my wife asked me was to take her to the cemetery were my father is buried.
  10. One thing is they do not like to talk about death. My wife and I just came back from China April 14th we had purchased some grave sites earlier for her deceased family members which had been being kept in urns and they paid a yearly fee to be stored in a temple. When we arrived it was at a time when familys paid tribute and honored their memories of their past ancestors (Tomb Sweeping/Mouring Day). Some ancestors are still in graves where you would do a grave cleaning, celebration and make offerings. The Chinese goverment is trying to encourage familys to cremate and scatter the remains due to I quess lack of space and now it is very costly for the Chinese to give them a proper burial, the price is on its way up, normally they would discount prior to the holiday but not this year. One of the most important things to do is ready the dead for their new home since some Chinese believe in ghost, so they will explain to them this is your new home, burn incense to ward off evil spirits that may be lurking, make offerings and burning spirit money.
  11. Costco is still out of rice and people are buying as soon as it arrives. We bought two one hundred pound bags of Cal-Rose from Woodland CA. for $35.99 each at a Chinese market, Costco raised there price to $8.99 for a 25 pound bag. We feed alot of steamed rice to our chickens which is the grain my wife prefers to feed them.
  12. Yeah, my lao po mentioned the same thing to me yesterday when I was telling her about all the hoarding here in CA, and the resulting rationing. I am fortunate, we only live about one hour from the largest rice production area of California, surrounding and just to the north of SMF. When Lao Po arrives, we will go put on our round sun hats and high rubber boots and go out and 'pick' our own, fresh daily !!! Admire we eat the rice from California called U.S.No.1, it's very tasty I agree we eat California rice do not care for the others.
  13. Sounds like COSTCO shoppers are doing some hoarding. The Asian market we shopped last Sunday still had their full aisle stacked with bags of rice. The rice market makes sure it will go to where those who can afford it can buy it. Period. I called Costco they said they expect 240 bags of long grain rice at one of their stores we shop at today. We were buying 25#'s for $6.99 then it went up to $7.99 before the shortage, do not know what the price will be now?
  14. My wife and I returned from our trip to China March 14th a friend watched ours dogs and chickens. My wife likes to feed the chickens steamed rice from the rice cooker, my friend had told her he gave them some uncooked rice and they loved it, the first thing she said was uncooked rice gives them worms?
  15. I called another Costco store today and they are also out of rice, the lady I spoke with said it goes out as soon as it comes in.
  16. Last week we went to a Costco store and they were sold out of all types of rice.
  17. My wife and I will be returning to China for a visit March and April, she would like to start the paperwork to bring her son who is over 21 years old and not married to America. What is the first step, will we need to take some paperwork with us to have him sign and when we return submit to the USCIS? or can we start the process now?
  18. I have a question; a relative of my wife got married in China to a US citizen. He will not be returning to the US until April 15, 2008, can he file the paperwork at the Chinese Consulate or does he need to return and file with the USCIS?
  19. Congratulations!, We also got ours from the CSC, it took 7 days after receiving the notice to get my wife's 10 year green card , amazingly fast.
  20. I like my wife's Chinese name Shaoying and would not want an English name for her, my personal preference, family, her work and friends may have difficulty at first but they get use to it and do just fine. We pronounce it in Cantonese since Mandarin sounds a little different. I call her Ying though.
  21. If an American man marries a Chinese woman whose prior husband died what will she need to have for the USCIS paperwork. I know when I married my wife I needed the Chinese/American translation showing she was legally divorced is this still necessary when a spouse died?
  22.
