  1. Sorry you feel weird, that sounds like your problem. My wife is from China and she is like many others from there that don't delve into their personal life with strangers, it is not like she works in administration. When she asked me I first thought about posting here on COL and getting personal advice like I have many times in the past and everyone was very helpful, I hadn't thought about this until one of the post mentioned it. I shouldn't have to be explaining this to you or anyone else for that matter. It was a simple question the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. Good Luck sorry you feel WEIRD. Basically, you need to find a PRIVATE SCHOOL list and start calling each admissions office. I've never found any pertinent info on the interwebs about this. AWTY International School, in Houston TX handles the intake of the I-20 paperwork - I confirmed with the admissions counselor last week - it's NOT a problem as long as there is a guardian in place stateside. Back to the OP - I feel weird, as your wife works in a school system that already handles this stuff - surely you could have had her find out how 'that school' handles this stuff prior to posting?
  2. I had mention in my initial question that my wife would like to bring her nephew to the US in the future not as a 8 year old, I realize it does take time in most cases. My wife works at a private college which also has a high school and elementary school. They have many students from all different countries, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong to name a few, but none from China that I recall. That might be her best bet to check with the the school administration section to inquire how to go about bringing him to the US for some of his education. He is doing just find now in a private school in China but she would like to give him a chance at a college or university here in the US. If he could obtain a student visa earlier it probally would make his chances later on easier?
  3. My wife is currently sending her nephew to private school in China, he is doing very well in school and is at the top of his class. We would like to see him get all the opportunities to advance in life through an education, we don't want anything in return or expect it, what he does with his life after he finishes school is up to him, we just feel we can help him obtain his goals easier since he is very raised by a single parent who doesn't have the means to. My wife is a very giving person and never expects anything in return, her satisfaction is in helping others.
  4. My wife would like to bring her nephew to the US in the future to attend school he is still young 8 years old, is this possible? and what procedures would be necessary? what is the earliest age he could come if possibe? Thanks!
  5. My wife's sister had mentioned that a friend of hers in San Francisco petitioned for her brother to come to the US and that she was told that after July 1st they were not accepting any applications? has anyone else heard this rumor or could it be true? My wife petitioned for her brother in April and they cashed her check but hasn't heard anything to this effect. I know it will take many years before anything happens. It doesn't effect parents and daughters & sons from what I was told.
  6. My wife is now a US citizen with a US passport and she would like to now bring (petition) her son who is 30 and her brother who is 42 and married with a daughter to the US. Is there somewhere on CFL addressing the requirements (paperwork) necessary to send to the USCIS, I am completing the I-130 now for her son, making copies of his and my wife's birth certificate, his single certificate, their passports, I don't believe a G-325 is necessary? she has a SS# and on number 10 it ask for Alien Registration Number is this necessary? if anyone knows where this info is on CFL please let me know. Thanks Bill
  7. Here's our timeline, we are leaving for China March 31, 2009 my wife will be traveling with her new US passport.
  8. Wife received her certificate Thursday March 5th, 2 weeks after mailing it to the Pasport center, we were going to go to Social Security and change her status to citizen Friday, but her work had a surprise citizenship celebration for her, they all sang America the Beautiful, had a ice cream cake, and gave her a large card of the American flag signed fron members and students at the college she works at.
  9. We were told you needed to send the original and not a copy, though we made a copy of the certificate, we were told by the agent at the USPS passport counter that they should be returned separately.
  10. My wife sent her Citizenship certificate along with her passport application on February 19th the day of her Oath. She receive her passport February 27th (9 days later) she still hasn't received her certificate back yet, has anyone else experience this and what was the time frame? or is this normal?
  11. What recent Visa Services have you used to obtain your Chinese Visa for your US passport? it has been a year and so much has change I was hoping for some recommendations. We plan on traveling in April. My wife will soon receive her new US passport will she need to send her Chinese passort to the Visa Service when she obtains her visa for travel to China? I was told that they clip or punch a hole in it so it shows it is not valid? Thanks Bill
  12. My wife attended her Naturalization Oath Ceremony February 19th, it lasted from 8am to 11am, there was 899 new citizens and 29 no shows. Congresswoman Doris Matsui was the guest speaker. My wife received her certificate and then we went to the US Post Office and submitted her passport application which we sent expedited mail since we hope to travel to China the first week of April. It is a relief to finally reach this point, next we have to let the Social Security Administration that my wife is a US citizen. Thanks to all for your help in the immigration process and good luck to all of you still waiting.
  13. My wife goes to her citizenship ceremony February 19th after we pick up her certificate we will then make a black & white copy go to the post office with he application pay the fees and have it expedited. What does she need to take with her? we were going to have her certificate, DMV ID, 10 yr green card, two pasport pictures ? or do they take the green card at the ceremony, can anyone explain the process they went though is this going to be all we need?
  14. My wife and I plan to go back to China in April we have purchased Wisconsin ginseng (whole root) at Chinese markets and I was wondering if anyone has ever ordered it online before from a farm or dealer from Wisconsin? if you have was the price comparative to the local markets? do you have the web address? we would like to take it back as gifts to friends and family.
  15. Thanks! my wife receive her letter Saturday her appointment for the Oath Ceremony is February 19th @ 8:00 am
  16. I forgot to mention my wife took with here a small portfolio with paperwork which I thought might be needed? instead the interviewer gave her paperwork back saying it was not necessary when we submitted the N-400. She showed her greencrd, passport and DMV ID.
  17. Yes she passed with no problems answering everything the interviewer asked, the women who interviewed her told her good job gave her a hug and congradulated her saying she will be notified by mail and the date of the ceromony would be February 19th? next it is her passport.
  18. My wife's interview was on February 2nd, at 1:00pm, we arrived at 12:15pm turned her interview notice in and she was called at 12:45pm they ask her many questions from the N-400 also how did you meet your husband, where we worked, how many trips outside the US, she was asked to write The White House has a big tree and read I live in the state of California. The questions aked were, What do we celebrate on the 4th of July? Who is the Vice President of the United States? What is the Constitution? Why are there 100 Senators in the US Senate? What is the national anthem ofthe US?
  19. It does state on the front You MUST BRING the following to the interview: This Letter. Your Alien Registration Card Your passport and/any other document you used in conection with any entries into the U.S. If applying for Naturalization as a spouse of the United States Citizen; Your marriage certificate Your spouses birth certificate And it mentions to bring original documents associated with the N-400 application.
  20. Hi Mike I don't remember the form number they sent us. It tells when and where our appointment is, what to bring as far as documents but it seems to be a standard single page letter, it was a notice. I'll check it out this evening when I get home from work. All my wife received was her I-797C, Notice of Action, Request for Applicant to Appear for Naturalization Initial Interview. No N-659.
  21. Hi Mike I don't remember the form number they sent us. It tells when and where our appointment is, what to bring as far as documents but it seems to be a standard single page letter, it was a notice. I'll check it out this evening when I get home from work.
  22. My wife received her appointment letter the day after Christmas. Her appointment is for February 2nd at 1:00. They didn't ask her to bring any documents so the initial filing documents must have been sufficent? She has been listening to the CD Carl gave her that has helped a lot, do you know if that CD covers all the possible questions? She is reading and spelling at least 75 sentances, I am reviewing the N-400 with her so she fully understands it and the documents she will take to the interview. When you pass the interview how long before the oath and being able to get a U.S.Passport? we would like to go to China in April and my wife was hoping to have it by then if everything goes well. Otherwise could she still use her Chinese passport even if she became a citizen? without taking the oath or having a passport?
  23. Sorry can this be moved to process and removed from results, Thanks Bill
