1. Yep, I can attest to EMS's reliability. You can track your envelope/package too. I've used them numerous times and they're cheaper and just as reliable as FedEx & the other couriers. As for addresses, I just use Pin Yin and never had a problem. No JPEG, or fancy labeling necessary. Sending stuff to the US Consulate was also done with pinyin or English. No problems.
2. If your wife greets the VO in Chinese, they know what to do. But if they insist on asking in English, all she has to say, is: " I only speak a little English. Please interview me in Chinese/Cantonese" For the record, my wife and I situation is similar to you i.e. we speak mainly Chinese. And my wife was going interview in Chinese. But she reneged because she felt confident seeing a nice blond dude VO She passed...
3. The SO must bring the "kithchen sink" collected over the course of your relationship i.e. photos, calling card records, correspondence, etc. to the interview.
4. Great news, a few more steps and you're home free dude
5. In my book, better to overestimate than to underestimate when it comes to flying. If you underestimate, there goes your connection, and $200 flight. If you overestimate, at least, she'll have time to chill out at the gate and observe American culture for a few hours So go for 3 hours.
6. Congratulations and welcome to USA Newark airport rocks on a nice weekday. But the weekends can get very slow. I missed a connection once because of the long lines in customs and immigration.
7. It's not a bear....it's Pikachu from the Pokemon world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikachu The slap-happy Pikachu reminds me of Government agencies (GUZ,DOS, USCIS, etc) and the one getting slapped around.....you guessed it, all of us poor souls.
8. Thank you brothers and sisters at Candle and 001. My SO received her passport with Immigrant Visa this morning at Junyuan post office. She was interviewed by a blond dude on 2/27/2006. He greeted her in Chinese, but my wife replied in English. So the rest of the interview was done in English. Initially, she was not sure about conducting the interview in English. I passed on all your advice and told her she needs to practise through the list of possible interview questions. (I gave her both English & Chinese versions) She was asked: 1) What does your husband do? 2) Where is he working? 3) When were you married? 4) Show me some photos. Then the VO said, "Congratulations". She was surprised it was so short. She thought her "Kithchen Sink" was a bit too much to carry until she saw another girl in the consulate carrying twice as much It rained most days in Guangzhou, so if any of you are headed there, don't forget to bring an unbrella or rain coat. And a big plastic bag for the "Kitchen Sink" of documents & stuff. My timeline is: P3 to GUZ 9/14/05 Eligible for interview 9/23/05 Interview date set 1/13/06 P4 received 1/22/06 Interview 2/27/06 Immigrant Visa 3/1/06 She stayed one night with the Yang's above the consulate building. They're very nice and informative. Thanks again and God bless you all.
9. 10. If it's June, it's June... When you call DOS, remember to ask them to identify themselves and then log it down. I've gotten Jackie, Barbara, Lauren, Raquel, Jennifer and Sharon.
11. You know...whenever I hear my wife cry over the phone or see her cry on web camera, it makes me very very sorry that we are stuck on two opposite sides of the Earth. I get very depressed and unhappy and feel guilty for marrying and asking her to wait. She knows I love her and I know I love her but sometimes, I wish we were not married, so that there is no pain of waiting and waiting and waiting. But when I think about our life without being married to each other, then I realized our lives would be empty. So I just accept the long wait as a necessary step to get a US Visa. 193951 exactly. My husband said the same words to me that when he saw me or hear my cry, he felt very very sorry, unhappy, helpless, and guilty for let me waiting waiting for this visa. thanks guys here, I feel much better now. I know life is not so easy for everyone. Once we chose our life, we should stick to it. 193955 Whenever I told my wife I loved her, many times she will reply: Wo bu jue de... (I don't feel it) That was depressing to hear over the phone, but I know she is just telling me what she feels. To me, she very honest and also vulnerable so that's why I married her

13. We did this but it wasn't easy. We wanted to transfer money to China ahead of our trip there this year when we plan to buy a "house" ( for everyones general info I have finally figured out this "house" thing. In China a house is an apartment and a villa is a house). My wife has a friend who works in the Bank of China in her hometown in Hunan. She was able to open an account there by sending copies of her ID card. Then we wire transfered the money from our bank. But they will not change the money from $ to RMB without you being there to do it. So my wife's father had to go the bank and they let him make the change. He also had to go back many times because they limit how much you can change at one time. .. Just our experience... Good Luck 193783 What was the exchange rate given to you for the conversion from US$ to RMB at the Bank of China?
14. Congrats on getting an interview date. It's just a bit far off in the Summer when airfare is expensive....but that's GUZ for you
15. You get it after you are approved for a I-485 or after you receive a Green Card from the CR-1 or similar immigrant visa process. It normally starts with A XXX-XXX-XXX
16. I've been down the RFE trail... It's going to take at least 1 month after you send your reply before they take a look at your file again because they send all files to an offsite storage facility. So hurry up and reply and stop complaining !
17. Don't sign any form unless you're an immigration attorney.
18. Congrats on P4!! All US citizens must file a tax return....irregardless of where you reside or whether you are earning an income in USA. As for proof of ability to communicate, you should make a VHS tape (in NTSC system) recording of you and your wife chatting in Chinese. About 5-10 minutes long. Good luck!
19. From what you wrote, the USCIS sent you a RFE and the 12 weeks to respond to the RFE has lapsed. If you need more info, please check out: http://tinyurl.com/f665x I assume your I-485 was filed at Vermont? So go through the Vermont thread for I-485 issues and search for denied or motion to deny or NOID. If you need legal assistance, call Sharryn Ross in Boston, she did 2 of my friends' Green Card (UK & China) and she is very competent: http://www.bostonimmigrationattorney.com/staff.html
20. That's a really cool text to speech website. We ought to place it in CFL links 185617 That link isn't working. Fix it fast, I'm burning with curiosity. 185634 Chill dude, here 'tis: https://www.research.microsoft.com/speech/tts.asp.
21. I'll bet that the more prints they take, means they can report that productivity is up at the DHS -- meaning they're doing a great job protecting the good citizens of USA.
22. Then add one month for them to process your reply to the RFE So each time you get an RFE, expect to lose about one month of processing time.
23. Dude, You might get it by June, but if not, then Elf enters USA alone. It's as simple as that... because without a job, things are going to get expensive when Elf comes over
24. Very useful info dude, thank you and best to y'all
