  1. i sometimes wonder if the VO has already made up his mind even before the interview has started. its not good for people to have that much power
  2. does she have a drivers lic? i think my wife showed her social and her DL
  3. i think its just good to have them with you. but i also think you better hope you dont have to get to the point that you need to show them. because by that time you have doubt going on in the VO's mind.
  4. i exported out all my msn chats into excel... made the font size like 4 i think it was, barely able to read it.... but if you looked at it you were able to see exactly what it said. she brought a huge binder with them all to her interview. i thin k it was like 2 full reams. part of our kitchen sink. better to be safe than sorry our thoughts were.
  5. every state is gonna differ.... we had issues until she had her social.
  6. i think that if it was not for Oliver Stone the movie would have never made it. put his name on the cover and you got a hit. i own the movie and have watched twice. depressing. i believe there are so many people in China your going to have all sorts of stories like that.... some were not so lucky... others lived better. some were in the perfect position after the cultural revolution was over with to step right into something and step right up the ladder to make some decent money. some were not.....
  7. im really liking the MAC one thing i dont like is the mouse just cant do as much with the one button.... im going to end up learning alot more macros
  8. but I think he wants it to SHOW as pinyin, and not be converted to Chinese characters. yes exactly... i need 3 ways to type simplified pinyin english not including katakana and hiragana for wo tai tai
  9. i figured out part of the install... its pretty cool how its done. i still need a program to type my pinyin in
  10. ahhh...yes the encoding you can just right click and be sure to select chinese simplified i think....
  11. Yes, got it, thanks Bill. Looks like you're copying and pasting text into this winwow that contains the tones. Many of them are showing up as "boxes" rather than characters. some of them show as boxes? thats interesting.... i have a program that i use to type pinyin it runs along side of the IME you type the word and put the proper tone 1, 2, 3 or 4 xi¨¤ng zh¨¨ g¨¨ is everything coming out like boxes?
  12. what doesnt show up which way? the pinyin?
  13. So Bill, I've been taking Chinese class two times a week in 1 1/2 hour sessions. I emphatically requested at least right now, not to be presented the challenge of learning Chinese characters. Are you learning the characters also? My hat is off to you if so. My classes have been strictly focused on learning the pinyin and dialogs associated with many everyday events, like: Greetings and introductions Ordering in a restaurant Shopping and barganing Asking directions (like what for? I wouldn't get it anyway...LOL) Taking a taxi or bus Time, date and appointment... ..and a few others... I continue to find the language intimidating, though I am increasing my vocabulary. Now, I realize how difficult it is for foreigners in the US when they are asked to repeat what they say over and over again. Like most everyone, I've found the tones the most challenging. I did find a little shortcut around that however, and that's simply not to speak slowly. The more slowly you speak the more noticable that you've got the tone wrong. Speaking quickly covers a multitude of sins. very minimal Hanzi as of yet, it is recomended by my wife that i should go with p¨©ny¨©n first. w¨¯ k¨§ y¨« xi¨§ y¨© di¨£n xi¨¤ng 1-10 hu¨° zh¨§ Äã½ÐʲôÃû×Ö I'm trying to break down what it is you wrote here Bill. I understand, ni jiao sheme ming zi, but the first part? w¨¯ .. i k¨§ y¨«... can xi¨§... write y¨© di¨£n... a little xi¨¤ng... like or for instance
  14. i need to type them, to be able to switch back and forth from Chinese to Japanese to Romanization.
  15. im hooking up the imac for a kitchen computer and i need some direction on installing chinese fonts
  16. Don, I understand your feelings. I have felt the same in the past, maybe even sometimes now. But my feelings are that I know why I'm there and it is to be fed the Word. Does one have to go to church to be a Christian? No! I would also say a Christian is not perfect, never will be perfect... I know I'm not,.. far from it. I make mistakes everyday of my life. But I would also say that because of my faith in God, I'm always trying to be a better Christian.... it is not easy. If the church was for people without sin,....I'm afraid it would be an empty building.... without a preacher. As Jesus said to an angry crowd..."he who is without sin, let them cast the 1st stone"..... it is my understanding the crowd disbursed. well said !! my wife came over from China believing in one supreme God. we just recently found a decent church that we feel comfortable in with great music and decent messages. she really enjoys it, i try not to peek at her too often... im so proud of her.

  18. As the father of a daughter having significant learning disabilities, this indeed is a topic that I am sensitive. While the US opened many doors to the "disabled" (a term often used in the US), there are many closed doors to them. It's interesting that you would characterize such an awesome event as "just a show". Are you suggesting that those who organized this event in China did this for show only? Through the years, I attended several events for the learning disabled, in which my now grown daughter attended. Nearly every one of these events was attended almost exclusively by family members. You would have a tough time finding someone who took time out of their day to show up and watch. Is it any different anywhere else? While you may find more access ramps and parking in the US, these people are forgotten in society. I noticed something on the news here in China this morning, that makes me take heart however. There are thousands of people that could not even get close to getting a ticket to the now complete Olympics of the normal people. These people are now attending these events. There is just something that happens inside a person that watches someone get a victory for just completing something that you and I could do with our eyes closed, or with little effort. Personally, I'm inspired by this event. Of course, I'm often accused by a few members on this site as not seeing the real picture of China while living here. I can tell you, that my daughter is happy that her father believes in her, and the millions in the world like her. But then again, I'm just one person. shu¨ de h¨¦n h¨£o w¨¯ de p¨¦ng y¨®u
