  1. FAQ TOP 10 suggestion.... Subjects that have been beaten to death.. You don't want too long a FAQ,,so we might want to keep the topic list to a reasonable length..IMHO.. The top 10 titles below might be a bit humourous, but the contents would be serious... 10/ AOS, EAD and AP filing for dummies 9/ K visa petition filing for dummies & BCIS fillable forms 8/ BCIS / Consulate contact info and wait times...Read and weep kid. 7/ Calling to/ from China.. When AT&T just won't do. 6/ Sending money to China when Western Union just won't do 5/ Getting SS and Driver license . The jungle explained. 4/ Vaccinations and medical exam in the U.S and/or China. 3/ P3-P4 and Consulate interview : Do's and Dont's 2/ Cheap airlines tickets to/ from China - Decent hotels 1/ China baby.. what to do... ( ahem..after he/she's born that is ) I can fill that out later with good links I have been colecting and using since the BH days And on a lighter note.. Optional...:-) - Most pointless and wacky threads with nothing to do whatsoever with immigration - Mick's November 2003 CDL rambla-thon... - The Black Hole gang.. The Good, the Bad and the real Ugly - Life Insurance & Taxi in China - Cleaning the toilet: A-Z guide - BCIS most wanted. - Top 10's Top 10
  2. self-explanatory link.. Shows all kind of ways greenbacks can change hands.. Legally Very informative. http://www.international-money-transfer-co....info/index.htm Send money via Bank of China NY for $ 10 or 20 fee ( regardless of amount ) . You don't have to be a BOC customer. If the recipient lives in China, you're in. Costs 10 bucks by mail transfer / 20 by wire . Maximum is $2999 / day .... That should be enough, right ? :-) http://www.bocusa.com/bocny/html/account_form.html
  3. there has been a lot of talks here about sending / using money in China.. ATM cards, Wire transfer, Western Union.. blah blah blah Has anyone here ever used paypal.com ? It lists China as a participating country.... And the fees are a heck of a lot less. Practically nothing to receive and zilch to send from a US account Check it out. I don't see the downside right now
  4. what's the big deal about this? If you know a person's last name and the county they live in ( if they are homeowner ) , or just an address in that county , go to the county's property appraiser website.. and you'll know everything.. This is public records. Chill out.
  5. yeah... right after the 5 years or so it would take to win a class suit, which you would not. Come on Ray. Your wife is not being "detained" . Neither was my fiancee, as long as ,I too ,had to wait and hated the system as much as you do. We chose to marry a foreigner. Nobody forced us. Certainly not BCIS. Now we have to play by their rules.. Unfair ? Certainly.. Ridiculous wait ? You betcha.... But this is not "detention".
  6. I spent thanksgiving in 2000 I think eating Kangaroo steak in Sydney... No joke.... Wasn't bad..
  7. that would be GZ consul general, unless she is visa chief resident for the consular section of Beijing embassy.. In which case, the ambassador would be the big cheese. By hey.. how would I know ? Gov't food chain can be confusing
  8. You can't look it up at dhl.com until someone tells you the airway bill number; ask the sender.
  9. Yes. If you tell us what it refers to and its context Looks to me like you are talking about an INA section and an eligible/ ineligibility matter
  10. We'll rent a car in Hobart, Tasmania and drive around the island.. You think I can let Yuhui drive on the LEFT side with her 7 month old driver license ?? Naaah...... Yes. South Beach. Riiight. I'll tell her to pack the sexy bikini.... Are you on drugs or somethin' ?? Want a map of Ohio ??
  11. That's it ! All booked up. We're going for some fun 20 January. First to China for a week ( I work there and Korea and Taiwan, she plays with her family :-) ) , then Hong-Kong ( strictly fun ) ... then Sydney and Tasmania in Australia ( official belated honeymoon! It was either Kansas or Australia.. It was a difficult decision..LOL ) . Heard it's a great island to cruise around .I can't wait. We'll head home Feb 11. Won't cost us a dime either ticket-wise. My ticket is paid by the company. Yuhui's is on freebees from UA and Cathay all the way and back from Florida. I even had a friend of mine in Sydney " invite " her to come, for good measure on her Aussie visa app. They better not turn her down, or I'm done with Kangaroos steaks...... Funny thing is that while planning that stuff, I checked my AA account , not used in some times, and found out I had miles there, ready to expire soon.. So Yuhui is going this Saturday to Cincinnati to see her Chinese g/f for a few days and O/D on 150 mph Chinese.. The house is mine till Thanksgiving kids ! Let's party !!!!!!!
  12. Well LA Cajun is different... and funny as hell too... No offense. Ditto with Quebec. OK, I'll stop being a purist.
  13. CONGRATS ! 8 months wait for a 5 mns interview / decision.... Ponder this . That's 69,120 minutes wait per minute of interview..
  14. just white it out and correct it. No big deal. just to be safe, advise your sponsor in writing that you made the correction, so nobody can accuse you of altering anything on your own
  15. Thank God, they didn't ask for yours, or the poor thing would still be stuck 12 times zones away... !
  16. Jerry.. Jerry.. tssss... And I thought I was the most computer illiterate around here.. Thanks ! I feel better ! Just kidding..
  17. A funny thing happened today.. I was going to/from work listening to a chinese tape. Arrived home. Yuhui is trying to learn French, so she went to the library and picked up a CD. So far so good ( chuckling ) As I entered, I hear the CD on the stereo.. I say.. what do you do hon ? She goes.. Learning French.. I said.. Good for you ! .. then I started paying attention to the CD being played, caught some french words here and there... I couldn't understand a whole sentence ! LOL I said to myself.. WT* Hmm, something's rotten in Denmark! I told her.. Sweetie, this is not French...Sounds Haitian to me... I went to pull out the CD and sure enough... written on it... HAITIAN CREOLE ( Haiti dialect derived from French .. I get a kick out of hearing it ).... I was laughing so hard.... Poor thing... To her defense, the CD jacket said "LEARN FRENCH " ( From pimsleur btw ! ) , not HAITIAN CREOLE version .... Back to the library I suppose... It was funny seeing her face, hmmm,,, I don't remember hearing on that tape those French words Eric taught me.....
  18. You think LA is bad, you oughta try Atlanta. that'll teach you to leave in the middle of the boonies ! Just kidding Mick.. We're barely 12 months ahead of you... No worries.. GC is not that crucial I think.. they're in status.. Legit.
  19. Welcome to the club ! Hang in there.. Fasten seat belts. No smoking please.
  20. Hi Guys We booked tickets ! Wooho !!!! Yuhui and I are leaving for HK Jan 20 from MIA-LAX.. Then, she goes up North in China, and I go work in Korea, Taiwan and good'ol Guangzhou..aah.. memories... We reunite a week later, again in HK, so I can show her da town, then off together for a well deserved , and belated I might add, 7 days honeymon to Sydney, Australia. :D I know that Chinese can stay up to 7 days in HK with an ongoing ticket to a third country, say Australia, as she will Jan 29. Question is : Coming first into HKG from LAX, then to China, I think she can stay a few days in HK as well, even though her next flight is to Mainland China. Am I correct or loopy on city bus fumes ? Do I make myself clear ? China Houston consulate says she can.. then again, they say it in Chinese In the mean time, we have 7 ( yes, seven ) french family members coming in Dec 21 for Xmas / New Year.... till Jan 4..... I will have to talk to my dive gear about making room for them.. Yuhui will have to put up with mother in law till the 13th, unless Mom can get to fly to Venezuela to see my older brother in between.... What a girll... ( yuhui that is ! ) Unfortunately, my other sweetie, Madison, my daughter, won't be able to come to the U.S this time ,, But Yuhui and I plan to take her to Greece next summer.. As you can see, this family is very international Gotta keep track of needed visas and all.. Hard enuff with a Chinese, ain't it ? Just kidding honey-bunny
  21. Mick, what are the problems and issues if it does take that long? Just asking, because I really don't know. She is already here, is she not? So it's not like the K1 wait? Also I'm thinking we will just apply in person, maybe that will solve a lot of "where do we file... ." issues. The only issue I really can see is applying for visas to other countries when travelling ( after AP but before GC issued ) . Much easier to show a green card, resident of the U.S to say the embassy of Australia, than the grocery receipt and AP. It's just a pain.
  22. yes, if you have EAD.. Or Green card No if you do not hold either.
  23. 10/ We like suspense at BCIS ! What's the matter fellow? Don't you ? 9/ NVC screwed up again.. Budget cuts.. All petitions to go cargo ship via Anchorage as of 10/1/03 8/ P3 ? P4 ? We hate acronyms.. Get us confused. 7/ DHL promised us to clean up their act. No longer using Africa flight connections 6/ Chinese customs not to read every single page on petitions.. 5/ Excel spread sheet got wiped out by Blaster. We nailed the kid though. 4/ Thank God, we haven't seen those Mick/ Owen bozzos for a while.. We can get some work done now. 3/ After all, what's a few more months in the Grand Scheme of Life ? 2/ We miss the Black Hole gang harrasment ! 1/ X-mas's coming... Can I read bonus if we get things done ?? Just on the light side kids.. . just on the light side...
  24. Call 1/ Your local office 2/ Your regional service center ( i.e NSC ) 3/ BCIS nationwide 800 number Go by what the majority says :-) I'm not kidding..Do call ALL 3
