my first day impressions of USA

Recommended Posts

Hi, all:

Yesterday afternoon I landed on the airport of United States of America after so many stresses caused by the visa process!! Now there have been 12 hours passed and my feeling is nothing but great.

The funny thing is before I took the plane from CHina Airline, I had thought the different feeling of America would be felt as soon as I got on the airplane, but this part was opposite to my expectation because the whole plane was filled with 90% Chinese people the movie is with Chinese language which made me feel that I was still flying inside China until I saw some American guards in the airport.

Before I tell you what makes me feel great of my first day in America, I would like to tell you another funny feeling. When the airplane was about to land, because the whole plane gave us still a feeling of being in China and the construction of the airport is velry similar with the Beijing airport, so me and two of my neightbour grandmas all felt that we were about to land in Beijing. :)

Anyway, as soon as I stepped on the land of America, I feel just great and right. Here is the list of my first impressions all begun with the sentence head of "I like......" and "very much"

1, Bush's picture is hang up noticeably in the airport which reminds everyone of the country's president.

2, customs in the airport are seriously working but they are not rude and arrogant, some of them would even smile at me which was very friendly!

3,there are people in the airport that would come up to those who desperatly need help. In the office where I was waiting for the visa to be reviewed, I saw there was airport worker helping disables. Btw, I was not asked any questions by the officer. The only word she said to me was "bye bye" and then handed the passport to me. B)

And when I could not move my big bags, again, there was an airport worker coming up to me. No matter whether Dave later gave him the tips, I like the ideal of this behaviour is to help people when they are in need but not to ignore and feel indifferent.

Then Dave picked me up and started the long driving on the 95 highway, and the amazing first scene view started to be shown.

4 There are so many trees along the road. So many!!! I have never seen so many trees on express way. Trees are green and make everywhere seems so alive and beautiful!! Then Dave told me it was called parkway, I think the name is very suitable. :o

5,The lakes are so beautiful that can take your breath. The rivers seem still, every water line is still, together with seemingly still boats in the river, composing such a beautiful painting!

6, All the bridges are different!!!

7, Houses are very beautiful and cute, and they are mostly different. Difference is great and creative!

8 Even the decoration along the express way is also creative!

9 The Mcdonald buildings here are so cute. They are small and very pretty! We had a snack when we passed one Mcdonald, which I thought I would just like to feel the real air of people of America. Still, they are friendly, they would greet you and smile at you:) The ice cream is bigger than in China. The hamburger Dave ordered which was so small. Hahaha! The coffee tastes real coffee even in Mcdonald.

10, All the songs on the radio of Dave's car are beautiful!

11, People drive very fast but they are all driving very orderly.

12, Everywhere is very clean.

13, There is a fountain behind the trees on a small river. In China, the city planner never think about the scene behind people's eyes.

14, In our apartment, Dave told me I can drink the water from the sink. How funny! Water from the bathroom can be drunk! I tried it. It taste good.

I need to tell my Mom about this which will surely shock her.

15, Gizmo is so strong. He looks like a little dog.Everywhere on his body is muscly. He looks more friendly than on picture. When I was unpacking some of my clothes and made the pile of the clothes, Gizmo would casually open his four legs and lie into my pile of clothes, he must have been spoiled by Dave. :P

These are only what I see and feel on my first day: America is beautifuland people are friendly.

Sarah, a wonderful story. Welcome to America. You will be happy in Connecticut and with Dave. If you get a chance to go to the reunion in New London, say hello to Alan and Kate for me. I am waiting for my love to get here from Nanning and will try to make the reunion next year.

Welcome home Sarah. It is great to have you here and I enjoyed reading your first impressions of America. It is so great to see our country through other eyes. I wish you and Dave much happiness together. You both deserve it. As to Bush's picture, hopefully those can be removed in 2004. :D

As to Gizmo, since he is such a big cat, there should be enough hair for both of us. When is the shaving going to take place? :)

Hi, buddies:

Dave and I are very happy now, and very busy also-----busy to eat! :o Today we had meals with his friend's and his parents , one meal after another, the same as tomorrow and next week. The food is so delicious and the people are so nice that you just can't help laughing and eating a lot!! I'm afraid next year when my mother sees me, I will have to sit in two chairs. B)

Dave is a fast driver, at first when he drove, I just held tightly the handle above the door. But now I have been used to it and find it's just a normal way of driving in America.

Today's conclusion---- American food is very delicious!

Gizmo is a good boy too!

Thank you for writing your impressions, that was enjoyable and I am glad that you can really appreciate the beauty. It is nice that your first ride was on a parkway along the river. Most people never think about the enjoyment of drinking fresh clean water, good observation. I am happy for you and Dave.

Thanks R2D2, Mick, Don, Argyle, Brynqunying, Roberts and Blsqueaky, These days Dave and I have visited his families and his friends. I feel very comfortable here and feel always very happy. I have light jet lag. Even though every day morning I would wake up at 3 o'clock and then hardly to go back to sleep, in daytime I can still handle it especially after some short naps. Today when we went to Dave's Mom's house to, he stopped by Cove river, where I could really feel and touch the water for a while.:D) I sat on the dock and put my feet into the water, feeling the sunshine and the little shaking of the dock, closing my eyes, then I felt I was then flowing. Its a wonderful feeling! I enjoy here. :D

I wish you guys all good luck and beautiful future. Blsqueaky, your wife is very nice, we had a good time together. I wish your process will be smooth. After I helped her to sign in here, I didn't see her often online. Please say hello to her when you call her. Mick, Gizmo is very lazy and too friendly to me. Everyday he always turns around me, licking me, touching me or climbing up into my arms. He is so big and heavy that sometimes I feel I can not handle him. Dave told me to be harder to him. I''m just afraid to hurt him. He also has nice white hair on his stomack, do you want that?:D

Sarah, welcome to the US.. Lili and I really enjoyed meeting you and all the others who showed up for the brunch organized by PeiPie in New London, CT today, everything was great.

Lili has said several times she is also amazed by all the trees along the highways in the US. Our entire country is covered with trees. Most of us went to the Mohegan Sun Casino, after brunch and we all had a great time maybe next time you and Dave can join us.

Hello Sarah, I talked to her, and I think that because her english is not that great, this is why she does not sign in that much. I think that she needs someone like you to email her and let her know that everyone here will help again. She is just so darn independent, plus also remember that in China, not like the states here, they pay for the internet by the minute, not like us by the month.

But again Sarah, please feel free to email her. I know that she would love to hear from you again.

Thanks
