  1. Hi Tony, These are fairly young blues, so they are not so oily. I like to ccok them with Dijon mustard and bread crumbs on high heat - 450 in the oven or even better on the grill. Wrap tight in tin foil - delicious! Dave
  2. Really? What if his hair becomes blue ? Will you accept that? Will that be cool? Sarah
  3. Last weekend, Dave and I spent my first Labour Day together with his family in Cape Cod. Cape Cod is a very beautiful and fun place. We luckily got swimming there where the water used to be very cold but not that cold on that day. On the day when we decided to leave in the afternoon, his mother and two other women and I went shopping in a mall. Dave went fishing. He loves fishing the same as I love shopping. I got impressed by lots of interesting stuff and good prices in that mall. Dave got bumped by numberless blue fish. I didn't see his hero action of catching those blue fish , but when our shopping group went back, he was standing among several shining and still breathing blue fish, among which four of them were clued together by a tree stick. He cought 8 blue fish, each one weighing about 4-5 or even more pounds. "Oola! We have the freshest Cape Cod fish to enjoy for at least a week!"That was what I was thinking at that moment. In the evening, we triumphantly drove back with tons of heavy blue fish in the cooler on our back seat. I love these blue fish but I love the guy who cought them better. Sarah
  4. I have never tried that, because I dont have such disease. But I heard that they were very old and good Chinese medicine Sarah
  5. By the way, about the stomach, I dont think our stomach would be as fragile as the glass, hehe. But I think the habit of eating and drinking is a main point to make people feel different. In America, people always drink cold soda or beer. I did that in China too. But my Mom would never drink those cold stuff. She had the same saying as stomach or etc. But I never felt sick when I did that. So I think it's a kind of habit thing. Sarah
  6. Hi, Tim: Yes, the internal heat is exactly what I mentioned of the energy. Chinese medicine thinks that swollen throat or similar diseases are caused by this heat. SO the medicine mainly lead people to push down that heat. Western medicine thinks that is because a kind of bacteria, so anti-bioctic medicine would be used to cure it. Actually when people's body get too much heat, then the bacteria would be grown, the theory is the same. But Chinese medicine points to adjust your body system. Western medicine points to killing the bacteria. As I said, I hope this can help many chinese wives not to be too panic when they face western medicines. Also helps foreigners like you in CHina wouldn't be in same circumstances too. Also, as Owen said, some Chinese medicine has really better function than western ones. It's slow but deeper. Well, at the same time, western medicine to cure some disease is stronger, faster, but not so deep. Best wishes to everyone's health. Sarah
  7. I haven't heard about that until now. But I think as this is a big thing, there must be a big group of people in the official office worrying for us, and by then we should be told or required to do something. I guess so. Any other ideas? Sarah
  8. Hi, Mick, gizmo this morning greets to you :"Miao-miao, miao-miao, nihao, nihao! " Sarah Miao miao to Gizmo the Mao! Ni Hao Oops, Mick, Giamo wants to know the "Mao" is first or second tone? The two meanings are very different. The first tone means "cat", the second tone means "hair". Oh, boy.
  9. Gizmo was scared and ran to hide under the table, saying with trembling that "Bu Yao, Bu Yao." Sarah
  10. Yes, number is condidered very important to decide luck in China. Like your house's number on the street or the floor's number where you live, nobody wants to choose the number ended with "4" because it rhymes the same as "death". When in big ceremony or festivals, people choose things in double number except 4. It may seem a little bit superstitious to some people. But according to the Chinese traditional culture"Feng Shui", the number or the position of furnitures can decide people's luck. I'm not an expert on it and I'm not very interested in it, but I think there is some saying convincible and also if possible to let some numbers make people feel good should not be a bad thing. Sarah
  11. That sounds interesting. I haven't been to a western doctor and haven't seen any other western medicine except Aspirin, which is the only one available at home now. But I think there is some western medicine having the same function as some Chinese medicine but with different saying and introduction. Right now I have no idea whether the western medicine in China are similar with those in America. For example, when we have some white bulbs in our mouth, the Chinese medicine would mean to say that is because you have too much energy in your body and then the medicine also explains in that way, while the western medicine will directly point that people should use antibiotical medicine to cure these symptom. This information is hard to tell at first. But I hope this information can help some CHinese wives to know some information to protect their health. Sarah
  12. I woud let sleeping dogs lie. First, I think they will always recognise our ID cards are from their government not from other countries, even when we go back our cards are old. Second, no matter what we do here, I think they will all require the ID cards to be collected back in CHina to process it. I guess they will do the same thing when one day Chinese people like us go back to CHina. I would rather do it then than now, which is more complicated. Sarah
  13. Nescafe Gold is much better than other, however, if I remember well, the price is about double of others. I'm a big milk drinker. I haven't felt much difference between Chinese milk and American milk, at least the milk in my home city. Different cities are very different in China. Because the milk is not suitably long time stored food, usually each city has their own dairy products especially milk. Here in America, I taste the full fat milk is the same as the milk in my home city but the no or little fat milk is very different which I feel that it is healthier than the full fat one but less delicious than the full fat one. In my city, we could also find so many different brands of milk, some of them would taste terrible. The point is people have to find out the good one. By the way, there is one brand almost most of big cities having such brand, the name is "meng niu", which is not so watery as other kinds. In Beijing and my city, I saw it and drank it. I'm not sure whether Shang Hai has it. That one tastes right. Maybe you guys can try it, see whether you like it or not. Sarah Anyway,
  14. Two years ago, this has started. The government started to collect information of every person. I heard that for a single person, the new ID card would not change a lot for the daily life. But this new card will unite many other kinds of identification cards which shall be more orderly for the governement to recognise and track each person. Sarah
