Why do they call it Forrbiden?

Recommended Posts

The Forbidden City, as the residence of the terrestrial emperor, was its earthly counterpart. Jin, or "Forbidden", referred to the fact that no-one could enter or leave the palace without the emperor's permission. Cheng means a walled city.

The Forbidden City was so named this because, for more than five hundred years, it was totally off limits to all except the rulers of China and their servants. It was the home to two dynasties of Emperors, the Ming and the Qing who strayed from the sanctuary of the city only if they absolutely had to.

An interesting one: Forbidden City Starbucks closes (I remembered seeing that Starbucks and thought isn't anything sacred?)

Since Candle crashed this morning my answer went poof. I was quoting Wikipedia too.

Here is a picture of me visiting Starbucks inside the Forbidden City in 2005.

After the Starbucks store inside the Forbidden city closed it moved outside the Forbidden City.
