chilton747
I think it is because only a certain few were allowed to go there. Others were forbidden. Link to comment
dnoblett
The Forbidden City, as the residence of the terrestrial emperor, was its earthly counterpart. Jin, or "Forbidden", referred to the fact that no-one could enter or leave the palace without the emperor's permission. Cheng means a walled city. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbidden_City The Forbidden City was so named this because, for more than five hundred years, it was totally off limits to all except the rulers of China and their servants. It was the home to two dynasties of Emperors, the Ming and the Qing who strayed from the sanctuary of the city only if they absolutely had to. http://www.aboutmytravel.com/main.php3?act...e&artid=161 An interesting one: Forbidden City Starbucks closes (I remembered seeing that Starbucks and thought isn't anything sacred?) Here is a picture of me visiting Starbucks inside the Forbidden City in 2005.http://i19.tinypic.com/53z5wte.jpg After the Starbucks store inside the Forbidden city closed it moved outside the Forbidden City. NewDay2006
Nothing much to see in the forbidden city.... but I guess the fact it was there for ages makes it very interesting. Also having concubines in the wings just waiting was something of... huh, interest Link to comment
