My SO interview was on May 31, I was not present with my SO in Guangzhou for the interview, since my daughter had her graduation at the same time as my SO interview. When we talked about me being there my SO was very understanding that I should go to my daughter’s graduation. I felt my SO was very confident and determined to handle the interview in her way. My SO stayed in the hotel above the Consulate. I would recommend this to any one going to Guangzhou for the interview . The hotel manager was Mr. Wang Jiahua and he was of great assistance to my SO. My SO told me that the day of the interview on May 31, all 7 Chinese SO’s that were staying al the hotel had received their Visa the same as her!!

 

It was around 9:00 a.m. when my SO was called to the interview window. She approached the interview window with her 15-year-old son at her side. He knows a little English, better than my SO. While my SO knows limited English, she does not “hear” it good at all. She said the interview was maybe 10 minutes in length. As the interview started, it appears the Consulate Officer ’s demeanor had a calming affect on her, since the officer was very friendly and nice. We were prepared for the worst type of interviewer just in case, but no need since she felt very at ease with the consulate officer right from the beginning. She said "he smiled a lot."

 

For the interview, my SO had all the overcome evidence taken from the CFL FAQ. We felt we were ready for any blue slip. I had told her that if she received a blue slip to to window 30 or asked to speak to a Consulate person to explain why the blue slip. I told her not to leave the building unless she did this. We had prepared plastic envelopes with overcome evidence for emails, phone records, chat logs, telephone, etc. In each plastic envelope I inserted a “small picture” of what it contained; for example, for telephone records I inserted a picture of a phone, for airline tickets I inserted a picture of an airplane. I did this to assist my SO to quickly find and give to the Consulate officer the records if they should ask. However, the way it turned out he did not ask for any additional records not even my I 134! It appears all the questions were a result of the Consulate officer previously reviewing my K-1 (I-129 F) file. My SO said the Consulate had already many documents at the window that had been pulled from (she thinks) my K-1 (I -129 F ) File.

 

After greeting each other at the interview window the consulate officer spoke in Chinese to my SO. So the interview begin in Chinese, she said there was very little need for her to speak English. She said that what he asked about was not so much what supporting evidence she had with her, but the following 4 questions:

 

1. Question: What work did you finance do for many years?

 

SO Answer: He worked in the housing area many years

 

Reply: yes good, good

( comments: I had in my “how we met letter” in the K-1 application that I had worked over 30 years in the housing industry, so I know they read the letter before the interview, perhaps this question was an attempt to know how well my SO knows me by knowing what line of work I did

 

2. Qustion: How Many times has he been to China? (this was asked as he was looking at pictures already in the K-1 application, he was commenting how nice the pictures were so my SO volunteered others of the second trip I took , but again he did not ask to see any.

 

SO Answer in English : He came in February 2005 and Sept 2005

 

Reply: After viewing the pictures was “Nice very Nice” (We had prepared to show the Consulate pictures of my two trips to China of us together and with her family, the pictures he was reviewing were in my K-1 application I had sent 36 when I first went to China to meet my SO and our time together

 

3. Question: After seeing phone records in the K-1 File, he asked, “How do you communicate on the phone”? Does You Fiancé speak any Chinese?

 

SO answer: Oh, he (meaning me) speaks a little Chinese (very little) and I speak a little English, so we talk on the phone using little English and little Chinese, we use translations, etc. He was satisfied with the answer and did not ask for any additional relationship records.

 

Reply : good good

 

We were ready to present if needed a VHS of me and my SO communicating on tape. I made the tape on my second trip to China. I had put in the “how we met Letter” for the initial I 129 F file that I took some basic Chinese lessons in order to communicate better with my SO. I had purposely inserted this comment to avoid the doubt if we could communicate after reading on CFL the VHS tapes that were needed for overcome. But again he did not ask for any VHS tape, etc.

 

4. Question Directed to SO son: Can you speak English,

 

Son reply: Yes a little

 

We had inserted in the “how we met letter” a letter from my SO private lesson teacher that my SO was studying some English , but was not fluent, but again the Consulate did not ask for any overcome evidence. My SO made it a point to at least answer what questions she could in some English . She was able to say “how are you , have a nice day” " he came in September and February" On one question my SO said she did not hear the question good but her son next to her translated the question for his mother so he was helpful in interpreting the English when the Consulate did ask something in English. My SO would than answer in either Chinese or English. She told me she did have trouble “hearing” the English.

 

My observations : It appeared to me that the Consulate no doubt reviews the K-1 application before the interview. I feel after their after their review of the file it is determined what direction the interview will take and what questions will be asked. I had prepared the I 129F application with “file tabs” to help identify and find the documents. I also made a cover letter explaining how the application was organized. I prepared an “Exhibit List" as a map of what each record was and where to find it in my K-1 application. I really feel this helped the Consulate to get an overview of my application and thus is able to get a better picture of how my SO and myself met, communicated , our background and had an ongoing relationship , ,etc. I know they read my letter in the K-1 application of how we met, since his questions appeared to reflect this and I feel he wanted to see if my SO knew things about me that I had written to them. In other words, does my SO really know me? I really did not hold anything back from my SO about myself good and bad, since I wanted her to know what was in the application. Over these many months before the interview I constantly told my SO what was in the application documents. We practiced the 95 questions found here on CFL . As I said before the Consulate officer did not asked to see additional photos, I 134, income, emails, chats, telephone records. In the end the interviewer said “Your approved !!!!!!!!! My advice to others is to prepare , follow the advice of this website and trust you SO to do things sometimes the way she wants
