  1. What information is on the GC other than those shown on the front of GC? I mean if there is any hidden info like address. Thanks.
  2. Thank you all for your replies and precious advices.
  3. That's fast. Good for you. Congratulations!
  4. Could anyone please answer my question: Should we write to USCIS to correct the address?
  5. Tweety, Thank you so much for bringing this up. I've lived in China with my husband for three years, and I just came back to the state two months ago. I found I lost the connection to the American life. I need time to pick it up. It's good that you have a master degree. I only have a undergrad degree in CIS, and it's so hard for me to get a job here. My husband is a business man. Money is not an issue for me. So I really don't mind how much they pay me, I just need a job that offers me medical insurance. I didn't have any confidence until I read this topic. Thanks to those who replied. Your words are very encouraging.
  6. My husband arrived at JFK on 10/5. We expected to receive the GC in three weeks, but he got two welcome letter on 11/18, and the address is wrong (state and zipcode are incorrect). As I posted before, I called the USCIS, but they couldn't solve the problem and just asked me to wait one more month to see what's gonna happen. On 11/25, the GC finally showed up in our mailbox, and the address is still incorrect. It's the incorrect address taking us so long to receive the GC. My question is: Should we write to USCIS to correct the address? We checked the box for a SSN card on the immigration application form, but it's been two months since POE, he still hasn't received it. Today we went to the SSN office, the lady said he's not in the system, and she put him into the system, so he would receive it in two weeks. Without the SSN card, the DMV doesn't allow him to take a written test for a driver license. We went to west coast for November the whole month. We wanted to go to Vancouver, so I called the Canada visa center to find out if he had to apply for a Canada tourist visa. The lady on the phone told me he has to although he has the temporary I-551 on his passport. So we went to the visa center and wait on a long line to get him a Canada visa. After such a long wait, the lady at the visa center told us that he doesn't need a visa, he could enter Canada with the visa on his passport cuz it serves as a temporary I-551(temporary GC). What the heck! Wasted our time.
  7. My husband finally got his welcome letter. It took the post office a month to deliver cuz the address is wrong. No wonder it took it so long while most people got their welcome letter in three weeks and followed by the GC. Now I wonder where the GC is. I called USCIS, the lady said, "well, the address on the welcome letter is wrong, it doesn't mean the address on the GC would be wrong, please give us 30 days, call back on Nov 30 if you still haven't received the GC by then." Did anyone have the same situation? What should I do now?
  8. No, the green card is not incorrect. My husband is still in China and plan to move to the US in Oct. He's thinking to have his American name on the green card. Does he need to fill out any form at the POE to have his first name changed? I wonder if the name on his SSN card will be the same as on his GC. Thanks.
  9. What if the first name on the green card and passport are different? Last name on the green card and passport are the same. Thanks.
  10. It would be a shot in the dark to advise you with so little information. It costs what it costs to apply. It's up to you. I take it your wife is one of two daughters in the US. What are the other pertinent circumstances? 226983[/snapback] My mother-in-law has three kids, one daughter in the US is waiting for H1, another daughter is in China, and my husband just got IR1 last month and will go to the US soon. The second time she went for the interview, my father-in-law passed away already. I think it was the main reason she got denied.
  11. The daughter is student (F1) at the first visit. When she try the second interview, her daughter graduated and didn't have a job at that moment. I assume the daughter was student. Now the daughter is applying H1 working visa thru her job. Do you think my mother-in-law should try again after the daughter gets the H1? Many thanks.
  12. My mother-in-law has been to the US once for visiting her daughter, and she left the US before the expiration date, but she got denied this time, why? She has property, bank account, another daughter but no husband in China. She's been to many countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and Canana. My friend's parents got a one-year visitor visa recently. They prepared the same documents my mother-in-law prepared. They don't have any child in China. And they've never been to the US before. How come they could make it but my mother-in-law couldn't? Does anyone have any idea? Thanks.
  13. Paula, I'm sorry to hear this, don't worry, you'll be fine. Just give them what they want, they won't give you hard time. Good luck.
  14. The invitation letter has to be translated into English and be notarized? We would like to give it another try next year, but I think the chance is very low cuz we can't prove my mother-in-law's relationship to China (no intention immigrating) cuz both her son and daughter are in the US and her husband is dead.
  15. Some friends have the following summary: 1. My sister-in-law's status. She's applying for H1 (working visa), and is not yet approved. 2. My father-in-law passed away. 3. My SO is holding an IR1 visa. 4. My mother-in-law is retired. That's why the consulate thought my mother-in-law has the intention to immigrate. Therefore, I have another question: Can my SO file a petition for his mom after getting his greencard? Thank you very much.
  16. Lou, calm down and be patient. Look at my timeline, I got even worse, it took GUZ six months to receive my case. I worried like you do now, but it's over, the day will finally come, don't worry.
  17. No one would force you to bribe at the physical exam center. I went there with my SO, all he had to pay was 800RMB exam fee and 200 to 300RMB vaccination fee. That's all. Don't think too much.
  18. I think you could. I did my SO's in English only.
  19. Could the wife and son do AOS after getting into the states with K3/4? I think doing AOS and keeping I-130 will lead to the same end --- IR1 as long as the marriage is 2 years or longer. When I first applied for my SO, our marriage was under 2 years, so I did CR1 for him, but he still gets the IR1 now since our marriage is more than 2 years at his interview.
  20. How did your wife and son get into the states? How come they have to go back to China for interview? I assume the interview should take place in the states since they're already there.
  21. Hunter, I can't wait, any good news? Good luck.
  22. Congratulations!!!! Redsunset, I totally agree with your observation. The VO go over the files, make the decision or make up the questions before the interview. Be well prepared. I followed the suggestion by CFL's FAQ for interview.
  23. Dear all, Thanks again for your precious help. Both me and my SO appreciate it alot. We would like to share the detail of the whole process. I think an immigration lawyer is helpful. Maybe some of you do not think so. My lawyer did provide alot of help during the process. He prepared all the documents and followed up very closely for us. He sent in the case at the end of April 2005, and the case was completed at NVC in September. After the case was completed, we thought P4 would get to us very quick, but we didn't get anything after waiting for 6 months, and we forgot about the lawyer. My brother reminded me that I should get help from the lawyer, and some of you suggested to contact my senators. So we did both ways, and both contacted related department for me. Within a month, we got P4. The interview was on 5/31/06 at 7:15am. It was raining that morning. We got there around 7:00am. My SO thought we would be the first one. I laughed at him. I knew there must be alot of people waiting on line already cuz I read from some of you occasionally. He was shocked when he saw the crowd. There were at least 6 lines including immigration visa 7:15am, immigration visa 8:00am, and non-immigration visa, etc. We got into the wrong line at the beginning. Good that I asked the security which line was for 7:15am. At about 7:30am, they started to let the line get into the building. My SO showed his appointment letter and passport, and I showed my US passport. I was worried that they wouldn't allow me to get in, but I could follow my SO to the 4th floor, and the security at 4th floor told me the USC service begins at 9:00am, so my last stop was 4th floor. My SO and other interviewee lined up at 4th floor, and the security there checked their appointment letter and passport again. After they left for 5th floor, I was told to wait at the waiting room or coffee shop at the 4th floor, and I chose to wait at the coffee shop, cuz I've been there for USC services, and I know the exit connected to the escalator is right next to the coffee shop, so I could see him immediately when he gets out. I waited for 3 hours and chatted with other interviewee's family/relatives to drive my worry away. I prayed for him when I felt anxious. At about 9:30am, people started coming down from the 5th floor, but not my SO. That drove me crazy. The lady next to me tried to comfort me by saying, "you husband must pass the interview." I asked, "why took so long? How come these people got out ealier than him?" She said, "these people might fail the interview, those who passed have to wait for a long line to pay the fee for express mailing his passport with visa, so be patient." That made me feel better. My SO got out at 10:30am. The following was what he told me. Security check. No cell phone is allowed, the security kept his cell phone. Waiting room. First call after one hour, window 27, submitted medical report and other document such as financial support. Second call after half hour, window 19, finger print. Third/last call, half an hour later, window 20, interview. The VO called his name. He got to the window and saw a 30 year old handsome white guy with smile on his face all the time. The VO asked for my SO's passport. While flipping through the passport, the VO asked the following questions: 1. How do you know your wife? 2. How many times has your wife visited you? 3. Where was your wife born? 4. Who filed the affidavit of support for you? 5. Have you ever been to the US? 6. Have you been to other countries? My SO took out all the materials I prepared for him, such as pictures and letters, and was about to hand those in to the VO. The VO said to him, "there is no need to present me these." with a big smile on this face. My SO was confused. And then the VO said, "congratulations, your visa is approved, you can pay the fee at the post office over there." and gave him the red slip. My SO muted for a second and then asked, "what?" He couldn't believe it would be so fast, it was like a one minute thing. I guess he was shocked too much, cuz he didn't even say "thank you" to that handsome VO and walked to the pose office directly. There were 60 to 70 people on the post office line waiting to pay the fee. Two lines, one for immigration visa, another for non-immigration visa. 20 RMB is visa fee, 15 RMB is for express mailing (EMS, Guangdong province resident only) his passport with visa. That's all. I hope this would help. If you have any question, reply yo this topic or PM me, I'll try my best to help.
