tywy_99
I think an uncommon name is advantageous.I was told by the Consulate one time that common names among the Chinese does present a problem. Any NCIC hit on a particular name will have to be checked out and this can take time depending on the commonality of the name. Link to comment
bubbafred10
An uncommon name only needs one name check, as the case with my laopo. Back when, I called DOS and asked when the second or third name check would be done, and the reply was that only one check needed because the name is not common. goneflying2000
An uncommon name reduces the possibility of a name hit in both the name check and security clearance. Link to comment

I have also heard that when they do the name check, they also input the DOB, so that they are checking those names born on that particular day, which narrows the search. Link to comment
