  1. I cannot see them getting a visa to any western country without a good reason for going. How hard is it to get a Canadian tourist visa? Maybe they could take a tour to London and apply at the Embassy there but I don't think they want to go through all that trouble. They are happy in China but would like to see where we live. I was not thinking about moving to Mexico but would move to China. First sweetie wants to complete her BS and then get her MS and then get a job with an American Co in China...............we will see.
  2. I got the letter and a stack of other info off to SH. We stopped in at Sen. Alazars office yesterday and talked to one of his men. I asked that since the Senator was suppporting amnesty for illegals and that illegals were causing our problem, I thought he should file a special bill allowing my in-laws to get visitor visas. Will see what happens.
  3. As you probably know, it is very hard to fire a govt employee. I think our govt works something like a Communist govt in that no one will take resposiblity for thier actions as they know they have a job forever. The higher ranking ones also can count on a bonus no matter how they preform. The lady that was in charge of visas before Ms. Harty was given a bonus when she retired, probably under pressure, after it came out that several 9/11 highjackers had filled out incomplete visa apps and showed mostly false info. Our govt is broken.
  4. March, I never saw it. Are you talking about office workers? Now those guys from the villages in suits with sledge hammers knocking down walls are working pretty hard. Most of the girls in shops don't seem to be.
  5. None of those assumptions are true for us. If you have been reading my posts in "stories" you would realize that. Do you work as a VO in SH? Acually our favorite place to eat is Japanese. Not many Chinese here and she likes it that way. Need to finish cleaning house. In less than 6 hours she will be on the plane in SH and on her way home.
  6. My wife had trouble finding a job at first and her English was pretty good. But she lucked into a job at POLO when she went there and many of her friends from ESL were working there. After a few months they wanted her to become a lead and work into being a manager. They could not believe it when she turned it down. Her second job came when her accounting teacher practically forced her to apply. So, my recommendation is to get her English up to snuff, find where other immigrants are working and not rush things. Everyone wants good help but many employers don't know it when they see it fill out an application. I would think that her English would be pretty good if she was working as a cashier. She should keep her present job (10 hours a week and she is exhausted?) and look around for something better. Remind her also that employers usually give a raise after a couple of month also. Going on my wife's experience, she also needs to stay very busy all the time - if no one needs to check out, be folding and straightening clothes. Ask the mgr to teach her other jobs. A begining job is just that, the sky is the limit. Remind her that she is in America and unlike China, hard work is rewarded.
  7. I realize there are many reasons but don't you think it is mis-using the system to try to stay if your marriage has failed? After all, that was the basis on whick the govt granted the visa.
  8. If you have one for Ms. Harty, thy that one and ask for O'Connell. Did you try the DOS site to see if they have a directory? When you talk to some one, know about our famous black hole and say you are afraid that the FBI has lost the request for your clearance. The asst that helped us was Andrew ****** but I am now sure he is still there. Probably not as he was too interested in customer service to work for the govt.
  9. Sounds fishy to me. In China a domestic passport is one used to visit sensitive areas. Other than countries like China and The Ukrain that have domestic pp, I would think all passports are international. It is pretty clear that the US does not issue them. Maybe she can become a citizen faster there and gets a reqular pp.
  10. That makes things easier but let me remind people that when you go for the medical and HIV test to make sure new needles are used. Some times they reuse them.
  11. Our condo in Nanjing had a rented door! The doorman came and collected the rent on just the door. But it was good. Had a round key with four prongs sticking our and it operated at least 6 dead bolts and was steel . I always thoughtit was to keep the govt out but the guy we rented it from was former party member. But here, no problem with her worrying but the crime rate has been going up with the influx of illegal aliens but they are not hitting homes.
  12. If the love that brought her here no longer exists, why would she want to stay?
  13. Try June O'Connell, Chief, Public Inquires Div, Visa services. She is at DOS but I don't have a phone no.
  14. Thanks all. Many of the issues are discussed in the letters I am enclosing such as the letter from one from and to Ms.O'Connell at visa services in DC. I did not see the need to state something again. I really appreciate your comments. We agreed that this last attempt would be their lsst attempt and will go the immigration route next, maybe. It just seems like a lot of work just for a visit. To be reconsidered a new application has to filled out and the money paid again. Already $500 in the hole and I know when to quit. They say you can file as long as you have a change in the situation. My mother in law is too old to have another kid and I think that is the only thing that would change anything. I would think about moving to Mexico but the income requirements to get permany residence are pretty high!!
  15. Push, I did not write McCain to get him help me, but to make him aware of other problems illegal aliens make for us. All a Senator can to is to ask the consulate "whats up with this?" Here is volley 2 and I would appreciate your commemts. May 25, 2006 227 Sunlight Drive Dillon, Colorado 80435 Mr. Christopher S. Machin Acting Consular Section Chief United States Consulate 1038 West Nanjing Road Westgate Mall, 8th floor Shanghai 200041 China Dear Mr. Machin: On the 11th of July of last year, you were kind enough to communicate with my Senator, Senator Allard, regarding the failure of my mother –in-law, Dr. XX Zhilan to get a tourist visa. This was the second time she had applied for a tourist visa, the first time being a year prior when she applied with her husband XXXJie. At that time, they were told that they did not have enough ties to China to ensure that they would return to China before their visa expired. This is the reason she applied alone the second time. The second time she was told that, among other things, that since I was ill and she was a Doctor, there were afraid that she would overstay her visa to care for me. I have stated this issues in the copy of a letter that I sent to Mr. Bangert (attached) of your Consulate on September 1, 2005. On may 8th of this year, XX and XXX applied again as they had traveled out of China and hoped that would show that they would leave and return. They were denied once again. I had furnished a list of their ties to China (attached) for the Officer to see. It has become evident that they met all the requirement for tourist visas as the Officer, a woman working at window 11, decided that my marriage with my wife was a sham because of our age difference, so they could not get visas. This news struck to the hearts of my in-laws and hurt us terribly when we found out. It is discouraging to know that this Officer does not know enough about the K visa process to know that my wife had an interview in Guangzhou before she was given her K1 visa. Nor does the Officer know that we both went to her Green card interview in Denver and were approved. This Officer also wondered why my wife had not returned to China in the three years since she left. I have enclosed several posts that I have made to www.candleforlove.com web site. This is a highly regarded message board that deals with Chinese/American relationships and is used by the Consulate in Guangzhou to communicate with us. Also attached is a paper my wife wrote for her college English composition course. These documents will show why we are so upset with the Officer and will show that she is not quite the psychic that she thinks she is. I hope you will read them and forward them to the Officer with the request that she write apologies to both my in-laws (in Chinese please) and to my wife and myself. I think that you will have to agree that her statements were far out of bounds and unwarranted. My wife is currently in China visiting as she has a three week break between semesters. This is the first break she has had in the three years she has been here As a result of this last denial, we have to accept the fact that for some reason the U.S. government does not want them to visit here. We are all very sorry that they will also miss her graduation from the University of Colorado in two years. Sincerely, The Candle posts I am sending are True love and 3years. Ski
  16. My wife has not mentioned anything. She is very happy here and has many friends here. She has no Chinese friends that she can see regually and that is fine with her. She is in Nanjing now as her parents did not get visas and she needed to have some teeth pulled. Here the DDS wanted $759 for three, there the cost will be 100RMB which means her trip cost $360! She can't wait to get back home.
  17. OK now, everyone that believes every thing they hear from 001 raise their hands.
  18. Mick, Some of the things you brought, I have covered in other letters at other times. I am starting to get good ayt this stuff. Your rants are always welcomeI I never expect to get any more than an automated response from a Senator. Ski
  19. The first shot.... Dear Senator McCain, May 17, 2006 On Monday May 8th, my wife's parents had their interviews for tourist visas. It was the third time she has applied and the second time he has applied. The total cost has now been $500. just to have interviews. They are given different excuses each time but they have met all the published requirements so it is apparent that the sole reason they do not get visas is that the U.S. Government is afraid that they will over stay their visas and become illegal aliens. Now you want to give amnesty (I have a dictionary) to the very people who have caused this problem for my family members. Senator, like you I can remember the period after WW2 and how great our co9untry was then and how patriotic people felt. Like you I served in the military. However, I am how ashamed to be an American as we continue to do the biding of the Mexican president and the mobs in the streets. Just so you can have your strawberries and lettuce picked. You used to be my hero for surviving all those years in a Vietnam prison and continuing to serve your country in Congress. I even donated to your 2000 presidential bid. Why are you selling our country to Mexico? Do you realize what 30 million more people will do to our country? Have you given any thought to having Puerto Ricans come and pick your veggies/ They have about a 10% rate of unemployment and they are Americans. We do not need to deport anyone, just fine the employers of illegal aliens and most will go home. There is no need to break up families as the children born here are free to go with their parents. The Federal Government needs to do its job or the problems get larger. This issue is a prime example of that and now because you failed to do your job, you are asking all Americans to sacrifice. Sincerely, Gerald W.Dobert Dillon, Co.
  20. Ken, not to mention the green card interview to which we both went. If Jie has a brother or sister still in China,, her parents may be able to get visas.
  21. I think the operation would be less painful than sleeping in different rooms. See an eye, ear nose and throat specialist. I believe it can be done with a laser.
  22. Tony, Sponsoring then is the only way we have left. They do not want to stay here so if they get green cards they can come and go. Sweetie is in Shanghai now after her long trip. Almost 1AM so I hope she is sleeping and not staying up talking. I will go to Senator Salazars office in Denver and show them all the papers I have saved regarding this issue and ask why he wants to give anmesty to people who have caused this problem. Iwill write newspapers and McCain. Kennedy is hopeless. Why does Mass keep electing him and his relatives? Meanwhile several thousand illegals have entered our country.....
  23. It is not about human rights, it is about racism.
  24. My in-laws went in for their interview in Shanghai on Monday. It is obvious that they meet all the requirements for a tourist visa. The first time they both applied and were given the reason they were denied as being that they only had one child. The second time was because they had not been to another country and so have not shown that they could leave China and return. As father in law was staying behind, they could not use the first reason again. And as they have now been to other countries and returned, they could not use that. So what did they use as an excuse? My wifes and my age difference!!! What does that have to do with tourist visas?? Don't they think that if the US cared, they would have brought it up at the K1 interview or the green card interview. We are completely pissed. I have to think that the Chinese govt cares about its citizens much more than the US govt does. Sweetie will be winging her way to Shanghai on Wed. Bumed out Ski
