  1. Select Comfort mattress the only way to go. No problem whatsoever with a bed when she got here. I bought just the top mattress, placed it on a water bed frame. Best mattress I've ever had. Bought a demo model from a display, on just replaced model. Paid $500 vs $900. Only way to sleep.
  2. Yes, get it done in China. Save a lot of money. Save hassles with our corrupt Civil Surgeons.
  3. I just stapled the envelop to a blank sheet of paper, then two-hole punched the paper, then used Acco fastener. Did the same with photos, put them in envelop and stapled them to a blank sheet.
  4. Same thing happened to me. We went to a community health center. Saved about $240 on vaccinations. Got the 4 we thought they'd need. Included Hep B, later found out not needed, but wanted it any way due to high Hep B in China. Called around and finally found a CS who would sign off without giving a physical. I'm reporting one for extortion as she would not do without physical. If you show the papers from the I-485 form, stating they do not need it, they have to skip physical - I could tell doctor didn't like that I knew the regs, as a friend a month earlier had to pay for the physical (over $400 here in Alaska). Don't need all the shots. Just ones for age group. Good luck.
  5. From what I hear, as soon as they get your documents, they take apart and sort as they want. Your binder is not used. All they request if possible is that documents are hole punched at top (not sides) and held together with a metal 2 hole clip (can't remember what it is called - any office supply shop has them). I used blank pages to separate my documents and placed tabs at the bottom of this page (they do not want on sides), with numbers corresponding to my Index. The tab numbers can be purchased at any office supply shop or Freddies.
  6. On the forms for filing for Adjustment of Status it has a block with "File Number A- What does this mean???? Thanks.
  7. Finally got my wifes shots. The first Civil Surgeon demanded a complete physical. ($480, not counting shots). We went to a Community Center to get the shots. $137 vs $380. Finally found a Civil Surgeon's nurse who said okay. Still wasn't sure so I faxed a copy of the instructions, high lighting where is said don't need physical. When we got there I explained to the nurse that a physical wasn't needed per USCIS regulations. The doctor came in, saw all my papers laying on the cot, asked for the vaccination documents, said he'd sign, came back with the sealed envelop and copy. $69. A co-worker took his wife to the same doctor 2 months ago, the doctor demanded a physical, and not knowing he allowed his wife to do it. A lot of wasted money. If you don't show them you know the rules, they will screw you.
  8. We have been living in SSN hell. When we heard nothing, we went to the SSN office. After some searching they found upon entry in the US that they had spelled my fiance(now wife) wrong, (an S instead of a G), and instead of her birthdate with the year 1972, they put in 2005. We have been waiting on Homeland Security to get this straightened out. What a mess. And all SSN says is they can't do anything until Homeland corrects their mistake.
  9. We just did this on August 9th, 2005. As in the last reply, make sure she has her passport and visa. Also she will need her identity card (or whatever they call it - has her photo on it). The first woman at customs was having a big problem over the visa, I was about to request a supervisor when another lady came over, looked at it and said there is no problem, she is okay with the visa. Oh, yes. Make sure she fills out the right small form on the bus on the way to customs. The bus driver gave my fiancee the wrong one and she had to leave the customs gate, go back to the forms desk and fill out another form. I was allowed to go in the same line as my fiancee through customs. One guard objected, but the woman at the gate said okay.
  10. Depends upon the season. I was told by the airline, no problem, you can get a ticket any time. So I purchased an open ticket for my return flight. I called immediatly after we received Yan's visa. "Sorry we have nothing until September 3rd". I called Augusts 3rd. Big converntion in Hong Kong. I called several agents with no success, out of Guangzhou or Hong Kong. E-mailed a friend in California, him and his wife worked 2 days getting me a flight out of Hong Kong. Cost us $2200 one way through Korean Air. We were traveling to Alaska. But several airlines now have flights to Alaska. Still have to fight with the other airline about my return ticket which is good till 1/1/06. ARGH.
  11. Extra shipping charges from Nanning to Shenzhen was just a couple dollars shy of another ticket. ARGH. Arrived Hong Kong, mailed one package, may mail more tomorrow, depending what happens on check-in.
  12. Korean Air Line has a limit of 43 pounds, not 70 pounds. Unless you have an adjoining flight with Delta which has 70 pounds, then Korean Air allows the 70 pounds. So be careful. Took effect January 2005. Not sure of what extra charges are if you are over, they didn't respond to my e-mail request.
  13. My SO quit a good job to take English lessons full-time. Hasn't worked for the last 3 months.
  14. I am going Korean Air. Only way out of here. They allow 43 pounds maximum for luggage. Has anyone had any dealings with them? If so, what are charges for extra weight? Are they hard to get along with. My lao po has a lot of stuff. Would it be better to mail/UPS/Fed Ex from Hong Kong? I'm sure Hong Kong is cheaper than Nanning. Thanks.
  15. What airline did you use? I have to go Korean Air. Their limit is 43 pounds. Unbelievable. Dang suitcase must weight 10 pounds. Anyone had experience with costs on Korean Airline?
  16. My lao po has a lot of stuff. Mostly clothes. But tonight her parents gave us a bunch of things including a statue carving of an eagle, beautiful. But it is too big and delicate for a suitcase. What is the best and cheapest way to ship? UPS, Fed Ex, postal service. From Nanning. This has been covered before but can't find it right now. THANKS!
  17. Paper ticket or e-ticket should be fine. When entering HK, she might have to show her passport with the K visa. With both K visa and airticket to USA, there shouldn't be any problem. 143861[/snapback] What about an e-mail schedule of flight? Plan to pick up ticket in Hong Kong.
  18. Two quick questions: 1. What does my lao po ask for at customs when entering the USA? I know it has to do with work, but off hand can't remember and can't find in my notes. Time differenced is hitting me hard with the heat. 2. Does my SO need a Hong Kong visa to enter Hong Kong or is the US Fiancee visa enough? We will fly out of Hong Kong. Traveling from Nanning to Schenzhen by plane, then bus to Hong Kong. What should we be prepared for? Okay three questions. Thanks!
  19. Congratulations. Good to meet you both. Wishing you well.
  20. Here I sit, my fiancee and I ready to fly to the USA. Airline told me no problem with open ticket as is right at end of the tourist season, should have no problem. But now they say nothing till September. So here we sit trying to find possibilities out of here. We are on stand-by. ARGH!!!!!!!!
  21. I arrived in Guangzhou Saturday to be here for my fiancee's interview. She went in at 7:15 Monday, came out at 12:45. Here is the brief of the interview: Questions asked: Who helped you to apply? my fiance How many trips did he make to see you? 3 You have the photographs? She gave him photographs, several pages, he looked at the first page and said "good". What does you fiance do for work? Manager "You interview pass." The interview may have lasted 1-2 minutes. He did not ask if I was here, she didn't show my Passport, but I did register through the internet before my arrival. Didn't want to announce until we received the visa in hand. Now we are trying to get tickets out of here. Big shoppers convention in Hong Kong so flights are tight.
