  1. I leave today for our interview August 1st. Fly to Hong Kong, take train to Guangzhou. Please put us in your prayers. Thank You.
  2. Dang, no wrestling. What is a man to do? Seems like some people in near past were not allowed together in Youth Hostels - guess they have different standards than the rest. Maybe due to the low price, if they didn't ask for marriage certificates, prostitutes would be using the Youth Hostels.
  3. I think this is mostly people staying in the Youth Hostel who are having this problem. I didn't think it would really matter.
  4. Some on here have said if you are not married, you cannot stay together in a hotel room in Guangzhou. Is this true. We hope to stay in the Victory Hotel. Anyone had experience with this? The postings I saw on this were a while back. But is of concern. Can't afford two rooms. Thanks.
  5. My fiancee's visa is at the original location #1 Shamian South Street. Her interview is August 1st. The move is:(from the P4 notification) " Starting August 8, 2005, all interviews will take place at the new Consular Office: 5th Floor, 2nd annex of Tianyu Garden, 136-142 Linhezhong Rd., Guangzhou. Our mailing address remains the same: #1 Shamian South Street, Guangzhou, China 510133."
  6. Congratulations. You are getting closer. Reading your post, inspired me to call DOS again. Good news. Our interview is scheduled for August 1st.
  7. This morning I called DOS and was informed that my fiancee's interview is scheduled for August 1st. YES. Now the rush starts.
  8. This morning I called DOS and was informed that my fiancee's interview is scheduled for August 1st.
  9. Called DOS today, nothing scheduled for our interview as of yet. E-mailed Guangzhou and got the "about two months" note yesterday. A friend (from Chicago) whom I met while in China was about 3 weeks ahead of us. Our P3 was 3/11/05. So they were the third week in February. They received their P4 May 15th, had their interview June 14th (received visa). (he did not go - only once to China) I figured we would have heard something by now, but nothing. I am wondering if they are holding back for their move?????????? Our projected P4 on Candle for Love was June 14, interview first scheduled for July 14, now July 29th.
  10. I was afraid I'd have to do a co-sponsor, due to self-employment. But I took a job last November just for this purpose of the interview. I do make well over the minimum required needed for the visa. I have worked there since November 4, 2004, seven months. They are promoting me to manager this week. Is this long enough or should I still have a co-sponsor? On the I-134 it only requests tax papers if you are self-employed. Which I am not any more. Or should I have my tax papers with just in case they request them? Thanks.
  11. I am doing a fiancee visa. Due to self-employment and major deductions the last few years (tools, new vehicle), I show below the required income. I am doing a I-134. Which does the co-sponsor use? I-864??? Or the I-134?? Thanks.
  12. There are many new as well as LONG time members who do not have their time line. For those LONG timers - it is real beneficial to us who are still waiting to have your timeline here. We can compare ours to yours and get some idea as to our wait. Thanks.
  13. My lao po has some good programs for Chinese translation to English on her Chinese based Windows XP machine. I am wondering if these programs will install on an English based Windows XP or if I need to get the Chinese version of Windows XP for the computer I am building her. Never had to deal with this before. Thanks!
  14. Article 30: http://www.ebeijing.gov.cn/Study/VEExit/t2...0816_158438.htm Rules Governing the implementation of the law of the People's Republic Of China on the Entry and Exit of Aliens(Digest) ========== One thing you all missed, my fiancee is not living in her registered quarters. I cannot report this as her residence or where I am staying.
  15. Article 30 When an alien wishes to lodge at the home of a Chinese resident in urban areas, the host or the lodger shall, with in 24 hours of the lodger's arrival, report to the local public security organ with the lodger's passport and certificate as well as the host's residence booklet and fill in registration forms of temporary accommodation. In rural areas, the host or lodger shall report to the local police station or residence registration office within 72 hours of the lodger's arrival. ==================================== She does not live where her residence is listed. Sub-renting from friend. I heard of a man who was fined several hundred dollars for not reporting. When you stay at a hotel, they ask for passport and report your where-abouts to police.
  16. I am in Nanning on my second trip. Thought my fiancee had taken care of notifying police. Plus if she didn't I thought it a simple matter to call police. But she did not understand my e-mail. Now I find out the apartment she is renting is not her legal house listing. She is not listed at this address. She is sub-renting from another person. Now I am in a dilema on what to do. I can't afford to stay in a hotel this trip. We can't report the address to police. What should I do? Has anyone had trouble with police? I hear they can fine a person pretty hefty if they want, kick a person out of the country, deny future visits, and worse if they want. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. No, a different Ron in August. I had a good flight.
  18. I'll be flying to Nanning on April 2nd, arriving in China on the 4th, returning the 15th. Anyone traveling during that time, anyone in Nanning who would like to meet for coffee?
  19. Anyone know of a cheap phone card that can be used in Alaska? I have checked out all those mentioned on Candle for Love, but none of them work in Alaska. We are treated as another country, not part of the USA, when it comes to phone cards, cell phones, telephones, mail and shipping. I am using Yahoo to speak to my fiancee, phone charges here are very high. Thanks!
  20. Good letter and I am willing to sign. Will send my signature snail mail, which is slow from Alaska. Maybe I will scan and send e-mail. Thanks for your time and effort.
  21. Ring size depends upon which jewelry store you go to. Some use Hong Kong, some Japanese. My fiancee had a size 12 or 12 1/2, it turned out to be a 5 1/2. I went to a jeweler here in the USA, purchased a ring sizer (basically plastic with ring sizes to match to a line). Cost a buck. Sent it to her and got the right size.
  22. Come on - Alaska isn't that bad. It was only -55F a week ago and was down to -44F last night. May get above 0 this weekend. There are a lot of Asian's here, including women. I work with four Asian women and they complain way less about the cold than American women.
  23. Here in Alaska we use "midwives". No hospital unless there are difficulites. They do the pre-delivery usually done by a doctor and delivery. Doctor is on duty for consultation/advice and on call in case of emergency. They have a room at their clinic for births or it can be done at the pesons home. Much less expensive and more natural.
  24. I found a program that teaches phonics for "adults"- not the famous phonics program for children. It seems to have more detail to it than the famous program. This one has many more cd's of word pronunciation. And a better price. Their advertisement states it is great for those learning English. I am wondering if anyone has tried using phonics to help their fiancee/spouse learn English. It may help with proper pronunciation of words that seem to get trashed in the learning process.
