  1. Interesting, I never got a "Undeliverable" message. However, I did re-submit it to the correct address. I got the following automatic reply. Make sure you get this reply when submitting documents.
  2. OK, so I just saw this. Did not notice the bad link at 2am. (need more coffee) Clicked on it and all documents were emailed to nvcdocuments@state.gov. Strange, I have not received a delivery failed notice. Would it still be good to email these to the correct address? I think it would because the link one the NVC Faq page is correct.
  3. OK, we have a copy of an older white book, but not bound in a white book. My wife says she can't get an updated white book. Notary won't give it to anyone else. Even if she goes back to China, they wouldn't give it to her because she is US citizen. Is that correct? How can we get her an updated white book just to be safe?
  4. Okay, we got approval from USCIS for my wife's son. He is 18, so no wait for visa. We had him get white book for police report and birth certificate. The notary made a mistake on the birth certifacte. It shows his birth date as xx/xx/98. Should be xx/xx/96. I assume we need to have birth certifactes for him and mom at the consulate interview. Is this correct? This means we need to make sure the date is correct.
  5. My wife received approval of I-130 to bring her 18 year old son to US. This was approved on 8-25-2014. It shows they sent it on 9-3-2014 to NVC. She is US citizen so there should be no wait for Visa. Any Idea how long should we expect to receive the instructions packet from NVC? Visa Bulletin seems to indicate maybe we should call if it has been 3 weeks? Does that sound about right?
  6. How do you know "they want the parent to be there if the son or daughter is under 18"? And where did you get "They are not allowed to question minors without the parent/s present."? For your reference, my friend Tim (U.S. Citizen) petitioned his 16-year-old stepson's IR2 visa and the interview took place about 6 weeks ago in Guangzhou. Tim and his wife (10-year green card) went to Guangzhou planning to accompany the 16-year-old the entire duration from medical, interview, to POE. Tim emailed the consulate asking for permission to accompany his just-turned-16-year-old (in April) stepson at the interview. The consulate replied, "Your beneficiary reaches age 16. And only kids under age 16 is allowed to have adult accompanied." So Tim did not accompany his stepson during the interview. Tim did not give his U.S. passport to the 16-year-old because he decided to keep it in case he needed to enter the consulate himself. The 16-year-old came out of the interview smiling and told his parents he passed the interview. Interestingly, he was asked a few questions about his mother and nothing about his stepfather (the petitioner). He was asked when his mother went to the U.S. and when was the last time she came to visit him in China. So the interview went well for Tim's stepson, but they were caught in the Department of State computer crash. It delayed the visa by about 2 weeks, then they had to work the CITIC bank to release the stepson's passport because the crash caused a glut of passports after the system partially recovered. No drama at the POE, the stepson got his SS card about 11 days after POE. Still waiting on his green card; the USCIS said the card went into production two days ago. I do think letting the beneficiary show the petitioner's U.S. passport at the interview is a good thing, and that's what I did for my then-fiancee's interview. Every case is different, but at least we know from Tim's recent experience that only kids under 16 can be accompanied by an adult. But it doesn't hurt to try or to email the consulate prior to the interview since rules can change. The Consulate needing the parents present because they are not allowed by law to interview a minor child is something I have heard from various lawyers throughout the last few years. This doesn't mean all consular officers know or follow the rules. It sounds like it should be no problem if she is there or not. This is what I figured as he is 18, but I just thought it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks
  7. Timeline shows: I-130 Timeline for Stepson Sent I-130 : July 17, 2007 Rcv'd NOA 1 : Aug 2, 2007 Rcv'd RFE : Dec 21, 2007 Sent Evidence : Mar 5, 2008 Citizenship Sent N-400 to NSC : Sept 16, 2008 Rcv'd NOA1: Oct 2, 2008 Test: Jan 13, 2009 Sworn in: Jan 14, 2009 Green-card holder filed I-130 before becoming a citizen, it would have been better and quicker if U.S. citizen step parent had filed it back in Aug 2007, yet even with naturalization I wonder why spouse did not inform NVC or USCIS of this getting the case bumped from F2A to F1 which would have gotten the visa pushed back late 2008 early 2009, only thing I can think may have been a custody issue, waiting till after age 18 would allow step child to decide. The I-130 filed in 2007 was filed by me as the step-parent. It went all the way the consulate interview. We were unable to get the father to sign a letter of consent. Next step, wait till he is 18 and can make his own decision. No letter needed. This is where we are today. Since she is now it USC, it only made sense to file using her name.
  8. My wife received approval of the I-130 to bring her 18 year old son to live with us. I know they want the parent to be there if the son or daughter is under 18. They are not allowed to question minors without the parent/s present. Will they want my wife to be there at the interview or can he go by himself?
  9. My wife's son wants to come to US. We will file for him as soon as possible as he is very close to 18. We filed for him back in 2008, but his father would not allow him to come. I have step-son's birth certificate (White book) from 2008 and copy of wife's birth certificate form 2004. I assume both of these need to be updated for interview at consulate. We are having a slight delay getting these. I was thinking go ahead and file with what we have. This gets us a priority date and starts the process for scheduling interview. Then update these as soon as possible before the interview. Just want to get this started as stepson will turn 18 in August. This should work right? Any one see any problems with doing this?
  10. My wife is looking to file for her son to bring him here to the US. She is a US Citizen. I was looking at the processing times for USCIS. It shows US Citizen filing for son processing date of March 2013. Yet right above it shows LPR filing for son processing date 5 months. This would be August 2013. Seems crazy LPR would process faster than US Citizen. Am I getting this information correct? He is 17 right now. His dad won't sign anything to let him come. He needs to be 18 at time of interview. Back in 2009 it only took a few months to bring her parents. I want to make sure we file early enough to have him get an interview soon after his birthday. He will be 18 in August. I would hate to get an interview before his birthday. Anybody have advice on a good time to file? Seems like we should go ahead and file now. Also, I have a copy of wife's birth certificate, but not the white book we got back in 2004. Will we need to update this?
  11. We have Kylin TV. $29 per month for both Kylin and Great Wall package. Gives over 60+ channels. Mom and Dad watch it constantly. Keeps them up to date on latest news and gives them great Chinese Soaps and Movies.
  12. Things you see and things you learn. Yesterday I was working on my wife's car (changing the valve body in her tramsmission.) and I sliced my little finger. It was bleeding pretty good and wouldn't stop so started I looking for band-aid. None to be found. I asked BaBa if he knew where we have band-aid. He runs into the kitchen, chops off a piece ginger, smashes it with a cleaver and hands it to me. I start thinking WTF? Oh well must be some Chinese herbal medicine trick. What the hell, I have an open mind why not give it a try. I place it on my cut for a few mintues. Wow, it stops bleeding. My wife comes home later that night. I mention this. She says, "You silly American, you don't know this? It is also better at disinfecting the wound than alcohol. Americans sure don't know too much."
  13. Wow Mike congrats !!!!! Awesome. My wife tried for her parents three times. No luck so we did the alternate thing. They now have their green cards and live with us. She is waiting for her sister's application to get approved. Looks like they transferred it and have started processing.
  14. What is the minimum age the child will no longer need a letter of approval from the other parent? My wife's ex is being uncooperative. We do not expect him to sign a letter of consent. The maximum age my wife can apply for her son without a wait is 21. Correct? Does everything need to happen by this age? Issuance of the visa, his travel to US and issuance of green card.
  15. My wife and I have been married for eight years. Two kids of our own. One is 7, the other is 2. My wife had a son from her first marriage. He stayed in China as his Dad would not let him come. Now he is 16. He will turn 17 in August. My wife is thinking let him come to US after he is finished with high school. Someone told her that she could bring him while he is 17 (next year). He can get his green card once he arrives. Apply for Advanced Parole for him to return to China to finish his last year of High School. Does this sound like it will work? My wife says a few on 001 said they have done it this way. If we wait too long. Then he would have a long wait. What is the maximum age she can bring him without waiting years for visa. Also, my wife is a US Citizen. She obtained citizenship in 2008 to bring her parents. What avenue does this provide her son if he wants US Citizenship? Does he need to apply by a certain age to use her citizenship as a path? My wife is planning for her son to attend University in the US. We thought of him coming on a student visa. Not a great option. Cost will be less if he is a resident with green card or citizenship. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I think we would granted the situation was the same. 9/11 was complicated by not having a very clear idea of who the enemy is where in 1941 the lines were clearly drawn with entire nations were concidered the enemy. When you see images of the Empire of Japan rolling over island after island or German tanks crashing through France doing what ever it takes to stop them is easier. Even in the age of TV and internet. I think it would be easy to unite the US, provided the responsible party was crystal clear. The US attitude was not too different from today in the years before the war. Thus, the reason why the US was isolated. We didn't really care who bombed the crap out of, invaded or massacred who as long as they left us alone. Everything was changed by Pearl Harbor. There are many who believe FDR let Pearl Harbor happen to not only thrust us into the war, but provide the much needed attitude that would unite this country in a common cause. I seriously doubt the US military was able to assist which such an elaborate plot. It is more likely the cause of military bureaucratic ineptness that kept us from having a defense in place. Our military and Heads of State could not fathom the idea Japan would attack us without provocation.
  17. Again BS... My primary account is with a credit union, absolutly no problem opening a joint account, even less than adding to my HSBC account. Not necessarily BS. It will depend greatly on the credit union. This is not the first credit union that has made this kind of policy. My wifes friend recently got married. The husband tried to add her to his credit union account and was told the exact same thing. Some credit unions still maintain their very strict guidelines that set them apart from banks. While other credit unions have opened up their membership and become nothing more than a local bank.
  18. Carl, how is the quality of the transmissions? Larry Usually it's pretty good but like any VOIP system it needs rebooting now and then. I found Italkbb quality, like any VoIP, depends greatly on quality of your ISP broadband connection. It was always pretty good when we had Comcast, but it had it times where the quality would drop. The quality has been extremely good with no drop in quality, since I switch us to Frontier FIOS. Keeps my wifes parents connected to friends and family in China. We love it.
  19. Another option is to request an interpreter. My insurance covers the cost of an interpreter. All the doctors on my insurance plan use them. This way my wife gets medical treatment where ever she wants and still understanding what is going on. She selected a new Primary Care Physician a little while back based on skill and recommendations, not language ability.
  20. Sweet Deal, Good Luck to Yu.... Btw - Not fair Carl, It is kind of a no brainer that Yu will know 10 times more than most of US.
  21. We spent all day at the 'China Moon Festival Event' in Portland. My wife had a booth to promote her new business. My son (with his left arm in a cast) and his kindergarten class performed a song on stage. Turned out to be a great day....
  22. Thanks Randy, Guess I did not read it clear enough.
  23. My wife's cousin came here on an F1 - student visa. She met someone and married. Which form is correct to file? Would she fill out I-485? Which box to check? Would she check h) other eligibilty, since nothing else states her situation? Thanks for any help....
  24. We are using I-talkbb and love it. Free long distance calls through 60 countries. This includes to and from China. It helps keep my wife's parents in touch with family.
