  1. Thank you dnoblett. Yes that would be my PlanB. Thank you Randy. I think this is probably only true for K1/2/3 visas that they do not issue SSN. Mine is F2A and in DS-260, there is a section which says: "Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order to receive an SSN and/or card." Since I have chosen "Yes", for F2A category, I do think they actually issue an SSN. For GC, the above link you provided was helpful, there is at least additional way to change the address other than updating this address at the POE only. But I do not have any clue if that would update of address for receiving SS card as well.
  2. Hi Randy, As always, thank you for the information. After this address is updated, it works for receiving both Green Card and SSN card? I am not sure if this can also secure correct delivery of the SSN as well? Let me also post this question to the original thread creator as well.
  3. I noticed that on my Immigrant Document Summary, the Final address in the U.S. contains old address instead of the updated/new address. We had the DS-260 updated with the new address but somehow this change is not reflected on Immigrant Document Summary sheet. Did anyone had the similar situation? How can we correct this? I have read in forums that we should update this at the POE. For some it worked and for some it still turned out that GC and SSN were sent to the wrong addresses. Are there any other ways which can confirm that GC and SSN would be sent to the correct/new/updated address?
  4. My appointment is schedule for May 18th by NVC as well. I just chose the delivery location in CGI. However, I have some problems. 1. I have this account when I previously scheduled my non-immigrant visa (B1/B2) as well. So when I completed my information and reached the final page, all the information is correct except it shows my DS-160 Confirmation information instead of DS-260 Confirmation! 2. Also, I remember for my business visa, when there was a barcode UID printout. But this time it is only a simple text format to printout with all the information listed out. Since it is Sunday, I have to wait till tomorrow to check with CGI Stanley. Did anyone had similar situation?
  5. Thank you dnoblett, but that post was also mine... I didn't not know then that there was a possibility that someone could come back to Beijing with the passport after visa was approved and then do the further processing from Beijing. I started this post to explore about this(coming back with passport and then do the further processing from Beijing) feasibility.
  6. Hi All, I read in one of the older threads where the applicant was a foreigner who was also working/living in Beijing and had to travel to Guangzhou for interview. Since that was an older thread, writing a separate one as I have few other questions. Thread/comment link for your reference: http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/46570-need-help-with-the-ds-260-workeducationtraining-section/page-2?do=findComment&comment=611143 He mentioned that after the visa was approved for him, he brought back passport with him to travel back to Beijing first and then from Beijing he sent his passport back to GUZ for the further processing. This was really good information for me(foreigner - living/working in Beijing), since I had been looking for such information as well (Being a foreigner adds up extra complications like this one...) However, my questions still remain unanswered..I really hope someone can help me on this one. 1. So if it was possible to bring back the passport after the interview, where should the passport pickup location be in CGI Stanley website - which we have to actually submit before the interview. My dilemma is, at this moment, I DO NOT know if I will also be able to get to bring back my passport and then sent to GUZ for the visa stamping process..I will most probably have to work it out with the VO on the day of the interview?! So, which pickup location do I select in this case before the interview, Beijing or Guangzhou..? 2. I called CGI Stanley if it will be possible to change the delivery address after interview in such case like mine. And they said it is NOT possible to change the delivery address after the interview... (OK! I know they can't but I was trying to explain if in such situation if the Consulate agrees to find me the solution, can I change then...and she almost got mad at me for asking such question..) !! Anyway, please let me know if anyone can help me on this. Thanks a lot in advance!
  7. Hi Talsi, Thank you very much for your above posts/comments ! Really helped me trying to find better options that I originally had! This is an older post but still trying my luck asking you couple of following questions regarding the above comments you posted since I am in the same situation like yours (foreigner and working/living in Beijing. I also want to take my passport with me to Beijing and then send to GUZ for further processing rather than waiting in GUZ the whole time for the passport) 1. Did you already know before the interview that you could arrange this way => You coming back to Beijing with the passport and then sending to GUZ later on? 2. Normally before the interview we need to choose our passport pickup/delivery location on CGI Stanley, where did you choose before the interview (if you didn't know about your passport arrangement) 3. Were you able to change your delivery/pickup address in CGI stanley after the interview? (I just called them and they told me I cannot!) 4. Lastly, how long did it take you to get your passport from GUZ to Beijing after all? Really hoping for some answers, Thank you very much in advance!
  8. Hey Wolfman, Sorry to hear about this..Since it has already been a month since you posted, I hope there has already been updates on this, hopefully a positive one! I am just wondering if your wife is Chinese or foreigner? In either case, do you remember filling out information about Education in DS-260 under Work/Eduction/Training Section? I am asking this because it looks like Education part is missing in the DS-260 application itself, at least this is the case for foreigners- and so is for me. If that was the case for you and your wife as well, it could be because they needed more information on this which there is currently now way to add information on DS-260? Was she asked to show her certificates etc during that interview and was she able to show these?
  9. Thank you very much everyone! Feeling a lot relieved! I will confirm with my HR and PSB to get more clear information.
  10. (Sorry admins, if I am not posting this under a proper discussion groups, please help to correct it if necessary) My situation: I am currently on Z-visa. However, it looks like after I quit my job, I still need a month or two in China to wrap up everything before I leave China. My concern: I heard that once you quit your job, your sponsor company will cancel your visa (which is directly linked with the residence permit). I did my homework before I post this topic. I read that although your work visa will be canceled as long as you have residence permit with you, you are still legally staying in the country ? Some say, once the work visa is canceled, your sponsor company would also ask you to go to local PSB to cancel your residence permit? 1. Whatever cancellation I might have to go through (work visa and residence permit), how much time do I actually have to leave the country without going to through any hassle ? I read 72 hours ? Is this true? 2. I also read that just to be in safe side, once the RP and WP gets canceled, I can changes from Z to L (Tourist visa) as a temporary option. I read somewhere this is only possible for 7 days - L visa??!! But some also mentioned that it is possible for regular 30 days - L visa ? What if I still need to extend this 30 days as well, possible ? 3. Lastly, what documents MUST I get from China - PSB / Sponser company /Banks / Medical insurance / Tax bureau / Hospitals etc before I leave the country. I do not have any plans to come back but just in case..if I need them abroad or for some reason coming back. Please share your valuable thoughts and suggestion. Thank you very much in advance!
  11. I had read somewhere that NVC's email system can't handle emails with attachments over 5MB. Not sure how true this is though. I myself submitted 25 PDF documents and barely managed to optimize the files to get under the 5MB limit. I do know of some people, with a large number of files to submit, who ended up submitting their documents in two separate packages/emails: 1st email/package for the financial documents only and the 2nd email/package for supporting documents only. They kept each email size under 5MB and clarified in each email that it was the 1st of two or 2nd of two packages being submitted for their case.
  12. Thank you dnoblett and wawster! Really insightful stuff. I hope others can keep chiming in with experiences of their NVC review and interview timeframes.
  13. The sum total of the sizes for all your attachments is supposed to be under 5MB! Check NVC instructions under Email Processing here. You can reduce the size of your PDFs by optimizing them with Adobe Acrobat Pro (free trial available) as described HotBaozi on one of his posts on the first page of this thread. I don't think submitting file links to external sites will work but I haven't tried that or heard of anyone who did.
  14. I submitted the financial and supporting documents to NVC through Elecronic Processing (EP) and have received a new 'GZO' case number. I also received email notifications from the NVC that they received files from me and to allow 30 days for them to review the documents. I'm hoping there are no problems or checklists and that I get a Case Complete soon. I'm wondering how long it typically takes the NVC to review the submitted documents. I've read timeframes ranging from 2-3 months to just one week (EP case for MTL). Does EP make a difference in the time it take to review the case? Please kindly share here how long it took your case to get to case complete after submitting all documents, if you encountered any problems and if you did EP or mail processing. Also, how long after the case complete date were your interviews scheduled for. Thanks.
  15. Although, my case is not there yet in Guangzhou (which I hope it would soon be) I am actually worried having to stay in Guanzhou for more than 2 weeks waiting for my passport. Haven't found out any information elsewhere either...yet.. I probably am not the first foreigner who is in this situation, but looks like I will have to accept the fact for now.
  16. Yes, I meant using this form to ask question to Guangzhou directly once my case arrives Guangzhou. I have tried earlier to ask them some question using this online form. Since my case has not yet been forwarded to Guangzhou, they simply replied- they do not have my case number - without answering anything about the questions I asked. They asked to contact them once the case has been forwarded to them.
  17. Ok, so I went to Entry-Exit Bureau at Lama temple today to ask about the possibility of having some kind of travel document which allows me to travel while my passport is at the embassy and the answer was loud and clear - NO! In a way, it make sense.., This is what they had to say: - If it was them holding passport for the visa issuance, then yes, they give this yellow document (which you guys are probably talking about) which can be used as travel document within China. - I should ask the embassy who keeps the passport to issue me a document, but they are not sure if it will enough for me to allow me to travel. So, for now, - this is all I got. Not sure if I will be going to local PSB to ask the same question. Don't think they have answer I want to hear. I will probably wait to call Guangzhou directly when my case gets there...
  18. I like your idea of compiling and organizing all documents into a single PDF file with the barcoded cover sheet and cover letter at the top. However, the NVC Document Scanning FAQs are specific that separated files be submitted for each document, "Create a separate file for each document, including all of its pages and both sides of double-sided documents. Do not include multiple documents in any scan file". In your case, did you submit all documents compiled into a single PDF? Did you have any problems with NVC because of this? Thanks for your help, HotBaozi.
  19. I am naming all files to being with our GUZ case number. So you included a page with a type case number as the first page for all files, not the barcoded document cover sheet with the case number. We don't have a GZO case number yet, I'm assuming we'll get one assigned after I email them the docs.
  20. 1. I want to leave them blank too but reading what some others had posted regarding getting a checklist for leaving this blank had me second guessing myself. And it didn't help that the restrictions on the form fields contradict the form instructions itself. 2. I will definitely use Part 11 for the too long to fit phone number. Thanks dnoblett! She doesn't have a US number, she is still in China. I realized that the barcode at the bottom would not be updated to reflect the text I input with the typewriter function in Acrobat Pro. If an actual human reads the form, then this manual "typewriting" would work. It won't work if they only scan the 2D barcode at the bottom of the page, but if this were so I wonder what happens to people who manually handwrite the forms. Hope you post back about if or not you ran into any problems with the N/As and the blanks. Thanks Greg D. Thanks newacct. Disabling the Acrobat JavaScript stops the 2D barcode from being updated with the changes made to any field at all.
  21. Hi, I am at the Electronic Processing step with NVC. I understand that each document needs to be in its own separate file. But from the discussion on this thread, it seems the OP is suggesting that the first page on each file (for each separate document), should be the barcoded document cover sheet. Is this correct? I had thought that the barcoded document cover sheets (for AOS and IV) would just be included as separate files in the email to NVC. I appreciate your help guys. Thank you.
  22. Thank you guys, I will drop by PSB at Lama temple in couple of days. I will post here for any information I get.
  23. Hi, I'm filling out the I-864 Affidavit of Support form (dated 07/02/2015) and ran into some confusion. I would appreciate any help or input. Should I leave the fields that are irrelevant to me blank or should I type 'N/A' for these? The I-864 Instructions says "If a question does not apply to you, type or print “N/A,”unless otherwise directed". I have also read elsewhere online from people who said they had received a checklist for leaving items on the I-864 blank and advised to enter "N/A". However, on the new I-864 form, there are many fields which DO NOT allow me to type "N/A" (specifically, it doesn't allow the slash "/") such as Accompanying Family Members in Part 3, Interpretator information in Part 9 and Preparor information in Part 10. On Part 2, Item 7, which is for the telephone number of the principal immigrant, the form allows entering only 10 digits but the mobile phone numbers in China are 11 digits! So the form does not allow me to enter the last digit of the Chinese mobile number. I have thought about printing the completed form to another PDF and then use the Typerwriter function in Acrobat Pro, to manually type in the 11 digit phone number in that space. However dong so will not update the 2D barcode at the bottom of the page which USCIS (and probably NVC) seems to use to capture the data from the form. I'm curious to know how others have done or would do for these issues. Thank you.
