  1. She wasn't making substantial salary last year in China. About 12,000 RMB per month before tax/deductions etc., she took home net about 8500 RMB each month.
  2. Sorry to be late to the party but I believe Enterprise is the only rental agency that will let you rent with a Chinese driver's license. I got this info from my wife's friends visiting US. You can call Enterprise and confirm.
  3. Need some tips on filing tax return please! Some background: My Wife Worked in China until early October 2014Moved to US at the end of October as K-1 holderMarried in November 2014Has SSN and local ID cardIn the process of obtaining 2 year conditional residency (2 yr green card)Correct me if I'm wrong...I should: File married and joint-filingReport her salary earned in China during 2014(?) If yes, should I report her before Chinese tax salary or after tax net salary?Any other things I need to look out for? Appreciate any pointers to save on taxes or avoid legal pitfalls. Thank you so much and Happy Year of the Goat!
  4. My wife went to Dr. Helen Quan in Seattle area. $50 to just sign off on the form and $160 for shots and blood work. My wife needed one booster shot so her total came to $110. Dr. Quan has all the forms and speaks Mandarin so that's a big bonus. Dr. Helen K Quan 6517 35th Avenue S.W., Seattle, WA 98126 (206) 937-1050
  5. Hi All, In my I-797 (notice of approval for I-129F), There's an A# number above my then fiancee's name. Is this the Alien number? I want to know because certain forms for Adjustment of Status asks for it. See link below for screenshot of form I-797. Thanks!! https://www.dropbox.com/s/1h3nifqtlsyw8bq/a%20number.jpg?dl=0
  6. You will probably need your Chinese partner for help with translation. These Chinese websites have good explanation and examples: Website #1. Website #2. Website #3.
  7. I just use "continuation sheet" for addresses. You can see what I did here http://candleforlove.com/forums/topic/47444-complete-k-1-application-sample/.
  8. Every state may be different but in the State of Washington, where I live, SSN is not required to obtain a marriage certificate. My wife and I got married before she got her SSN. From http://www.kingcounty.gov/courts/marriage/ApplyingForAMarriageLicense.aspx:
  9. Hi All, This web site has been instrumental to getting my K-1 application approved. I'm grateful for all the helps I've received and decided the post my complete (I blurred our personal info of course) and approved K-1 application as my way of paying forward . I'm fortunate enough to have my application approved in 3 1/2 months (that's including mailing back a question I missed) so I believe it can serve as a good reference. Please note everyone's situation is unique and no doubt your application will be different from mine; I take no responsibility on the (dis)approval of your application. I believe the value of my application to you is that you can 1) copy the entire format, 2) See how i did my cover sheet, 3) see how I did my continuation sheets, 4) how I narrated my relationship with photos, 5) how I added evidence of relationship progression. Click here to download my application. Some background and tips: 1) I'm a naturalized US citizen born in Hong Kong. I was not in the military or ever convicted of a serious crime. I have never been married before applying for K-1. 2) My current wife is a Chinese national, never married before and never been a communist party member. 3) Put your name, SSN, sign and date EVERY cover sheet and continuation sheet. 4) Showing communication pattern: It would be too much to include every text or social media post exchanged. What I did was showing a couple from each week. As long as you show progression and consistency, I think you'll be fine. The visa officer is probably not interested in reading EVERY single word you and your fiance(e) exchanged. Good luck!
  10. Here's my wife's experience: Go to your local Social Security Administration office. Bring the following with you: 1) Passport 2) K-1 visa (attached inside the passport) 3) Print out a copy of I-94 form from here https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/. She simply handed the above to the clerk (made copies and looked up info from a computer) and was handed back a sheet saying all info are being reviewed and the new SSN card should arrive in the mail in 2 weeks. The clerk did not ask any question. It was an easy 10 minute process. I believe the rule of thumb is to apply minimum of 2 weeks after entering the country so all info can be synced up across different government agencies. Also, make sure you let your postal carrier know the name of K-1 holder (I taped both my and my wife's name inside our apartment mail box) so he or she knows there's a new person living in that address or you may risk of mails being returned to sender. Hope this helps!
  11. Hello All! My wife is here on K-1 visa, we got married one month after she entered the country. We are prepping for AOS and have a question about vaccination. She got her shots done in China and all they gave her was the yellow booklet, she did not receive DS-3025 form. In her situation, she needs to go to a Civil Surgeon (CS) to complete certain parts of form I-693 correct? Does she need to do a full medical? Thanks!
  12. Below is my fiancee's experience at the interview: 1) The embassy only took form I-134 and my 3 year tax return, plus her police record, proof of not married, and birth certificate. They did not take my employment verification letter and W2's or anything else. 2) The interview lasted only 5 minutes with 3 questions. The visa officer had my fiancee's files on his desk next to his computer. He asked questions and entered data into the computer while thumbing through the files. The questions were (conducted in Chinese): What do you do for work? What does your company do? Last time you were in the US, were you on business or pleasure? What were you doing there?Very easy - no questions about the relationship or me. He also did not ask to see anything. I guess we were lucky that everything went fast and smoothly. I mailed my K-1 app on 5/1 and she interviewed on 8/18. This includes time that had to submit supplemental question because I had forgot to check one of the boxes in the K-1 app. Thanks to everyone that helped answered my questions here. You have no idea what a wonderful service you are providing to others. On to the next steps...
  13. Hi All, My fiancee is getting ready for the interview soon. I have the I-134 completed with pay stub and employment verification letter from my manager. Is this enough or I need to give her copies of my tax return for the previous 3 years? The tax return forms are required for the interview? Thanks!
  14. I understand that the point of I-134 is for the government to make sure your fiance(e) is not going to be a "public charge" or financial burden to society. They want to make sure the sponsor's income and/or assets total at least over 125% of poverty guideline. So my question is: my current salary is way over 125% of poverty guideline. I can prove it with employment verification letter from my company and my pay stubs. Do I still need to list my assets like stocks and bond, bank accounts, etc? By the way, this video was pretty helpful to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgyk7TBqmOo. The most interesting thing I learned is for question number 11, you should check "do not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the person(s).... The key word is "specific." Since you are sponsoring your fiance(e), you are going to make GENERAL (non-specific) contributions. "Specific" contribution means only items listed e.g. three months of rent at $1000/mo, 2 months of food at $300, 1 month of medical insurance at $500, etc. You are very specific about the time and monetary value of your contribution.
  15. I was unemployed during 2012 for a year thus my income wasn't higher than 125% poverty level. I make a good living in the software industry so all other years I should be good. Is my unemployment in 2012 going to be a problem for my K-1 application?
  16. I used TurboTax to file my taxes electronically, can I just print out PDF copies for my Form 1040 from TurboTax or I have to ask the IRS for "official" copy of my returns or transcripts?
  17. Hello, A couple of weeks ago I got the I-797 NOA saying my K-1 application has been forwarded to the NVC in New Hampshire. I called the NVC and received the GUZ #, invoice #, and beneficiary #. From my research, I can start doing I-134 Affidavit of Support -- is there anything else I need to fill out? Seems like my work is pretty much done here in the USA? For my fiancee in China (never married before with no kids), the tasks she needs to complete are: Completed Form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application.A passport valid for travel to the United StatesDivorce or death certificate(s) of any previous spouse(s) for both you and the U.S. citizen sponsor Medical examinationEvidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be requested)Two (2) 2x2 photographs.Did I miss anything? And what's this converting GUZ # to GZO?? Thanks for your time
  18. Hi All! Good news, just got notice that my I-129F has been approved! I know we have to get married w/in 90 days of my fiancee's entry into US using K1 visa. I'm looking way ahead here but once the K1 is issued, how long is it valid?
  19. On all the application forms where a signature is required for the alien fiance/spouse, what language should their signature be? Is it English or their native language?
  20. Thank you all for the reassurance. I got the RFE and it was because I forgot to answer the question about criminal conviction. I simply checked "No" and signed/date the question again. Whew!
  21. I was checking my I-129F status on USCIS web site and noticed the following, which has me a little worried: Request for Evidence On May 27, 2014, we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence or information in this case I-129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the requested information. This case will be in suspense until we receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once we receive the requested evidence or information and make a decision on the case, you will be notified by mail. Anyone ever gotten this? I called the hotline and the person on the phone says they do not know what additional evidence is being requested so I have to wait for the letter. The person did mention something about I-797E form. How far will this set me back on my application? I'm a little frustrated,,,
  22. Evolution of relation ship letter is required by the American citizen or both parties?
  23. Hi Dan - I heard CR-1 applications take longer and are scrutinized more than K-1, have you heard anything like that? I wonder if it's true...
  24. My fiance in China has a valid tourist visa that expires 8/1/2014. I plan to submit I-129F/G-325A in a couple of days to get the K-1 fiance visa process rolling. My question is, will it jeopardize anything if she visits on her tourist visa during this time? Thank you!
  25. @blue.rock what's the name of the program? Where to download if it's not obvious? Thanks for sharing!
