  1. The visa that she seems to have in her mind is a tourist visa not spousal visa that you are asking about. All of the requirements that she lists are need to visit here on a tourist visa.
  2. Speaking of hiccups...my wife has given me the only remedy that works... Take long, continuous sips of bottled water while breathing through your nose and the hiccups will disappear.
  3. http://elcomercio.pe/player/1384898 After my wife viewed this video today, she commented "See, that's why I no lika live with Chinese. Chinese no help fish. Chinese catch fish, cut and sell..." She's said it many times that when times were hard for her and her son early on here in America, the only people who would help without asking for something in return were Americans. And I don't mean to paint Chinese with a broad brush, as those among our group of friends now understand our golden rule and go out of their way to be charitable. When the dog eat dog, everyone for themselves attitudes are taken away, Chinese are as hospitable and giving as anyone I know.
  4. My wife, Leiqin, and her son Ning and I attended Good Friday services last night. We will attend Easter service tomorrow morning and then attend an after-church potluck where there will be foods prepared by the multi-cultural members (36 different languages, so far) of our church.
  5. I prefer Avast! over AVG. http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
  6. OK, can we use you to convince our wives that we won't die from fan death after all?
  7. I wonder what type of gun the bandits had and where the acquired it. A bit strange for China.
  8. I haven't spoken to my wife in 6 weeks. I didn't want to interrupt her.
  9. That is such good information! Wish I knew of this way back when my interpreter arranged for his "special" taxi service to drive me back to the Nanning airport. He drove me in a way roundabout route that I instantly knew wasn't the most direct route. And, then he got pissed that I refused to give him a tip. At least the interpreter canned his taxi service. Kim's post ought to be put somewhere in How to not be taken for a ride while in China for new persons starting out on this venture.
  10. And, when you ask her what is her age, she will always ask you to guess. And, always best to 'guess' a very young age.
  11. I'd wager the judge will give ex-wifey community service for first offense. At least if they're anything like California justice. And, 40 hours of community service can seem like a life sentence to some - believe me, I know. She best hope that she doesn't spend the next 4 to 8 Saturdays wearing an orange vest picking up trash along the highways.
  12. Doug, there's such a small pool of men our age available to help these unfortunate women that I simply thought that this might be a win win situation. Charles, give Doug sis's email address and let the two of them talk. Doug, let us know how it goes.
  13. I can guess.............hahaha! By the way Larry, is he available? Yeah, hook Doug up with sis.
  14. When I lived in China I was often told that a female was a "woman" if she was or ever had been married. Otherwise, she was a "girl." Even if she was 60 and never married. She was an "old girl." I recall an expat that lived a floor above me was dating a young girl, only in her early 20s. I remember a conversation where another Chinese woman, upon learning that this girl had been divorced, stated, "Oh, she's a woman, then. She knows what she wants." Similar to Seniora vs. Seniorita in spanish, I guess.
  15. Fortunately, recent English speaking arrivals here have not taken such offense to my colloguaial use of English, but tend to want to learn what are our different meanings and use of words. Maybe, different when living and interacting in China. Reminds me when I first met my wife, Leiqin, and how I thought that it would be endering to introduce her as "my little wife" yet, I did not know, and no one told me, that the translation of sha lao po meant "my inferior wife" (or second wife).
  16. I live within and among the largest Chinese area within the US. Happily, I don't see this here. I believe that, once here, they quickly learn what is accepted as appropriate behavior. I also believe that other chinese teach and probably admonish those who attempt to carry on those China behaviors here. And, don't think that those Chinese who live within this area the more well healed. I often wonder how beggers and winos got here. Dennis, I know you are in So Cal, but where exactly? Do you live near Monterey Park? Before I moved to China, I spent a month in that area immersing myself in the culture. I loved it there. Also spent time way out in Pomona (sp?) at Cal Poly Tech in language training. We were living in Alhambra and now live close to Chinatown downtown LA. I believe Monterey Park is something like 95% asian now. You can actually drive for miles down Valley Blvd and seldom see a non-Asian face or business. Yes, MOPA was a good place to immerse yourself. As far as those disgusting behaviors back in China, I also believe that once here they understand that hawking lugies in public places could get them arrested. Yep, piss and water is everywhere inside a Chinese supermarket restroom.
  17. They didn't say anything about using little tiny finger cots as condoms. But, maybe that too will be added to the list soon. Who are THEY that write this? I am guessing that this was interpreted from a Chinese post? Sounds a bit of sour grapes towards the west, as they've missed the simple point that Lin is Asian. Period. And, that there are few to nil Asians who've excelled in the NBA. And for any Asian, especially a 4th string bench warmer whose coming out show outplayed and outscored Kobe Bryant 38 to 34. To come out of literal obscurity to consistantly show that he belongs with the elite NBA point guards is completely without precedent. THAT is complete LINsanity that will continue to spread throughout the Asian world as long a Mr. Lin continues his unprecedented play.

  19. I should try it again sober.

  22. Good riddance; discussions of what "ought" to offend people aside, this was just plain stupid. Chink In The Armor... Double entendre was just too tempting to ignor and pass up. Personally, I think that it was a fitting and funny pun. But, society says that those jabs at any non-white person by someone white cannot be tolerated nor accepted, as it was and has always been us whites who've been the oppressors. Sins of our fathers...sadly, we all cannot just smile and poke fun at each other today. Maybe tomorrow will be different.
  23. So, can you tell us why the reason for your inquiry, Jesse? After what you've been through, many of us are hoping that something good comes out from it all.
  24. ESPN editor, Anthony Federico, was fired. End of story.
