  1. Gale, Wow that was fast. And a big congratulations to you and your family for having everything completed. Ella and I just applied for Kelly's passport before we left for Shanghai and had no problem getting the passport. 3-4 weeks Kelly's adoption will be complete and she will have a Indiana birth certificate so she wont need N-600. 4. The day my wife took her oath for Citizenship she and my stepdaughter applied for their passports and they received them today. If you don't want the citizenship certificate for the step child and don't want to spend the 225.00 fee just get the passport. Will be heading to Shanghai 6/5 for 3 weeks to visit the inlaws. No more fees to USCIC !!!! Tine
  5. tywy, Kelly became a citizen by her mother becoming a citizen. So I applied for her passport at the same time as Ella. If every thng goes well we will have their passports in two weeks. I am in the process of adopting Kelly at this time and she will have an Indiana birth certificate. Tine

  15. Ella passed her Citizenship test and interview this morning. The whole process took about 15 min. Out of the 100 questions on the test the IO asked her the 10 following questions. 1.Who makes the Federal laws in the US ? 2.What is the supreme law of the US ? 3.Who is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court ? 4.What are sone of the basic beliefs of the Declaration of Independence? 5.Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner ? 6.What did the Emancipation Proclamation do ? 7.Where is the White House located ? 8.In what month is the President inaugurated ? 9.Can the Constitution be changed ? 10.Name 2 Senators from your state. Asked to read a sentance and then write the same sentance. Asked all questions at the end of N-400 and then was asked to swear she would support the Constitution. Then they asked to show my orginal birth certificate and orginal marriage certificate and her GC. Then told her congratulations that she passed and her oath ceremony should be in about 3 to 4 weeks. 17. Ty, Ella is known well at Wal Mart as well. I thought Ella was the only one that that checked her receipts so close. But you are so right they should check. Hope to update everyone next week on Ella's Citizenship interview. We feel very lucky that since the "black hole" ended our visa process has gone well. Tine
  18. tywy, Ella read the story to me and she laughed so hard because it sounds so much like her when seh goes to Wal Mart. We have had more fights over small errors on the receipts, I tell her not to worry about it but she insists she needs to get the refund. Tine
  19. Gale Congratulations to you and your wife on her citizenship. Hope to be posting soon on Ella's interview in a couple of weeks. Tine

  22. Gale, Derivation of US Citizenship as a Minor through Naturalization of One or Both Parents Derivation means that the minor automatically becomes a citizen when the parent or parents naturalize. There is no requirement for the minor to apply to the USCIS for citizenship, instead the minor can apply directly for a US passport. After February 27, 2001: The child must be unmarried; The child must be under 18; The child must have at least one US citizen parent (by birth or naturalization); The child must be currently residing permanently in the US in the legal and physical custody of the US citizen parent The child must be a lawful permanent resident of the US; and If adopted, the child must satisfy the requirements applicable to adopted children under US immigration law. The child can still do an N-600 to get his or her certificate if they please. Tine
  23. Hi Pat & Li, You can apply for citizenship after three years if, during that time, you have been a permanent resident and have been married to and living with a U.S. citizen It doesent matter whether you got your green card through this marriage. You will however, need to stay married through your citizenship interview. If I read correctly Li must have lived with you for three years in the U.S. Ella purchased a book 3rd Edition Becoming a U.S. Citizen A Guide to the Law, Exam & Interview By Attorney IIona Bray author of Fiance & Marriage Visa 342.083 BEC 2006 you can also find this at library. Tine
  24. Congratulations Catherine and Gale, It has been a long road but now you both are almost finished. No more fees to pay. No more waiting. We are behind you just about a month. Ella's has her appt. for her interview in a few weeks. She is doing the name change also. Let us know how the swearing in is complete. Tine & Ella
