  1. It's too boring, no challenging to date someone of your own culture: after 30 minutes talking, you know his culture and background, his history, current, his future and your future, you can even figure out how much hair he has on his body, nothing to explore .
  2. I've listened to many of Na Ying's songs. She is very sentimental and it seems men always betrayed her. She smokes two packs of cigarettes each day - maybe her men stay away from the ash tray?
  3. It's very very frustrating when a man writes you tons of love poems and never addresses your concerns for a future together and never mentions any actual planning for a future together. Can it be considered emotional disorder cuz this man is always absorbed in his beautiful poems?
  4. Dennis, A Mafan: Did your ex sing this song to you? It's a beautiful song.
  5. Talk to her in a peaceful way: what behaviors are not acceptable or even list them on a piece of paper. It doesn't matter how you treat your mom. Mom can tolerate everything, Mom can swallow the shit, but you need good behavior, good EQ to get along with people, to build up a future, a successful career for yourself. I talked to My Little Ingrate when she was 11 to 18 (8年抗战!) and it seemed she didn't understand it at all. When she was 19, she understood it at last. When she is 20, she understands it very well, amazingly.
  6. Bill, your wife got pregnant when you barely had time to learn to live with each other. Language barrier, cultural shock, home sick, not easy for a woman of your wife' s age to cope with. She is not an independent western woman. Give your wife a Chinese cultural relief of 3 months. Her family in China will also enjoy playing with your son, but nobody would be so stupid to spend huge $$ to get him a Chinese citizenship It's so difficult for a woman to raise a child in China (unless she is highly educated and has a successful career), it would be more difficult to raise a little American citizen . Talk sweetly to your wife on the phone or Skype when she is in China. She will miss you and the American comforts when she is in China. By the end of 3 months, your in-laws will be happy to see you come to take your wife and son home .
  7. In my time in 1982, colleges were so few that only 4% of the highschool students passed gaokao. Somehow I was among the 4% but my brain was severely damaged by the knowledge my teachers drilled into my head . If I piss you guys off, don't take it person - it's gaokao syndrome or gaokao sequela
  8. I got the information from "Milkmen" Doug posted here and we are planning to modernize our country this way...lol... that's the first step for modernization: start from the cradle with a baby
  9. You are a modern country and you have Milkmen to feed your babies . In China, especially in the country we do weird things like women breast feed babies . We even have a saying "the one who has milk is Mother" (you nai bian shi niang)
  10. In 20 years when the orphan becomes a young man, it's sort of embarrassing when someone mentions "This is the lady who breastfed you 20 years ago". I fed the son of my former colleague 20 years ago which was normal in those times. I'm glad nobody remembers it or mentions it now.
  11. I noticed women of my generation barely have any hair on the legs at all. I will find some hair for you on your wife's legs if you provide a microscope I grew up eating vegetables and rice, barely had meat to eat. My daughter is different. She needs to shave her legs.
  12. I donated RMB300 and I asked people I know to donate to Red Cross. My mom called telling me not to donate blood and I said "No, no more" - it's not because I don't want to but I take medications for sinusitis for a long time and I don't think my blood is good enough for donation. No more I can do. They have military people, firemen, medical personnels there. Common civilians better not to travel to Sichuan to bother them. The worst of China's nightmare was Tangshan quake in north China in 1976 which was a much much worse situation and crazy Mao even refused help from outside China. 240,000 people died but many could have been saved if we got help. I always tell myself: the worst of the nightmare is over. Right now we have resources to handle a disaster and there is help available but it's much a different situation in Mao's time (China had nothing then).
  13. I'd say: If I die before we have a life together, you find an ABC in your neighborhood, much easier. If I die, I feel no pain any more. It's the living persons who struggle with pain, guilty, self-accusation.
  14. Death IS a tough thing to handle. Tears in Heaven http://www.ben4.com/html/3/200510/20/18.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRsJlAJvOSM Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven? Would you feel the same if I saw you in heaven? I must be strong and carry on 'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven... Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven? Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven? I'll find my way through night and day 'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven... Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees Time can break your heart, have you begging please£¬begging please... Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven...
  15. Public buildings like schools and hospitals collapsed cuz it's "beancurd project" (dou fu zha gong cheng). It's not strange in China that builders bribed officials involved so these public buildings are of poor quality.
  16. I'm gonna transfer a few hundred RMB to the account of Red Cross. I trust other organizations less than Red Cross.
  17. When the torch was passed through Guangzhou, it seemed everybody was crazy, and it's pretty easy to get influenced by the crazy atmosphere. If anyone tried to destroy the torch, one million Chinese would attack him without any hesitation. People complained later the star Lin Zhi Ying looked ugly on the streets but looked nice on TV due to the photographer B)
  18. Like expatriates in China: China has nothing but laborers, streets too dirty, food too funny, people too rude....... Some topics and behaviors are developed in some conditional environment: My friend worked as a translator when they built DongGuan nuclear power station, she told me all the wives of the expatriates were gossipping, compared her husband with someone else's husband, whose husband made more money......
  19. My close friends are: someone who shares my value, have similiar background or educational background, someone who was there for me when I survived the darkest age. Life time friends. Guys come and go, girl friends stay forever. You guys think we are all yellow-faced women but we identify ourselves different. Southern women think northern women too hot tempered and northern women think southern women too practical. City women think country women not fun, country women think city women too arrogant. Some women highly educated, some women barely write Chinese at all. Nothing in common except yellow skin and they happened to on the same land of US. Just like both sheep and goat are "yang" to us, but you guys said they are different.
  20. Chinese pronunciation has an "a" or "i' in the end of a word unless we were taught otherwise in other language egga, aska, studenta, airporta, muchu, Eunicie, washie, facie....
  21. You guys are not eggs. water face = wash my face (or get my face washed), so you can figure out "have regular facial skin care in a beauty parlor" Some people do have problems pronouncing "bang", you tell her it's pronounced like "ban°à"
  22. Taiwanese and Hong Kong people think mainland Chinese are rough, country people. Overseas Chinese (especially older generation) hate mainland Chinese for what Commies had done before 1980s.
  23. Actually it's the same in Guangdong, China. When I was with HR, we only hired "qualified", "not over-qualified" people. (same philosophy when you seek a man or a woman )When I applied for a job online, I got very few responses. When I sent a hard copy of my resume with photo and copy of my qualification based on the ads of newspapers, I got very high responses.
  24. When the majority of our farmers and residents in the old section of the cities are not poor any more, when our people in manufacturing don't have to work their ass off like 31 days a month and 10 hours a day for "Made in China", when our women stopped asking you guys for a few hundred $$ a month, when the hookers on the streets are as fewer as in Japan, we'll ask ourselves "Are we a superpower anyway?" It will take decades.
  25. If I were the mother of the 19-year-old boy, I'd hate that woman to death. My 19-year-old boy was supposed to continue his education instead of running away with a woman 10 years older than him, and it would break my heart to see my 7 grandchildren living in the cave
