1. There are bad consultants and good consultants in Guangzhou. The bad consultants don't know what they are doing. You have to use your knowledge, experience, sense to judge and choose a good one. If the consultant speaks Chinglish, sure s/he will fail to convince VO to issue a visa. If such a consultant wins a case, then that's pure luck. There are other ways to judge a consultant or an attorney is good or not, which I leave with you guys.
2. Hey guys/gals. That part about paying for airline travel. Say im in usa, and im just a bit strapped for cash, and I get a real good deal for airfare. so my wife, who is in china wires it to me. Would the VO be bent if they found that out? I mean seriously, I was saving for the ticket I knew I was gonna have to buy anyway, but for what I paid that was the only way to do it. I might add, I am impressed a woman from china can wire that kind of money. I always was under the impression chinese people were kind of poor. Thanks. 189613 Provided the relationship is genuine, it doesn't matter you or your SO pays for the flight ticket. Just keep the evidence and tell the truth. Easy.
3. Also, when I think of the major cities that chinese ladies originate from, it seems to me to be: Nanning, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen... none of which are in Fujian. What can you say about Fujian and the dense location of chinese woman looking for foreign husbands? And is Fujian the only one looked at closely? 189550 DavidZixuan, Thank you. 1. There are more fraud cases from Fujian as they have relatives or ex who entered US illegally before. For the same qualificatons, a lady from Fujian tends to get denied and strictly questioned, a lady from other place tends to get passed. I met a couple (lady from Fuzhou, Fujian) in May 2005 and I found out their case was already returned to DHS: interviewed in March, blue slip but the lady didn't know how to prepare docs to overcome the denial (You cannot blame a Chinese lady. She has no idea what's Income Tax Return. It's beyond her ability and knowledge to convince VO she is different from a fraud case.) The lady has a sister who entered US before and has legal residence now. The couple met online but VO thought the sister-in-law was helping. It's really hard time for the couple who got their dreams crashed without mercy. I encouraged them to file another K3 and she is going to have her interview in March. South China city Taishan also have fraud cases - 2nd to Fujian. 2. I think Guangxi was the first place where women started actively to seek American men and it used to be easy to get a visa. Women from other cities started to learn as they think western men treat women nicer. Chinese women feel foreign cultures interesting. Langauge barrier n cultural differences sometimes make relationship interesting. It adds chemistry sometimes. In some inland cities, people'd say you are out of mind to find a man online.
4. Agreed. Thanks and welcome Eunice. It's good to have you here.... 189528 I too have to say that her advice and sense of humor is awesome!!! In addition, she has given tremendous insight on understanding her culture and their thinking. This help has been invaluable. I for one truly enjoy getting a different perspective from our Chinese family members here at Candle!!! As I mentioned in one of her previous threads, and I will say it again. This time just a little bit louder. WELCOME SMILINGASIA!!! :clapping: 189535 chef4u, 1.Life is too short to be serious. I mean on the same shoe, you can see one side Nike and the other side Addidas-))))) a pair for a few dollars 2. Age difference of 20 years is not a problem. Age difference between 30 to 40 years is a minor problem which can be overcome by solid evidence of a genuine relationship. 3.Income Tax Returns and Affidavit of Support (I-864 for CR1, I-134 for K1 or K3) should be submitted to the Immigration in US. If not, submit them at the interview. From April each year, they'll ask for Income Tax Return of the last year. In April 2006, they'll start to ask for ITR of 2005. If the figures on ITR is less than 125% of poverty guidlines, papers of your properties, qualification certificates (diploma, training ceritificates for English n computer skills) of the applicant and explaining letter may help - it works. The point is the applicant will not become a public charge.
5. VOs are experienced. They got well trained. VO is not a policeman. Policemen are infamous here. I'll tell you a joke: A farmer drove his donkey to downtown. Donkey walked through red traffic light. Farmer was fined RMB50. Farmer got mad and burst out to Donkey:"Whom you think you are? a policeman?!" Only policemen can drive through red light here. At the interview, VO can see your bright smile and happiness when talking about your husband or fiance. They also can see it on the pics. In a fraud case, the expression betrays the applicant: distance when talking about the petitioner.
6. DavidZixuan, It's very difficult to catch one-way fraud. The beneficiary's friends and relatives know that but the petitioner is the last one to know or never knows, and it's very difficult for VO to catch evidence when the petitioner is fully supporting her. In May 2004, I gave a petitioner in Huston some hints:" VO kept a pile of your remittice slips. You have made the image that your SO needs you more financially rather than physically." I also gave hints to the applicant as I saw the applicant's ex was spending the petitioner's money, but the applicant didn't understand. She got mad:"You said VO is protecting a US citizen, then why she denied me twice and didn't want me to join him?" Her VO was a white lady. The VO is kind and the blue slip was "I want to see the two of you together communicating in your language." The applicant got passed. In some situation I think it's better to keep my mouth shut.
7. jim_julian, I've been helping people to overcome visa denials since 2003 in south China, Guangzhou. Worked with non immigrant visas before that. My date and I haven't decided to live in Guangzhou or New York. There are many people who are more authoritative than me but they are not able to express everything in your language. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions, to the best of my knowledge and understanding. Eunice
8. skibum, You are right. 30 years of age difference is a minor problem which can be overcome by solid evidence of the genuine relationship or communication skills. Eunice
9. CFL members need to take this topic VERY seriously. It's a real problem that the US immigration system has to deal with every day. The best way to avoid heavy scrutiny is to: 1. Communicate frequently. 2. Save copies of all communication with your partner; email, phone call logs, and letters. 3. Take lots of photos depicting the two of you together. Include names, dates, and location on the reverse side. 4. Save your boarding passes, receipts, etc., for proof of visits. 5. Visit your partner in China as many times as you can while waiting for the interview. Most agree the more trips the better. A single trip is usually more heavily scrutinized. Note: If you and your SO lack a common language, e.g., she does not speak English nor you Chinese; be prepared to make a video tape of the two of you together communicating....ShaQuaNew, You are right. 30 years of age difference is a minor problem when you have solid evidence to prove the genunine relationship.
10. Very informative!! Also, I am still laughing at your additional information, ie; "Save budget for one Nike and one Addidas". 189471 Funny! I've got 2 pairs just like that! Also, I think that the money thing must be an important factor. Someone was blue-slipped recently for documentation on how they paid for the air travel. We hardly have any Nobel Prize candidates among us, but I think it goes without saying that it requires a pretty hefty budget. Someone who couldn't otherwise afford the expense, might catch some attention. 189480 Yes, the figures on the Income Tax Return is very important. If the figures are not so good, the petitioner will be asked to provide evidence who paid his trips to China. VO is also a "no money, no honey" creature:)))) But I have a friend who is a Fugitive Recovery Agent and they let his SO pass when the figure is $12,000 + other docs and explaination When I mentioned Nobel Prize Winner, I was kidding. Human life is too short to be serious. Anyway, I saw one Nobel Prize Winner, an 82-year-old guy married a 28-year-old girl. Everybody thinks it's esier for them to pass. But Black Pearl denied a 42-year-old woman 4 times in the summer of 2004 coz she married an 82-year-old guy from New York - she passed finally. VO also take age difference into consideration.

12. Why VOs are so incredible sometimes? First, understand why there are fraud cases: 1. Petitioner helps to bring a relative(the applicant) or a friend to America so they pretend to be lovers. 2. Petitioner gets paid for bringing an applicant to America so they pretend to be lovers. At the interview, they are to check the two(2) motives: 1.A Caucasian man is not a relative of a Chinese woman. (That's why I didn't dye my skin color or hair, and didn't get cut a double eye-lid otherwise I'll look like a relative of an American:-))))))))))) I have saved the budget to buy a pair of sports shoes with one side "Nike" and the other side "Addidas":-)))))))) 2. How did you meet? A. On net. Ok, you only need an English vocabulary of "pee, poo, money, honey" to pass:-))))))))) B. Met by matchmaker? What? How much you paid him/her? Why he introduced him to you?....... (A petitioner who has won a Nobel Prize is not likely to make money this way, easier to pass. Both petitioner and applicant have a Ph.D degree - they are not likely to do such things, easier to pass.) 3. VO usually ask questions regarding the data on the forms you filled up. Consistensy is import.
13. I have seen a case killed by "a man who helped her is very nice". Two years, the applicant is still crying in Guangzhou!!! If the instruction says: mail everything to Guangzhou, then mail to Guangzhou. I have noticed the Immigration system is a big automatic machine: If one procedure is mis-operated, everything goes wrong. Ask your SO to resign from the CPC, now, for the purpose of immigration, to be family-oriented. She doesn't have to maintain higher income now. Get the proof and attach an explaining letter, provide her name, case number, birth date, mail to Immigration Unit, US Consulate in Guangzhou. Make everything in clear English. Keep on pushing Guangzhou. Guys, if your SO is a member of Communist Party of China, ask her to resign now. At the interview, if she is asked whether she is or has been a member of CPC, the answer is NO. This is the only time you have to lie and beg the forgiveness of God. If the VO or their staff asks why you are in this position without being a CPC, the answer is "I'm a min zhu ren shi (party free, or democratic person). I have a friend who is a deputy Mayor but he is a min zhu ren shi, not CPC. God bless you. Eunice 189126 SmilingAsia; Here's one of the few times I have to disagree with you... You have to answer "who are or ever have been" on the GNI-2 as well.. now the lie grows to two places. We're fairly unanimous in our advice to NEVER lie to the US Government... maybe with the chinese government, the attitude is a little different for chinese... I respect your postings and we benefit from yours and your continued help here.. but I'm not sure we benefit from this idea. --- We've had people pass with known employment, or past, with CPC... just give GUZ what they ask for and don't make it any more complicated. here's some references: Communist Party Issues http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10946 189130 DavidZixuan, I know a woman in Guangzhou. The family had visa interview 2 years ago. The husband's sibling was the petitioner. Both the husband and wife were CPC and they were asked to submit additional documents. Somehow the husband got passed, but the wife was instructed to submit more docs. She was instructed to send everything to Guangzhou but mis-guided by a bad agent, she sent everything to Washington and the time limit of submitting docs in Guangzhou expired. When asking Guangzhou consulate, they tell her to do as intructed on the slip. When asking Washington, it responded with $$$$ and she sent checks but the checks are untouched when she checked her bank account. The husband and son are in US now and she is still crying in Guangzhou. I don't know why the consulate hate CPC so much since Mao and Roosevelt fought with each other. I was in the hell created by CPC from 1964 to 1979 but I don't hate CPC. What Mao did to the people is not the fault of current CPC. Eunice
14. Wolf, 1. You make an appointment with the consulate for submitting docs to overcome denial. Your wife can buy a prepay card from her local Citic Bank, there are RMB54 or RMB36 cards available. They charge for making an appointment. Prepare the following information before making a call: 1). Her passport number 2). her name, both in Chinese and pin yin, her birthdate and ID number which are on her passport 3). Her Case Number which begins with GUZ 200....., Visa category (CR1, I believe) Date of denial Then their call center will give her an Appointment Number and the date to submit docs 2. She will get the result in two days. The result is possibly to be: 1). Ok, red slip, she can pick up her visa in two days 2). They want more docs or any stuff they can brainstorm 3). The case be returned to DHS 4). Depends on the OV
15. rhour, XinHui has a British visa (or Schengen visa) on her current passport, right? The current Pearl is among the nicest VO's in Guangzhou. Eunice

17. Looking at the world through almond eyes: I'd like to share with you what I know about your consulate in our good old Guangzhou. I want to expel the myth. The myth came from language barrier and our cultural differences. When Chinese is translated into English it may get twisted and vice versa. I have noticed, several times, on the blue slips what the VO wrote in English and the Chinese staff wrote in Chinese are different versions!!! One thing we got confused. The "black pearl", Jie's VO, is not the infamous former Black Pearl whom I believe left when the consulate was relocated in Aug, 2005. The new "black pearl" is said to be friendly and she is among the nicest VO's in Guangzhou. I got completely defeated by the new "black pearl" on Oct 24, 2005. My client didn't really understand what the VO said in English and she just answered yes and no. When the VO explained why she denied her and would return the case to DHS, my client said "thank you" wo tu xue!!! The former infamous Black Pearl is <name deleted>. Chinese women think she looks a bit like Secretary Rice. <name deleted> issued lots of blue slips attached with yellow slip. That's her style: I don't believe your relationship is true. You brainstorm a way to convince me. I believe in evidence and consistency. The first time I overcame the denials of Black Pearl was in the fall of 2003. Two angry American men got stuck in Guangzhou as their fiancees visa got denied twice in one week, but they got visas finally. Applicants didn't have to make appointment for submitting docs to overtime denial in 2003 or 2004. The last time I overcame the denial of Black Pearl was in May 2005. <anem deleted> was tough but she is reasonable. Please note she was in a circumstances where there were lots of fraud cases and the capacity of the consulate was too small on Sha Mian Island, Guangzhou. They really didn't have time to go the details at the initial interview. Overcoming the denials of other VOs was amusing, humorous, entertaining, but overcoming the denials by Black Pearl was challenging, exciting, nerve-racking!!! I have to addmit, Black Pearl has extremely high IQ. I believe the former infamous Black Pearl left before Aug 2005 when the consulate moved to Tian He, Guangzhou. I really have missed her....lol.... Each applicant only saw the VO at the initial interview, so they thought the new "black pearl" is the infamous former Black Pearl (<name deleted>). In my categories, Wolf's case belongs to the one which has lots of work to do but low risk. Eunice
18. americken, Yes, dispel the myth! The myth came from our cultural differences: Chinese applicants may have different communication ways with Black Pearl and American guys got the myth from their SO. Looking through almond eyes, Black Pearl has very high IQ when she is in a circumstances where there are lots of fraud cases. You got the visa coz you deverve it. Jie is very smart by asking "Do you want to see the pictures?" - present the right evidence at the right time! It's easier for the VO to see a genuine relationship is genuine by looking at your eyes on the pictures. Wolf's case maybe quite different from yours. People's backgrounds vary. The applicants' communication ways vary. I believe he has conflicts with the documents (you can tell this by the VO kept some of his docs) and the answers at the interview confused the VO (you can tell this by the VO wanting a video tape showing the whole family welcome the Chinese in-law) , but there is solution to straight it out. Eunice
19. 1. The infamous Black Pearl is smart. She has very high IQ though I had to fight with her for my clients. 2. Both K1 and CR1 are not really difficult provided one is not faking. There are more fakes among CR1's than K1 as those fakers think CR1 is safer. You English-speaking guys want it faster so you filed for K1. Take it easy, guys! Eunice
