  1. No one told me I had to change shower soap!
  2. RLS your fiance is from Nanning. So is mine. She had it mailed to her home and it arrived 2 days later. If you wait in Guangzhou you might get it in 2 days, or you m'ight not. Just pick one and go for it.
  3. GUZ 4th floor coffee shop I saw a twenty something chick puffing away on a cig. Saw the same chick 2 days later at the same shop puffing away again.
  4. I'm depressed living in America and I was born here.
  5. She gonna go into shock when she opens the fridge. Right now I have a couple dozen bottles of water, some ketchup, orange juice and I think maybe some miracle whip. First priority after she arrives will be to go down to the asian grocery store and stock up on whatever catches her fancy. I havn't a clue as to what would be good to buy in advance.
  6. Thx Ken! I'm just a bit stressed thinking about how i'm gonna be able to do all this. My work prevents me from having the opportunity to take her to any ESL classes. Living down here on the south end puts us pretty far from those areas where the asians are at up near federal and alameda. And we're not close to any community college either. We do have Cherry Creek High School within walking distance and I know a Chinese lady that teaches Chinese at the school. I will discuss this with her and see if she also has any suggestions. I will be contacting you as soon as I get her here and we get a bit settled. I think the priority will be to get her drivers license so she can drive her self to these places. Hopefully english isn't a requirement for getting a license in colorado. Considering every other car is a mexican, we shouldn't have any trouble. You can also have Li call Jie and talk to her, Jie will help her feel more comfy here, and kind of fill her in on life here, websites that she can talk with other chinese, etc, etc. As for the drivers test, Jie found some places online that she could study that were in Chinese but were from a different state. She can get a license without speaking english, but the problem is, unless she can read english or chinese, the test will be difficult. For example, Jie understood all the driving laws and rules, but when she took the test, it had many words and phrases that she was not familiar with, and thus it confused some of the answers. The other thing, is if Li is not experienced with driving, it may take longer than usual for her to learn. I know you are stressed, but dont worry, it will work out and she will do ok. All I can say is, you guys endured a very lengthy visa process, right now, just take some time out to enjoy each other, get to know each other, let her feel loved and that you are by her side, and all the rest will fall into place in due time!! Oh for sure she can drive. WOW she's drives like a nascar driver. I feel sorry for anyone who gets in her way.

  8. You got it. Sounds like a very good order. We did SSN before I-485, so the order doesn't have to be perfect. I have always been told SSN is easiest if done within 70 days. Congrats on the marriage. Yes some very good info by many of you. I will go to the doctor/dentist with her and guide her through the process and to be sure she is taken care of. Basically will do for her as she did for me in China.
  9. Thx guys So I pretty much have to correct order in which to proceed? 1. Marriage 2. I-485 3. SSN 4. Bank/ID/Medical
  10. I'm a bit confused as to what should be done about her last name and passport. We will get married May 11th. She will take my last name. After that then I will get an ID for her and get her on my bank account and medical insurance. Then file for SSN with new name. But what about her passport. How will she be able to travel if her name is not the same as on passport?
  11. Thx Dennis. Very good point. Our love should help us endure just about anything. I'm actuall looking forward to the challenge.
  12. I'm curious to know what other on here who have fiance's/wives that are limited in English are able to cope in America. I keep thinking about how difficult it's going to be for my future wife to do so many things that I take for granted. Her English basically sucks at this point and this has me thinking. 1. Being able for her to "repeat after me" at the marriage. 2. Doctors 3. Dentists 4. How do you go out for dinner? She has to either trust that I can order what she wants. Or be sure the menu has pictures. Will she go into shock when there is only one plate of food sitting in front of her? Everytime we ate out in China we had about 5 different plates of food on our table. 5. Introducing her to my friends. All these things will leave her feeling very uncomfortable and I'm worried about this. I would really like to find Chinese speaking doctors and dentists but Denver doesn't exactly have large chinese population.
  13. When I tell my fiance she's beautiful. She says, "I know".
  14. Walk out of the Consulate. Turn left, walk to the corner. Turn left, walk 1.5 blocks. You will probably see a lady sitting on the sidewalk holding an infant. She was there 24 hours a day during my last trip to Guangzhou. And it was very cold end of jan. I could never see what she looked like because she would keep her and the baby covered up with a blanket. My fiance refused to let me help her. I don't know the situation in China if those panhandlers are the same as in the U.S. and just looking for enough cash for their next bottle of booze or not.
  15. Please forgive my ignorance, but what is ACH? American Citizens Hour
  16. Hey Don I'll put you up for a night if you don't mind crawling out there and washing the windows... Just remember that rooftops grow . . . Not to worry Randy...All the taller stuff is being built to the East of our building...Everything in front is individual private houses of 2 to 6 stories...As you know when you go over 7 stories in China you must have an elevator...We are on the 13th floor... Nice windows! Now about some furniture.
  17. We stayed in an apartment directly behind this new Hotel that is being built. Those guys are working on it 24hrs a day. Needless to say I hardly slept at all during my past trip. Also no heat SUCKED!
  18. My fiance needed some dental work done last year. I sent her $200 to help her out. Unexpected expenses are difficult for her since she only makes about $200 per month.

  20. 2 questions: Where's the plug? Where do I put the tea bag?
  21. My little finger over the first knuckle was what I used to size my wife's ring (she had given me a string which she had tied around her finger - then I sized it on my own fingers). This came out 1 size too large - the correct size I think was 5 1/2 - I just measured it at 1.6 cm., which matches your table exactly by diameter. I will take the ring in the size she has indicated and a roll of white first aid tape to adjust the size. We can have it resized when we get back to Nanning. Nice! Better to be too big then too small I suppose!
