  1. Congratulations! It seems that Guangzhou is handing out early Christmas gifts. No what are your plans?
  2. Agape = Love (translated from Greek to English) Love beareth all things, believeth all things, hapeth all things, endureth all things, Love never faileth. 1 corinthians 13 7-8
  3. Drew, This post reminds me of the guy in the middle and one angel on the left shoulder whispering good stuff in his ear and the devil on the right shoulder whispering bad stuff in his ear. No offense to the other people here posting but¡. Granted, you posted your info here to get some different options/help and you got them. Plenty of them too! In fact all of the replies make good sense to me but I'm not the one going through this! My feeling on what you are going through right now is very much like a divorce. But you haven¡¯t even gotten married yet. You have to go with your own gut feeling. Period! No questions asked! Do I stay here or do I go there to visit. Only you know and should do what you think is right. If you take the advice of anyone else then later down the road you will be regretting it. If you take your own gut feeling then you have only yourself to blame. Then try in your own mind to project yourself in the future with or without this women and you will know what your true answer is. Go with your own feelings! Period!!!!!! P.S. When I asked my wife to come to my city, I asked her to come visit me and not get married. If she liked in fine if she didn¡¯t she could go back. Of course I would have been heart broken if she left but that¡¯s the chance we had to take!
  4. What a great story and thanks for sharing it. It kinda reminds me of me of my wife¡¯s interview. The guy interviewing us was an immigrant too with a real strong accent. I could barely understand him let alone my wife who was learning English. He left us alone in the office to check on something and that¡¯s when I suspect they turn on the camera and microphone (his office was bugged) and watch and listen from a different place. He came back smiling to let her know that she would be receiving her green card in a couple of weeks. Merry Christmas to both of you!
  5. Great Job Emma (ok - you too Bobby!) Welcome Home to TEXAS!!!!
  6. Bobby, You couldn¡¯t ask for a better Christmas present than that. I am so happy for the both of you. Take care and have a safe trip back and hope to see you both soon. Merry Christmas! Andrew, Maggie n lil¡¯ Alex p.s. I hope you got the house REAL clean!!!!!
  7. Suck it up. It will happen! Family ties are stronger everywhere. My mother who is from Europe would go at a heartbeat if someone was ill and things didn¡¯t look good. I always say that you need to go visit them while they are still alive and not just for funerals.
  8. In Texas you can get these shots FREE for anyone but pssst, keep it a secret so nobody will hear. We have enough people coming here for these. We do have them here and you have to wait 2-3 hours due to the all of the people (illegal aliens, Katrina evacuees, low income) that also come for the same reason that you stated ¨C no insurance or low income. ¡°Children who qualify may also receive free vaccines that bring them up-to-date with the recommended immunization schedule. No reservations are necessary.¡± - Houston Children's Vaccination Alliance Announced Oh! Excuse me while I go pay my taxes!
  9. In case you don¡¯t know it¡ a LOT and I mean a lot fish, shrimp and crab are now imported from China. I see it all the time in the major grocery stores here locally. Next time you go ask and they will tell you where it¡¯s from!
  10. Jim, Thanks for sharing¡ Above all it is highly important to her (and you) that her parents not only support her in her divorce but also the forth coming marriage to you! She will definitely be a keeper! Isn¡¯t she supposed to be coming pretty soon! Good luck! Andrew
  11. My wife goes down to Chinatown (Houston) about two weeks before the American New Years and gets the fancy calendars with the real nice picture in them for free! The banks, supermarket and distributors usually have them. B)
  12. I saw this post a few weeks ago and I wanted to add to it so here goes for those of you who want to know! Job searching for anyone is difficult, but added to the fact that that person has newly arrived from a distant country is even harder. My wife received her Masters from a US college and was still intimidated by her job searches and interviews. On several occasions she would tell me about how they discriminated against her and how often job politics came into the picture. Let¡¯s face it, you have an office full of women, of course they would single you out as the new hire especially if you¡¯re a ¡°foreigner¡± coming into the company. Women are worst then men with it comes to office gossip. The jobs my wife often found was those working for Chinese in a Chinese company. She would feel comfortable because they would speak they same language, eat the same food and relate to the same problems. Of course this doesn¡¯t help your wife trying to learn English either. However Chinese employers seemed to be the worst when it came to discrimination. If the company was owned by Taiwanese then you¡¯re discriminated if your from mainland China. If it was owned by mainland Chinese then they think that you can not find a job in an American company thus paying lower wages than American companies pay. I often heard how they would also turn down applicants because they were from Taiwan. I can go on with other problems that she ran into however bottom line is what another writer mentioned here ¨C CONFIDENCE. Give you wife the time and confidence that she needs to find the right job. I would always tell my wife that she was better than what they would offer her and to pass on it and look for another job. This happened many of times. Give you wives that confidence and she will find the job she enjoys doing and come home happy. Happy Wife + Good Job = Great Home Life
  13. It sounds like you have all your ducks in a row and you also have your head screwed on right! I had a divorce attorney once tell me ¡°There is no friendly divorce, someone always comes out hurting¡±. I wish you all the luck and hope for the best for your future. Based on your writings I am sure that you will be able to carry on without her.
  14. In China, it¡¯s not what you know, it¡¯s who you know. Let¡¯s not forget the about those in the government positions - officials can get papers forged with the original government seal applied too! All it takes is money!
  15. Lack of hair under the armpits mean lack of sweat glands. Lack of sweat glands means lack of smell, Lack of smell means lack of deodorant. Lack of deodorant means your wife is saving you money! and you didn't even know it!
  16. DO NOT give your father-in-law a watch, clock, or any other type of time piece for a gift... it means your time will be limited on this blue planet, earth. Andrew B)
  17. Sure not, unless you want to see your own action movies in bed Just don¡¯t put it on your ceiling¡uuhmmm I remember reading an old Confucius saying. Man who fly upside down have hairy crack up! Or was it a woman¡ I can¡¯t remember because I¡¯m Confucius. Andrew B)
  18. Hey, we did that¡! The good part was that after a month you go out to a real nice restaurant with family or friends and celebrate the birth of your child¡ your treat! Andrew B) p.s. The bath part is due to the type of birth she may have had ¨C cesarean or natual
  19. Rule number one had already been instituted in my house. Rule number two works well only if you don¡¯t have kids running around wanting water and food after hours. Now my wife wants to hang red lanterns in our new house for good luck. Of course being born and raised in this country you know what it means if you see red lights from the street.
  20. For those of you who don't know what Feng Shui is - Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art for homes and businesses, interior design and decorating. Here are some items of importance that I have learned in the past. I know that you can look these type of items up on the Internet, but I want to know what your SO has taught you. And for those others who are waiting for their SO, remember you’re in training in this one! And then again some of you have not had any training yet so read up before your SO gets here! Please keep in mind these are just important to your SO just as we have taken the approach of not walking behind a black Cat or walking under a ladder… or better yet – DON’T BREAK A MIRROR for God’s sake or you'll have 7 years of bad luck… So here goes some of my list: 1. Don’t buy a house on the end of a street – bad luck 2. Don’t plant a tree in front of you front door – bad luck 3. Don’t buy a house whose stairway faces the front door – bad luck 4. Put a mirror in the front entrance way to send evil spirits back on their way – Good Luck 5. Post a RED good luck symbol on your front door – of course good luck! 6. Your house must face North or South – not east or west. 7. Before you buy a house you should consult a Chinese median to see if the spirits are good! 8. Don’t buy a house whose previous owners a) divorced bankrupt c) died there. So share your Feng Shui training with us and please contribute because inquiring minds want to know! Andrew B)
  21. It's because we have BIG... .... .... ... .. . Ten Gallon Hats B) Andrew NO. Because you have BIG Ten Gallon women! What did I last.....maybe, 24 hours? Jealous?
  22. I was onced asked by an ex-Chinese girlfriend if we needed to change the air in the tires? Andrew B)
  23. Sounds like she has her visa and is here - if so, file a Change of Address with the USCIS. I think that most of the mail from USCIS is marked "Do Nt Forward", so you will need to keep them current. You are correct sir! Andrew B)
  24. We have tile floor in different parts of the house and my wife insists that we wear sandals while in these areas. When I questioned her about this she would say that if you don¡¯t your heart will be cold. Now I have heard of a lot of BS growing up like ¡°don¡¯t step on a crack or you¡¯ll break your mother¡¯s back¡± and the one about not crossing a black cat¡¯s path because its bad luck. I am curious to what some of our SO¡¯s are telling us that may be related to the ¡°old country¡±. Please share these with me ¨C inquiring minds want to know. I have some more that I will post later. Andrew B) p.s. ¨C no Feng Shui items¡ we will save this for another post!
