Thanks so much David, now I understand why you are using the chinese name. That makes sense to me now. Well, I will be mailing off our package today. It is a pretty thick binder of papers and we spent a lot of time on it all and I feel like we have the I-751 covered real well because of all the great information on this site. Hello DAVID, Thanks so much to you and everybody else on here for your great help. I wanted to make for sure I understood the name part on here. You have to put on the check the "chinese national name" and then the bottom of the cover letter looks like it says the same thing. I basically copied your letter, but I used my wifes name with my last name. Her chinese name is Yilan WANG and her name we go by here is Yilan REED. I have the I-751 all done with all the supporting documents and was ready to mail it off, but now I am getting a little confused about the name to use on the cover letter and I made a nice label for the folder all the paperwork is in as well, but I used Yilan REED on everything and that is what is on her permanent resident card. Can anyone give me the correct name usage? Thanks Ed

My wifes welcome letter came this weekend. My wife got her christmas present a few days early. Dec. 22 nd, her green card came in the mail! We did not expect it to come so fast after the interview which was on Dec. 12 th.. Things have moved along at a good pace since she got here.

My wife loves to catch fish. She says she really likes it the most because it is something we can both do together and get some fresh air. I just drive her crazy when I fillet some of the fish. She just moans that I am wasting so much meat. And the first times I cleaned some fish for us she would not let me throw away all the heads either. We still have those bass heads in the freezer. Can't wait to deep fry those big bass heads. Does anybody know the best way to get batter mix to stick to the cheeks and the eyeballs?

We went to Indianapolis for the interview yesterday and the wife was approved for the green card! She was so happy and relieved. The lady officer asked us a lot of questions. Most questions were basic. The only time the sweat really broke out is when my wife got a little nervous and told the officer her birthday wrong. We laughed about it later, but I just about fell off my chair when it happened because my honey had asked me so many times to make sure I could remember the date right. The officer put her face very close to the papers and then said "Your birthday is when??" Then my sweety said, "OH!" and told her correctly. The officer looked thru all the papers checking the birthdate and then asked for our birth certificates and wanted a copy too. The officer smiled and said something about everybody being a little nervous. She wanted our marriage books and certificates and bank records and wanted other proof of our living together. The officer looked over my last 3 years of tax records very closely too. I would say the interview took about 15-20 minutes. We had everything that we had already sent in before from the very beginning of the visa process and copies. Even though it means taking a lot of stuff you most definately need to make copies and take everything. She remarked that I was very organized and everything looked good and you are approved. The officer had apparently looked over our pictures very closely before our interview as she made comments about the size of our wedding party and how good it looked. My wife told the officer that she had just given her the best christmas present of the year and then wished the officer a merry christmas and happy new year! We want to give a very special thanks to all on this site that helped us when we had questions. I used an expensive attorney for the visa and then after we found this site we decided to not use one to continue and did not need one thanks to all the people on here so kind to offer advice and past experience and tell you what you need to do. We give another very special thanks to Tine Martin and his family. What a great help. Thanks so, so much for all your help. This spring you will have to come to visit and we will catch some of those fish I have been telling you about. Merry christmas to everybody and have a happy new year!! My chinese honey and I are looking so much forward to spending our first christmas holiday together. Christmas is less than 2 weeks off and we are going to finish our decorating tonight in our house. Each of my wife's papers include a statement that '...the translated document attached hereto is in conformity with the Chinese copy.' The lack of a statement of fluency hasn't been any problem for us. However, some have argued, in the past, that we have been lucky. The DOS (GUZ) statement is that the translations are 'certified by a competent translator' and the USCIS is asking to show that the translator is 'fluent in both languages'... it may well be semantics and thus the notarial translations one got for the consulate are usually used for the adjustment interview (we had no problem). If anyone has had a problem with using them at an adjustment interview.. please state so. Thanks for the comments. After talking to another member of this site who lives in my state, he said that if the documents have the official stamps on the papers that there will be no problem as they had no extra or special form to state that the translator was fluent in both languages. On all our documents that are translated there is a number also associated with the translators name, like a badge number or something. All the documents do state that the documents are all in conformity with the chinese copy. Thanks again.

The last thing on the list of items to bring that is on our notice of action form is: A certified English translation for eash foreign language document. The translator must certify that s/he is fluent in both languages, and that the translation in its entirety is complete and accurate. We were married in China so those documents are all translated plus several more. My question is, no where on any of the documents does the translator have certifed that s/he is fluent in both languages. She is a notary and varifies that everything is in conformity with the original and these are all NOTARIAL CERTIFICATES. Do we need another paper stating that the notary is certified fluent in both languages? If so my wife need to call China and get something made up and sent to us as our interview is Dec. 12th. Since our files was transfered to CSC, it has been stuck there for almost six months. Who know what is going on? I am really running our out my patience. Hunter, We went for our appointment last friday and all went well. They said we should get what we need for social sec. # in a few weeks. Hunter, I read that your wife got the learners permit right away after you got the social sec. #. I called our BMV office and we need birth certificate or passport with the soc. sec. # to get learner permit. My wifes birth cert and passport are in her maiden name and we filed all paperwork in married name. what did you use to get your wife's learners permit. Thanks.

My mother thought it was okay! :-) We have our paperwork ready to send for adjustment of status. I was up till midnite last nite to try to finish everything up. I am going thru everything one more time and then I will put in this monster of a pile of papers in a big manilla envelope and send it priority mail with delivery confirmation. My wife is anxious to get a social security number so she can drive. Thanks for all the help to everybody on here. We had a great visit from some other members at our house this past weekend. So it took right at 2 weeks after mailing everything to Chicago to get the biometrics appointment. I thought it would take a longer to get that, so we are pretty happy. Ed and Yilan Reed
