  1. Thanks so much David, now I understand why you are using the chinese name. That makes sense to me now. Well, I will be mailing off our package today. It is a pretty thick binder of papers and we spent a lot of time on it all and I feel like we have the I-751 covered real well because of all the great information on this site. Special thanks to Tine Martin and his wife Ella who we call on the phone occasionally for information and to just to talk to. Thanks so much to people who care. Ed and Yilan Reed
  2. Hello DAVID, Thanks so much to you and everybody else on here for your great help. I wanted to make for sure I understood the name part on here. You have to put on the check the "chinese national name" and then the bottom of the cover letter looks like it says the same thing. I basically copied your letter, but I used my wifes name with my last name. Her chinese name is Yilan WANG and her name we go by here is Yilan REED. I have the I-751 all done with all the supporting documents and was ready to mail it off, but now I am getting a little confused about the name to use on the cover letter and I made a nice label for the folder all the paperwork is in as well, but I used Yilan REED on everything and that is what is on her permanent resident card. Can anyone give me the correct name usage? Thanks Ed
  3. My wifes welcome letter came this weekend. My wife got her christmas present a few days early. Dec. 22 nd, her green card came in the mail! We did not expect it to come so fast after the interview which was on Dec. 12 th.. Things have moved along at a good pace since she got here.

  5. My wife loves to catch fish. She says she really likes it the most because it is something we can both do together and get some fresh air. I just drive her crazy when I fillet some of the fish. She just moans that I am wasting so much meat. And the first times I cleaned some fish for us she would not let me throw away all the heads either. We still have those bass heads in the freezer. Can't wait to deep fry those big bass heads. Does anybody know the best way to get batter mix to stick to the cheeks and the eyeballs?
  6. We went to Indianapolis for the interview yesterday and the wife was approved for the green card! She was so happy and relieved. The lady officer asked us a lot of questions. Most questions were basic. The only time the sweat really broke out is when my wife got a little nervous and told the officer her birthday wrong. We laughed about it later, but I just about fell off my chair when it happened because my honey had asked me so many times to make sure I could remember the date right. The officer put her face very close to the papers and then said "Your birthday is when??" Then my sweety said, "OH!" and told her correctly. The officer looked thru all the papers checking the birthdate and then asked for our birth certificates and wanted a copy too. The officer smiled and said something about everybody being a little nervous. She wanted our marriage books and certificates and bank records and wanted other proof of our living together. The officer looked over my last 3 years of tax records very closely too. I would say the interview took about 15-20 minutes. We had everything that we had already sent in before from the very beginning of the visa process and copies. Even though it means taking a lot of stuff you most definately need to make copies and take everything. She remarked that I was very organized and everything looked good and you are approved. The officer had apparently looked over our pictures very closely before our interview as she made comments about the size of our wedding party and how good it looked. My wife told the officer that she had just given her the best christmas present of the year and then wished the officer a merry christmas and happy new year! We want to give a very special thanks to all on this site that helped us when we had questions. I used an expensive attorney for the visa and then after we found this site we decided to not use one to continue and did not need one thanks to all the people on here so kind to offer advice and past experience and tell you what you need to do. We give another very special thanks to Tine Martin and his family. What a great help. Thanks so, so much for all your help. This spring you will have to come to visit and we will catch some of those fish I have been telling you about. Merry christmas to everybody and have a happy new year!! My chinese honey and I are looking so much forward to spending our first christmas holiday together. Christmas is less than 2 weeks off and we are going to finish our decorating tonight in our house. She was a lot of fun to take to look at decorations for the house. Thanks to all. Ed and Yilan Reed
  7. Each of my wife's papers include a statement that '...the translated document attached hereto is in conformity with the Chinese copy.' The lack of a statement of fluency hasn't been any problem for us. However, some have argued, in the past, that we have been lucky. The DOS (GUZ) statement is that the translations are 'certified by a competent translator' and the USCIS is asking to show that the translator is 'fluent in both languages'... it may well be semantics and thus the notarial translations one got for the consulate are usually used for the adjustment interview (we had no problem). If anyone has had a problem with using them at an adjustment interview.. please state so. Thanks for the comments. After talking to another member of this site who lives in my state, he said that if the documents have the official stamps on the papers that there will be no problem as they had no extra or special form to state that the translator was fluent in both languages. On all our documents that are translated there is a number also associated with the translators name, like a badge number or something. All the documents do state that the documents are all in conformity with the chinese copy. Thanks again.
  8. The last thing on the list of items to bring that is on our notice of action form is: A certified English translation for eash foreign language document. The translator must certify that s/he is fluent in both languages, and that the translation in its entirety is complete and accurate. We were married in China so those documents are all translated plus several more. My question is, no where on any of the documents does the translator have certifed that s/he is fluent in both languages. She is a notary and varifies that everything is in conformity with the original and these are all NOTARIAL CERTIFICATES. Do we need another paper stating that the notary is certified fluent in both languages? If so my wife need to call China and get something made up and sent to us as our interview is Dec. 12th. Thanks for any and all help! Ed and Yilan Reed
  9. Since our files was transfered to CSC, it has been stuck there for almost six months. Who know what is going on? I am really running our out my patience. Hunter, We went for our appointment last friday and all went well. They said we should get what we need for social sec. # in a few weeks. Hunter, I read that your wife got the learners permit right away after you got the social sec. #. I called our BMV office and we need birth certificate or passport with the soc. sec. # to get learner permit. My wifes birth cert and passport are in her maiden name and we filed all paperwork in married name. what did you use to get your wife's learners permit. Thanks.

  11. Hunter, Did you do your biometrics in Louisville? Congratulations on everything moving along so fast, that is great!
  12. Thanks so much Lee. You are making me feel better real fast. We are meeting some people from this site this weekend and so excited that we met them here and now we will spend some time together. They have already went thru the paperwork we are now doing and are going to give our papers a good look over saturday and then we should be able to send everything off next week. We are excited. Thanks so much to everybody for making this such a very helpful place for all us going thru the process. Ed and Yilan Now you got me real worried, you are going to actually associate with CFL members? I thought your mother taught you better than that!!! My mother thought it was okay! :-) We have our paperwork ready to send for adjustment of status. I was up till midnite last nite to try to finish everything up. I am going thru everything one more time and then I will put in this monster of a pile of papers in a big manilla envelope and send it priority mail with delivery confirmation. My wife is anxious to get a social security number so she can drive. Thanks for all the help to everybody on here. We had a great visit from some other members at our house this past weekend. Thanks again and I will let you all know how it is going. Ed and Yilan Reed We got notices on our paperwork and a date for next Friday(Oct 27) for biometrics at Louisville, KY. So it took right at 2 weeks after mailing everything to Chicago to get the biometrics appointment. I thought it would take a longer to get that, so we are pretty happy. Ed and Yilan Reed

  15. We went to the doctor yesterday and it was quite confusing. We asked for just the vaccination suppliment. The office manager looked at our booklet that comes from GZ from the medical exam and also the shots he got and said he needed to do the blood work over because GZ did not do one of the tests.. they said we did not need to do the TB test because we had the chest X-ray .. they charged us 255.00 for office visit, paperwork and bloodwork. Probably could have found cheaper somewhere but I didn't have time to play around looking for best price options. I got into a arguement with the doctor because he wanted to do a TB test and charge me another 120.00 but I wouldn't let him. It says right on the form if you have a chest x-ray you do not need the TB test. Yep, sounds like the wonderful government appointed civil surgeons. They seem to see this as a way to gouge their patient legally. The first ones I checked with were listed on my insurance. They said, "We can only do the full exam, no exceptions." So imagine my surprise when I found one who did the I-693 supplement at no charge!!! Of course he got the name wrong the first time and had to redo it, but I didn't complain. Spend some time on this site and use the search feature when you have questions. You spent way too much and went to a doctor that just did not treat you right. After researching on this site and getting some private emails and even eventually talking on the phone with some we ended up at a good civil surgeon that treated us right. I called so many off the list I had and it was unbelievable what some said they "HAD" to do and then what they would charge to do it. Makes you want to scream.

  17. We have most of the papers ready for our I-485 and I-765. My wife just got her 693 supplement done Monday. Thanks to some good people on this site giving us the office number of where they went to here in Indiana that went well. I am confused about the G-325A I need to include with the I-485. Maybe I am not too confused, but my head just spins sometimes when I keep looking at these forms and I want to make sure I get this right. My wife did a G-325A while she was still in China, totally different than what it should be now after we got married in her home city and we were working on the k-3 visa. Now she is here in the USA and we have to do this form again. I think we should put her family name as my last as we are doing on all the other forms. I assume the file # is the A# or Alien Reg. No.. Her city and country of residence would now be our address here in the USA. Under applicants residence last five years. List present address first, I would like to put our address here in the USA and then her China address as before that. For her employment she would have "none" at present and then list her last 2 jobs before that. Then in the box that says "This form is submitted in connection with application for: I would believe we should check the box for Status as Permanent Residence. Then as far as signing I would think she should sign with her chinese first name and my last name and we put her name likewise in the bottom box and put her A# in the place for Alien Registration Number. And I guess she should still as before put her chinese characters in the name box below the box for signiture of applicant. Thanks to any and everyone for any advice or help. This site has helped me a lot already and maybe I am just getting confused and having doubts about this form and making it too hard. Thanks for helping. Ed
  18. The category is based on the status relative to the filing of AOS. If filing PRIOR TO AOS filing: K1 = a6 K3 = a9 If filing CONCURRENT with AOS filing: (Same if Filing EAD AFTER OR RENEWAL) K1 = c9 K3 = c9 There's a default category for the visa classification, Family based Non-Immigrant..upon entry you can file prior to AOS based on that default status, a PRIOR filing as shown above; Once you file WITH the AOS, you are Adjustment of status based, not default based... (edited post since I originally put wrong defaults for K1 and K3 as c6 and c9; their default on entry is a6 and a9, respectively) David, On question 14. Manner of Last Entry(Visitor, Student, etc.) would "K-3 Spouse Visa" be correct? and on question 15. Current Immigration Status(Visitor, Student, etc.) would "Adjustment of Status I-485 filed xx/xx/xxxx" be correct. Thanks for all you help, Ed and Yilan Reed This is a seemingly easy question, which I'll probably make too much of... and then in the end, say that it probably doesn't matter, as long as you put something that is close to correct... I e-filed our EAD, AFTER AOS FILING; so clearly, we are "AOS pending"... but the self generating e-form listed our Q.14 as blank and our Q.15 as "Alien Fiance of US Citizen" , although she was clearly in the US and pending AOS (also all the questions about her entry dates and locations were left blank... If I were filing this form out directly by hand (and just answer questions from a computer which would generate the form), I would of filled in Q.12-Q.15 as follows, but you can call the NBC and get a person to talk you through it as well... Q.12 - put date of entry at POE Q.13 - List POE location Q.14 - Put Visa classification (K-1, alien fiancee of US Citizen; K3, alien spouse of US Citizen) Q.15 - Put Visa classification (K-1, alien fiancee of US Citizen; K3, alien spouse of US Citizen) My guts says that if you put some form of "AOS Pending" in Q.15, it would be fine since you put in Q.14 the visa classification. I'm thinking that using the visa classification [as the status] is better than saying "AOS pending" since it's not clear to me that "AOS Pending" is a regulatory classification.. rather a 'conferred' permission to 'stay' and not be unlawfully present in the US, based on an AOS filling. Technically, I believe you are K1 or K3 till the I-94 expires and then are out of status ; the I-94 governs your non-immigrant status 'stay' in the US and when you must leave... but if you file AOS, you are authorized to stay in the US till the process completes... But it's clear they want a different category based on filing prior to concurrent/after AOS... and that one you MUST get correctly. I've seen RFEs for not getting this right... person lost their application money as well, if I remember... Thanks David. Ed and Yilan Reed

  20. We thought we would spend part of the day to work on I 765 and a few questions pop right up. On I-765 on question 14. Manner of Lst Entry ( K-3 Spousal visa)...would that be correct? and on 15. Current immigrantion status (Adjustment of Status I-485 filed xx/xx/xxxx)...would that be correct also? I will call the Civil Surgeon that is the closest to where we live tomorrow and ask about the 693. My wife has no documentation of vaccinations from China so I am wondering if we have to get those done. Thanks for any and all help. Ed and Yilan
