  1. My wife has been here for a little over a year now. All she makes is other chinese friends. Even though their english is perfect, she just wants to talk in chinese to them and they speak chinese to her, she doesn't even try to improve her english. She always wants me to go with her so I'm stuck with a bunch of people that don't want to speak english, then my wife gets mad at me 'cuz I don't look happy. I have been trying to improve my chinese for the last 2 years, and even went to college for one semester. But when I try to speak chinese to her, she gets mad at me, complaining that she needs to learn english and asks why am I trying to learn chinese and flat-out refuses to teach me anything. So, my question to you is: what do you do in a group of people that only want to speak chinese, you can not add to the conversation, you can't comment on anything they say. Do you just sit there and wait for the evening to end? Or do you just let her go on her own and let her do her own thing while you stay at home? Any help would be great, Thanks
  2. The interview is this month in Detroit, what kind of questions will they ask. Can anyone recommend a hotel near by, shopping, a chinese market maybe? Thanks
  3. So this is just for fingerprints, photo and signature, it doesn't indicate if the papers are okay so far?
  4. Got this letter today for an appointment to "capture her biometrics". I am assuming this is just her fingerprint, this is not the interview?
  5. Is there a website that I can go to and check on the status of our AOS, EAD and AP or do I need to call them direct? I have the receipt numbers now for all 3.
  6. I have an appointment next week with a caseworker regarding the free training MI is willing to pay for my schooling. I will know more about this then but I am still leaning towards driving the big rig. We have talked a lot about after I drive for awhile and the company allows passengers, she would love to come and see the county (albeit from hi-ways only).
  7. Moving is easier said then done. I do have the advantage that I don't own a home but I did sign a lease for 1 year. Unless I lie on a job app, I can't get a simple job delivering pizza or flip'n burgers. The 152 job apps that I have filled out the last 2 months shows that it's a hard market here. MI has the highest unemployment rate right now so I have even sent my resume to different states and even drove to one 16 hours away for a job interview that was a no go. My next step is to drive an 18-wheeler. I know I will be away from home 2 weeks at a time, but ya gatta do what ya gatta do . . . .
  8. What if I ate food yesterday... can I just not eat today ? Yup, if you have been through a divorce like mine. But it was just a silly question. Just wondering not bother asking my mother if she could be a sponsor but she said it was okay. I make pretty good money, I just hit a hard spot now with the economy.
  9. Here's a good question thou, if I am laid off, but my last years tax show more then the 125% would I still need a joint sponsor to resubmit?
  10. I will be able to use my mother to do a joint sponsor but a little confused on the directions. In part 1, would she be the joint sponsor or e, the first joint sponsor Part 4, 19. asks for proof. Would her passport or drivers license work? Also a little confused about Part 5. She has her own residence so how should she answer that? If she answers 1 on a) then that brings the total to 2 on h), but she lives alone. Part 6, 24. does she check d) since I will be filing my (our) I-864 with her joint I-864? Thanks,
  11. Mmmm kind of sounds like I am screwed here then. This is why I wanted to wait till I go back to work, 'cuz when I file, it will look like I was never laid off. BUT she wants it as soon as she can so she can get out of the house and feel useful by even having a part time job. The problem is that I don't have anyone that would sponsor us. I don't have any friends that are close enough for something like that, my father passed away 4 years ago and my mother didn't like the idea of me getting married to an "non-american". I mean, she likes her, but still holds her doubts. But we have found a way to get the money to file for the AOS fee. She is selling her camera and all her equipment. Being a professional photographer she has some very nice lenses. It will be more then enough to cover the cost. I hate to be brutal here but based on this it seems you have problems on several fronts that are much bigger than paying the AOS fee. I know that there are a lot of problems, but sometimes it is better then being alone. Sometimes I feel that I am that battered woman you see on Cops, married to a drunk abusive husband that doesn't want to file any charges 'cuz she claims "i still love him'. She even told me that the money she is getting from selling the camera is enough to get a ticket back to china. But you know I still feel in my heart that we can work on this. I find it hard to believe that a man will wait in china for 10 years for a plan work out like that. There is a lot I look at what she did, said and how she acted when I was working. Yes, her whole attitude has changed since I was laid off but she won't admit it.

  13. Not really sure I understand and it really doesn't make sense. She wants the green card to go to work. Why would I need to prove I can support her if she is working.
  14. Yes, that is why in one posting that I said "yadda yadda yadda" when she tells me that she read something form 001.
  15. I will be refiling the I-864 but I am still laid off. On page 3, should I state that I am "D. unemployed"? I was laid off in Nov but can still use the figures and tax return I used when I filed for the I-134. Just seams silly if they don't issue a greencard, she really wants to go to work to help me out in this tough time.
  16. Technically, the child will be a US citizen born abroad. But I hope that she can make it before the baby is born for less paper work. Congrats ! ! !
  17. When I was at the airport in Guangzhou, I met a man that was just returning home from a 2 year teaching job from Xi'an. I couldn't believe that they would even let him teach, he had a really bad stutter and a lisp.
  18. As you can see from my time line, we mailed out the AOS, AP & EAD on 1-20-10 but she wants me see if there is a number that I can call to see what the status is. She wants to start some kind of work soon, she is getting bored sitting around the house.
  19. Like many people, her last name became her middle name since she didn't have one, but if I knew then what I know now, I would have NOT changed it. Ok, looks like we screwed up then. We were talking with an attorney and she advised us to list her married name under "Other names used" My wife does want to take my surname, but I'm guessing we'll have to wait until we get to the US and file the I-90 along with our marriage certificate. Is this correct? Stinks that I could of avoided spending the fees it will take to do this. Possibly, I would first mention this to consulate before interview by email, or at interview. Other options are I-90 after entry to the USA, or if married less than 2 years upon entry, and you get a 2 year conditional care, you may be able to file to remove conditions using married name. Name change.. yet another hurdle. Wife wants to take my name, but from what i understand we need to use the name that is in her passport for the visa application, correct? so, we have already filled out and she has signed her G-325a with her current last name. We are hoping we want to change her last name once she arrives.. Any thoughts on this one?
  20. In addition to phone records, emails and other things, some simple ideas . . . send a card or small letter in the snail mail 2 times a month (so it'll have the post mark) and when you go visit, take more then 50 pictures of the two of you together. Turn on the date stamp on your camera.
  21. I see that it only took you 2 1/2 months from the time you filed AOS to getting your approval, I hope it goes this fast for me also. ! ! ! Congrats ! ! !
  22. I made a copy of all the pages from her passport. I remember they wanted every page of my passport booklet when I filed my K-1 petition. My question is, can I or should I staple them all together or just us a very large paperclip?
  23. In the 3rd part, line 1, "date of intended departure", can I just leave this part blank? If I do need to put a date, what is the time frame? 6 months, a year?
