  1. Target has 2 - one about $25 (metal rods and plastic ends) the other around $70 or $80 made of wood. We're also using a regular book shelf with narrow shelfs that I already had.
  2. Yeah - I think you have all the advice you need right here.
  3. I was armed with copies of the links you had provided earlier, just in case he didn't! Thanks, Frank
  4. The SS #'a are very useful for a number of things - identification, insurance, bank accounts, they're required for a TDL - yet the SSA won't give you one without the work authorization (this comes with K-1 whether stamped or not) unless you provide a letter from the government agency that requires it. By this time, you're probably already turned down since you don't have the number. K-1's come with that little 90 day work authorization - so I felt it very important to jump through that hole while I could. Not very good cooperation here between DHS and SSA.
  5. Well, except for the number. We went to the Social Security office yesterday. After waiting (in line) for an hour and a half, the guy looked at her passport (only) and said "Do you have an Employment Autorization?" (I had checked the Employment box on the form). I said , "the K-1". He said, "okay!". He said we could get the number on Tuesday (after New Year's) by coming back and waiting in line again, or just wait a couple of weeks for the card. That's all it took.
  6. http://bergoiata.org/gif/Feu4.gif Congratulations !! Hey! You said 5 o'clock
  7. Nope - THEY don't. NVC simply forwards the case to GUZ, who will schedule your interview AFTER the P3 is returned to them. Just a poorly worded pre-canned response.

  9. That's my impression also - you simply check the box for the type of visa you want. For contact information, I simply gave them Jiaying's information. No letter of invitation. For same day service, they could not have verified the information.
  10. If I remember correctly, someone posted that it was for a work-related visa and NOT the K's.
  11. What you (pushbrk) say about proof of ties to China is correct. However, siblings stand a much lower chance of being approved. Parents are almost always the only relatives to get the visitor's visa.
  12. Check this out: Tine's list The odds of actually getting it are in the 20% range
  13. except that iTalkBB would REPLACE your existing phone service, providing you with both a US number and a Chinese number for free calls FROM China, if I am reading it correctly. Is someone familiar with this service?
  14. Jiaying found an ad in one of our local Chinese papers for a broadband phone company which provides you with a local Chinese phone number. Does anyone have experience with iTalkBB? What is iTalkBB? iTalkBB (iTalk Broadband) is dedicated to serve the global Chinese community with the state-of-art broadband phone services. iTalkBB Global Unlimited Plan Monthly Charge: $24.99 With iTalk BB Global Unlimited Plan you can make unlimited phone calls anytime to anywhere in US, Canada, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, plus more than 20 countries worldwide for only $24.99 a month.* Including unlimited free incoming calls from China. Like the freedom of unlimited calling worldwide and receive unlimited calls from your friends and family in China? This is the best you can get! Your choice of area code Unlimited local and long distance calls to 20+ countries in the world Unlimited incoming calls from China to your assigned China phone number No additional tax and fees Free Advanced Features: China Phone Number iTalkBB Phone Card Caller ID Call Waiting Call Forwarding 3-way Calling Call Flash Transfer Call Hold * Including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vatican City¡£ Except for US, Canada, China and Hong Kong calls to mobile phones are not included in this unlimited plan. It also says: Offer expires 11/30/2005. 30 day money-back guarantee, so try out our service risk-free It's unclear if the Global Unlimited Plan expired, or the 30 day money-back guarantee. The next plan is the Residential Unlimited - $19.99/month, and 2 cents/minute to China, making it less competitive with OneSuite.
  15. Keep records of your phone calls. Save the expired phoine cards and/or the receipts for the purchase. The OneSuite 800 number is 3.3 cents to China. Very cheap for a call-by-call log. Adequate (even if just barely) record keeping counts for WAY more than good reasons for none. Best wishes for the overcome.
  16. Get married, Fred!!?! Check out the difference between married filing jointly, and filing single, and you may decide to change the date.
  17. My best holidays ever. Merry Christmas to you and her VO, and everyone eelse at GUZ.
  18. This is true of Yahoo Messenger, also. Be sure to set up Archiving under "Preferences", "Archiving". And then go in and save each archived session as a text file to make sure you don't lose any. (This gets it out of the default archive management). I entered in English, my SO in Chinese - we each translated the other's messages. In Internet Explorer, select "View", "Encoding", "Chinese - simplified" - this applies to Yahoo as well. I also took occasional screen snapshots of the web cams to show her at the computer. Just print out the Archive listing (or keep your own record if you want to show the times you were connected), and a small stack of the actual transcripts.

  21. Doesn't Doug's story pretty well answer that? While she may be allowed entry with the K-3 (with a cooperative IO), it might be safest to get a visa before going. Seems like K-3 and CR-1's are in the same multiple entry boat here.
  22. I believe that the K-3 is a multiple entry visa, is it not???
  23. Doug just got back. His wife is a brand-new K-3 also. Doug and Amy's trip
  24. Keep your fingers crossed - at least GUZ is admitting it's in their hands.
