  1. "Resident alien for tax purposes" affects only the income (and how it's taxed), not the actual period of residency. Unless the K-2 child had income of his/her own, it would not make any sense to do so. The child must have lived with you for at least 6 months of the year, regardless of how you treat his/her income.
  2. Yeah - that's exactly what I think they mean by "English"
  3. Most English names for Chinese places are exactly the Pinyin representation of the Chinese names. Some are not, such as Inner Mongolia
  4. Hey, you're there, Bill! Congratulations! Yes she'll get an unconditional green card, good for 10 years.
  5. Randy what are you saying, that a K-1 can get work even if they are not work authorized. As far as I know you aren't suppose to be able to work and get that SS card until the AOS. But you did say rumor watch, please explain some more. K-1 is ALWAYS work authorized, guy. Go to the SS office and get that SS within 10 to 75 days of arrival. The work authorization expires after 90 days, again with or without the stamp. The story about work authorization through JFK only is a MYTH - nothing more. What you get is a nice little stamp that you can show a prospective employer.
  6. Rumor watch - the K-1 is work authorized, with or without the stamp. You may work, you may get a Social Security card, whether you have the stamp or not. Some employers may like to see the stamp, but it does not carry any privilege that the other POE's do not provide.
  7. And what pray tell is a TRP ? as opposed to a visa... Jeeze, Roger you're really on a tear these days. What's up? http://english.gov.cn/2005-08/27/content_26727.htm
  8. The guard was correct - American citizens are allowed on the 5th floor at any time simply by showing their passport. You must go to the American citizens' area on the right. But if you can catch her eye, motion her over to the area in front of the restrooms (which are common to both areas). You can then hand her anything you wish. And congratulations!
  9. I think I read somewhere that they will actually keep your file open for up to a year. Delays aren't good, but things happen. The extensions are automatic, as needed.
  10. Thank you Randy. May I ask what is Dr stands for in the address? all the best to all of us ling Drive. I think that normally they would not use words like district or province in the address. Or use dist, for district if you need to
  11. Also, you seem a little unclear where I added the bold. The green card expires after 2 years. You apply to remove conditions within that 90 day window before the expiration of the green card. NOT 2 years after your wedding date.
  12. I know they have Chinese abbreviations for the province names, like Guangxi is Gui, but that's not what you're asking.
  13. http://i28.tinypic.com/2mruqv6.jpg Congratulations !! http://i1.tinypic.com/3ygwmdz.gif
  14. http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/koppe...highlights.html 4 parts - Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat
  15. There's an additional factor here. Before he can file the CR-1 and K-3, he must go to China (Aug 2008 on his current plan) and get married. The K-1 can be filed now.
  16. This same website has a lot of Chinese language tools http://www.mandarintools.com/ If you can cut and paste or in some other way enter the character, this same website has another page to look up the meaning of a character. The one I use is http://www.mandarintools.com/worddict.html
  17. If you just absolutely can't wait to be married, go the CR-1/K-3 route. If you just absolutely can't wait to be together, go the K-1/fiance route. Aside from the administrative considerations
  18. Dependents (who are also filing to remove conditions) are listed under part V of the I-751. A separate biometrics fee must be paid for each applicant. If you take the I-797C form to the ASC, they will keep it and mail you a new one with a re-scheduled date. You can also mail it. The I-797C gives both the ASC address, and the address to mail it to. In our case, they were the same address. Others have done this, so someone should be able to tell you what you should see on the application receipt - they need to be extending both green cards.
  19. It's left to right, top to bottom, but you're right - it's not easy - the order and direction of EACH stroke matters. To draw the ¿Ú character, you draw the left side first (top to bottom), then the top and the right side in one stroke (from upper left to upper right to lower right), and then the botton (left to right). Never draw a stroke going up, or to the left.
  20. By radical (characters are formed by different parts), by the pinyin representation, by number of strokes (this one is the easiest for me), or use character recognition software. The dictionary should tell you which methods it supports.
  21. Congratulations - get that K-2 AOS application in NOW.
