1. Just one quick question. Now that Im married and will be filing a joint tax return... Is there any other form that I must submit when filing with my new wife? . She has a SSN so we dont need a W-7 form. Im assuming I can file head of household and have two exemptions and thats about it since she never worked here in the States yet...
2. Yesterday my wife and I had her AOS interview here in Dallas. The interview was easy and the only hestitation was when she asked my wife the dreaded COMMUNIST PARTY question and my wife answered YES.... Then she had to print out a sworn statement and sign it and then the nice lady had to check to see if we needed the 601 waiver form as well...Thank god, we didnt need this form!! Thats another 265 bucks......so after that , she said it all looked good and that we should be processed within 90 days and that we will get a letter soon telling my wife where to go for her fingerprinting.....Nice to know that since shes married an american , she only has to wait 3 years to become a citizen.
3. Good post Todd, I have thought about this too. Could be a good idea. When I mentioned it to Jie, she said, "Do they really have dancers like that in Las Vegas, with no tops?" I said yes, do you want to see them? She said, sure, because she cannot believe there is something like that. I said me too, lets see one. Then she changed her mind. I dont know why? 182662 Ken that cracks me up. lol I know my Li is very excited about going to vegas. I asked her if she wants to fly or drive. She said we drive. haha. She likes road trips it seems. 182675 I talked about the road trip too Todd, but when she heard the speeds I like to drive, she changed her mind and wants to fly. I dont get it. Airplanes go 500 to 600 mph. I only go 110. Whats the deal? 182748 182753 Qingqing and I got married in Sin City last November...Picked up the licence around 2am with no wait at all..Note: It took 5 weeks to recieve a certified copy of the marriage certificate.. we sent for it as soon as we got back to Dallas.. they told us that the chapels have up to 10 days to file the marriages and that it could take 4 weeks to recieve a copy... They were right...delayed are AOS filing by another month...
4. Called the county clerks office in Nevada on Friday. The lady told me it was mailed out on the 1st... Havent seen it yet... Going to call again on Monday and tell them that we never recieved the 3 copies we paid for..once we get the certificate we will file for the PILOT program thats available in Texas..This government program allows you to get your green card in 3 months... http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices/dal...ot_overview.htm
5. Did she have to get any vaccinations? 173959 yes. they told her she needed a second MMR.. which I think was wrong so it cost us 80.00 total for the paperwork.
6. She wasnt even that... only a member to get a good job... thanks
7. Interesting... when my SO and I applied for her S.S. card, she wasnt in their system yet but they still issued her a card.. he never even questioned it... just looked at her passport and application and entered it into the computer... I even asked him if she was in the system and he said no...she recieved her card in 8 days.
8. Well. we made it passed the first hurtle with the K-1 visa question, now the dreaded communist party question pops up again in two places on the AOS forms.... We of course must answer truthfully since we did on the Visa forms. but has anyone ever had a problem with the AOS when answering yes there SO was or communist member of the peoples republic of china?... I just hope they wont require the waiver from us and another expensive fee... We have the waiver printed out but think its best NOT to include it with the AOS papers we will file...
9. Yes we requested and paid for three certified copies to be mailed to us right after we got back to Dallas.. I will try and give them a call... We have already gotten the supplemental form for medical three weeks ago.
10. Well, we got married within the 90 days. have all the AOS paperwork filled out BUT still havent recieved the certified copy of our Marriage certificate and it could be another 2 weeks before it arrives.. Her Visa expires the first of January and we are wondering if we should just send in a copy of the " Token" marriage certificate they gave us in Las Vegas with a note saying the certified one is still not here yet but will be shortly or if we should wait and possibly go out of status on her visa. What do you think?
11. Ok, Ive read the old posts and still havent found the answer im looking for . We got married in Nevada 2 weeks ago and was told that they do not change her name to mine on the Marriage Certificate. We were told that we'd have to do that ourselves later..I was married before ( not in Nevada) and dont recall having that wifes name ever changed on some government document. She just took on my last name and that was it.. I know we can have my new wifes name changed legally on her SS card. My question is, she wants to go by her name and mine...so is all thats required is for her to file the AOS forms using the new last name and have her SS card changed as well or do we have to go before a judge and pay more money to have it legally changed? Isnt she automatically my last name now?...does it matter?..can she keep her last name if she wants to? I would think that wouldnt be the best option though.. She would like to go by her fist name, then last then my last name...
12. Doesn't she live with you?? Just be honest! The INS already knows she's from China. 170270 Right. And thats my thought when filling out the application. Her new residence is Dallas Tx
13. I just noticed that when my SO and I filled out the marriage application, I wrote that her residence was also my address..So the marriage certicicate shows her residence as Dallas Texas NOT China..Do you think that will make any difference to INS?
14. Please post there reason for denial...Its hard to suggest any help without knowing all the facts.. sorry for your denial but most can get overturned in time..
15. Im still here.. Qingqing arrived last weekend and its been non stop as well for us.. We Just picked up the wedding rings yesterday and made flight arrangements for a wedding in Vegas in November. Next week, we will get the SSN for her and start to fill out the AOS papers ,those that we can answer now...She doesnt miss China at all!...Loves America!...Has kept in touch with her family on the phone alot though..Is very happy here now thats shes with me forever..
16. I flew Air China from San Francsico to Beijing to Xiamen back in April of this year.. I had one heavy bag plus a carry on camera bag. I carried on both bags...didnt check any.
17. I wouldnt sweat it.. There are many in your shoes that have limited Vacation time throughout the year.. We are K-1 and I wasnt able to attend my SO's interview either.. She still passed in under 2 minutes!
18. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19. Remember to take lots of pictures with you and her family and friends.. Get group shots as well.. submit those when you do your initial filing when you get back... this will help alot. and have a great time!
20. her luggage! seriously, make sure she has an extra Birth Certificate for the AOS filing...
21. We filed K-1 and I would still file K-1 But the one thing we learned and all those new should know, Is that the P3 could very well be mailed to you the petitioner and NOT to your SO.. That was want happened to us and a friend of ours.. Im not sure if we actually lost any time from the P3 to interview though even though it was an extra 3 weeks before we were able to mail it back to them. Just want you to know, dont wait to see if she gets a package 3 if you get the package 3.. Get her the papers asap.
22. The refund is 1000.00 US and we dont think that even a close friend can collect this from the bank with her ID card.. I told her she should speak to the Bank Manager about a money transfer to my bank.. She was so fustrated yesterday over this and will look into the matter agian today...
23. Does my Fiancee need her Chinese ID card anymore for any paperwork or anything once shes here in the states? Im assuming her passport will do for anything that might require an ID...She cannot get her insurance refund till next month and wants to leave her ID card with a coworker to get the money once shes here. She said they wont mail it to her.
