1. Congratulations! What type of visas do they get? And how many months are those visas good for? I think visitors visa, right? And good for 3 months max.
2. <<The only company that I have heard that may hold the key to producing a effective deterrant is a small pharmaceutical in Corvallis Oregon that has Genetic sequenced Oglio Moropholino that blocks the virus from mutation. This is not a Vaccine but a compound. The companies name is Avia Bio Pharma. It is cutting edge technology and the government has just starting helping fund their research. They need to have it put on fast track for the sake of humanity. This virus could kill hundreds of millions. Sorry for the doom and gloom but it is nervous time and I am very concerned about the Avian Flu.>> Is that Avia Bio Pharma a public company? If so, do you have the link? I can only find AVI Bio Pharma and it is located in Portland OR. The transmission is mostly among birds, and from birds to other animals and humans. There is no human to human transmission yet. It needs to mutate a few more times before it becomes a true pandemic. In another 2 to 4 years, maybe the strain will mutate enough to survive in human body and transmitted among humans. Or, the mutations will lessen the impact, i.e. less fatal. Regular type of flu kills thousands of Americans every year, but the fatality rate is very low. H5N1 strain is much more potent. There were also rumors that US Intelligence had a hand in the initial spread, several years ago, as part of the US biological warfare.
3. During my laopo's interview, she noticed there was a "computer" glitch with the visa issuance of another person. That person received her visa on the fourth day. Most important is to rehearse the questions with your SO, to make sure she knows all the information in your biographical data. And the who, where, when of the photos. It's good to include photos of your close relatives. My laopo noticed someone (in adjacent booth) who stumbled on one of those biographical information and subsequently the blue slip. Have an enjoyable and successful trip. And here is a very convenient place to stay in an apartment above the floors of the Consulate offices. My laopo stayed there and the owner is very friendly and helpful. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13452
4. The English name should be fine and dandy. It's not easy to translate English name to Chinese. There are two ways of translation - 1. by phonetics, or 2. by the meaning of the word.
5. The port of entry will depend on the airline itinerary for the flight to US and the first airport that the plane lands in US soil. For example, if the flight schedule is Shanghai - Los Angeles - Newark, then the port of entry is LA. If it were Beijing - Chicago - Newark, then Chicago is port of entry.
6. It should be quick and no need to hurry for picking up visa. I was told you can check if the package has been sent to the PO. I think it's at the carrier website (EMS?) and type in the visa case number that you get at time of interview. My laopo checked it Friday night and saw her package was delivered, and she picked it up very early the next morning Saturday.
7. My question is similar but that the proposed point of entery is Mineapolis MN and The Is on a SUNDAY so my question is if anyone has gone through there - it is an international airport and can you enter on Sunday ? thanks 162531 US Customs in midwest airports tend to behave like idiots (too fussy) because they don't get the traffic and have too much time to dilly dally. One acquaintance brought back two electronic goods for personal use and they got taxed with import duties.
8. My laopo wrote many things in the photo album she brought to show the VO. It was easy to recall names when she saw her own handwritings while the VO was flipping through the first few pages. During the days after she got the P4, she went through the photos many times and also read over the copies of my financial and biographic documents. Now she knows more about me than myself. That's the only drawback. She also know (remember) what I told her about my family (present and past).
9. Chad - That's tremendous news! I strongly recommend going over the list of VO questions with your SO. You can ask for the list of questions from DavidZixuan. Typically, VO would ask two or three questions about your family (past and present) as in your bio sketch. It's a test on how much your SO knows you. It would be such lost of time and more months of waiting if SO stumbled on those simple questions. I drilled my laopo on many of those questions, and everything went well. While my laopo was being interviewed, she overheard conversation in adjacent booth. That one lady hesitated or uncertain with a question about her SO's past family. The question was related to her SO's former marriage or maybe about the father. The reply seemed to indicate she did not know anything about her SO's past, particularly on significant event.
10. I signed up with ecallchina.com and am very pleased with the quality of the connection - better than onesuite. I even get free 20 SMS messages for each $20 purchase. The rate is 2 cents/min to China. I doubt I will go back to onesuite, except to use up the remaining 40 dollars worth of credit unless I can get a refund. This kind of glitch can bankrupt a company, specially in a very competitive calling card business.
11. I got 3 original copies of every notarized translated documents. The additional cost for the 2nd and 3rd are very minimal. It costs less in China. Best get it done at an official semi governmental notary and translation agency of the province or city.
12. Two days is the norm. One lady who was on same interview day as my laopo, she got the visa four days later. They (at visa pickup place) gave her a "computer glitch" baloney.
13. <<They wanted me to write a statement as to why and how I was able to send him so much money. I sent him some money that I received from family members when we got married, Most american families do these, so I sent him under 2,000 usd over a 1 year period.>> How did the VO knows how much money you sent? That's weird. Two thousand bucks is puny amount these days. What's the VO been smoking?, I wonder. Maybe there are other reasons.
14. Must be the same VO who interviewed my laopo. Very nice and friendly person. Congratulations! Live long and prosper.
15. Supersonic fast! Unbelievable! Particularly through USCIS. Make sure you go over the list VO's typical questions. Ask DavidZixuan for that list. There is a list in Chinese at the 001 website.
16. BF ... very cool. I will probably be able to show 5-6 visits on my current one year multi and can certainly write a letter with some export ideas. Two questions: 1. How much did the 2-year cost? 2. Does it still have the 30 day max each visit limit? 162119 Jim - I used the service of CSCA (Chinese Service Center of America). http://www.visamailservice.com/index.php?P...4a4cbef617edee0 Took about 9 days. Sent by priority mail w/ delivery confirmation. Received in self addressed stamped priority mail. Still 30 days limit per visit. CSCA - Chinese Service Center of America 11713 Tifton Dr. Potomac, MD 20854 This case was processed under processing time code standard Order # 1 Citizenship: US Application type: 2 Years Multiple Entry Consular fee: 150.00 Process fee: 49.99 Express fee: 0.00 Sub total: 199.99 Total: 199.99 Self Stamped: $2.99 Discount: (0.00) Total charges: 202.98 My mailing cost (priority mails - two ways): about 10.00 Total 212.98
17. Forget about GUZ or DOS. They are much more efficient and orderly than Homeland immigration office. USCIS CSC is worse, at least on my petition for stepson. Now, there is huge problem there, not only discrepancy in speed of processing among the service centers (CSC vs VSC vs ETC), but furthermore I watched many petitions for people from terrrrist countries got approved faster than mine. Wonder no more why 911 took place.
18. My laopo was too anxious to be interviewed, so she was on line by 6:45 AM, and was the third one to be interviewed. Many more people on line, for other types of visas, not just immigration visas.
19. I have a two-year multiple entry visa. I showed I went to China 3 times in past 15 months, and got letter of invitation from an acquaintance to visit his factory. I also indicated that I will visit relatives and to search and conduct business opportunities to export goods to US. They like the word "export" goods from China.
20. I found DOS was better in giving the correct information. However I had to call several times to talk to different people, and get the correct information from someone who knows how to find the information. Certainly and without a doubt, there are a few ding-dongs in DOS too. In comparison, GUZ's replies to my emails were worthless.
21. Thanks everyone for the well-wishes!! Joanne... What do you mean "pre-determined"? Randy and Hanxi 161866 Randy - One suggestion. Get a list of VO's past questions, and prepare your SO on the answers - particularly how much in depth she knows your family and the method of communication. My laopo mentioned about one young lady who speaks English, a college graduate, and apparently quite smart, but stumbled on questions related to her knowledge of her American fiance's family and his past marriage. It seems there is no time for hesitancy or thinking how to answer the question. Ask David Zixuan for the list that he compiled a few months ago. I sent a copy of David's list to my laopo and she prepared the answers for any of them. She also got another list from 001 website. It was an arduous task, like studying for an exam, but well worth it and you can prepare answers on some of the irrelevant questions. I read some posts of negative interview results, and one big reason was the uncertainty and nervousness of the answers. By practicing, your SO will go to the interview with much greater confidence. I drilled my laopo with some tough and cynical questions (i.e. I acted like an SOB VO, just in case she would be interviewed by one). Luckily most SO's don't know enough American way of talking to know when the VO is being sarcastic and obnoxious. However, some sarcastic questions can be difficult to answer properly. My laopo was interviewed by a gentleman and it was a pleasant interview.
22. ..---------------------------------- Upcoming Interview Date Table ------------------------------------" ..CFL_Name.................P3........P4.....Interview..#days..P3-P4..Type.Pass.USC..Comments ..--------------------..--------..--------..---------..-----..-----..----.----.---..-------------------" ".Alex..................../../....../../.....12/08/04................K1...No........Forwarded to GZ ..--------------------..--------..--------..---------..-----..-----..----.----.---..-------------------" ".bubbafred10...........07/25/05..08/30/05...10/13/05....80.....36...CR1..Yes........ 161388 My P3 date was 5/16 (case completed at NVC) or 5/27 (shipped to GZ). Please correct the my P3 date in the table. Thanks, Fred
23. Too bad for onesuite. They will lose customers. I found http://www.ecallchina.com/phone-card.asp?cardID=45 and the rate is even lower (1.9 vs 2.2 cents/min).
