  1. Hi all, I know it's been almost a year since my last posting and that's of course because everything has been going well. Up until recently. When I last posted, it was letting everyone know that the Mrs. had recieved her green card (2yr) and she had began working 2 jobs. One at a local Chinese Restarunt and at our new Super Walmart. At that time, I was still teaching high end Fiber optic theroy a fusion splicing, both of which paid very well. About 3 months ago, my job had ended, meaning that, in order to keep money comming in, I had to be willing to take a job also at the Walmart, which of course, pays way far less than I have ever made. It has been a major adjustment in our lives as far as lifestyles go, but nothing that we can not work through. My concerns now is that I know in about less than one year, she will have to go back for another interview (for her 10yr Green card) and now she is thinking that because she is not getting any younger, it may be time for us to be thinking about having a child. While all of this is good, I can not help but worry that if we were to have a child, we may have to lean upon the local health department for medical assistance (outside my current health insurance that I have on us. ) From what I can remember from the get go, was that something during this immigration process, when I signed the I846 or what ever that was, I was agreeing to make sure that we would not attempt to apply for any public assistance. If we did, I would be responcible for paying uncle sam about $50 grand. or something like that, or she would be made to go back to china, even though we were married. Am I getting things mixed up in the head? Am I forgetting something? I haven't a clue and I am so worried now because the pressure is really comming on from all angles (Her family, my family, just getting by on our current saleries, etc, and now she wants a child. On top of that, she has stated that after the child is about 3 years old, she wants to send it to stay with her sister there in China to get a chinese education, until about 13 or 14 years old, and then bring it back to the states to finnish it's high school education. She says that she wants our child to grow up knowing its heritage and about the Chinese culture and practices, not to mention that it would recieve a far better education (based upon what she has seen with my neices & nephews) Can anyone help to shed some light on this matter? Should I try to convince her not to have a child, etc, what? Thanks JIm
  2. Ok, Here's one for those of you that totally get the IRS & all of their legal mumbo jumbo when it comes to taxes. I am 110% totally lost & confused, but we do want to be able to take advantage of that so-called extra return income on that 1st year, but no matter where we look, or what forms we get, we just can not seem to make sence out of any of it. Here is what I can tell you: She arrived here in November of 2005, in which we also got married as well as recieved her ssn. We filed married-joint. I didn't file anything special as for if she was an alien residence or anything like that (I was using Turbo Tax & it never asked for any of the such) Well, after seeing some of the posts on here & how, during that 1st year, depending upon how one filed, one could really rack up on their return. For most of 2005 (up until we left to bring her to US), she was both in school full time, as well as running her own beauty solon (which she ran privately) Is there anyone here that can help walk us through the process in very simple terms? PM is ok if need be. Thanks
  3. Here is what we did: We contaded the IRS & requested a full & complete set of transcrips & copies of all of the tax reports that we needed. Once we had those, (Tehy came with the IRS Certified Stamp on them as copies), we attached those to those that we had, & then took all of that & had it noterized When it came to our interview, we had no issues. Hope this helps
  4. So she shouldn't have any attempts of the guards there in guangzhou preventing her from getting on a return flight back to the USA?
  5. Hi All, Now that the SO has her Green Card, we are thinking about going back to Nanning to visit with her folks & get some more of that damn good cooking. What we are wondering is this: 1: Will she need to apply to the Chinese Embasy for a Visa? 2: Do we need to get her a US Passport, or can she use her Chinese Passport 3: What issues can we expect as far as getting her back into the USA? What other issues should we be aware of? Thanks
  6. I wished that I could tell you that I know how you feel, but I can only empithise with you. But what I can tell you is from real life experiance & I can not emphisise this enough for anyone going through the various issues. If, at any way possible, you can find out if you are or were related to any prominate gov official, you can use this as a piece of leverage. By getting in your Govonors face, your Congressman & Senators faces (Bug the living hell out of them. Call & write they're offices every single day & lay it all out on the line. Let it rip & do not worry about being polite. The more that they understand how pissed you are, the more that they believe that you are going to take your issue before the evening news & local papers, the more they are going to give your situation a high priority) Tell everyone that you meet in the political sector just how you see it and if you can use true real life statistics, the better off & easier it will be to prove your case. If you just sit still and keep it to yourself, then you are more likely to be just set asise like yesterdays old cheese. I know that is probably not what you wanted to hear, but trust me, try it, & then let us know if you experiance any improvements
  7. Yuppers! although the family really hates to admit to it mainly because he was a real Jerk (to put it lightly) And futher investigation into out family tree, we are somehow related to Thomas Jefferson, How that Is I have yet to understand. What's been so cool into all of this process, is that (& I have yet to fully understand it all) that when ever I felt we were running into a brick wall oor being stonewalled, After speaking with my dad, the various issues just seemed to disapear. Example: After the Mrs got her Aproval of her P4, when we were going through the motion at the Guangzhou airport, the Guards there were bound & determined not to let her through the international security point that lead to the concorse, even though her tickets & everything elase were in place. We had already checked all of our luggage, but that didn't seem to matter. So I made two calls. One to the US Embassy, & One to my dad. About an hour later, we were paged to the Customer Service Desk just outside of the International Departure, and was greeted by 4 US Marines, some Chinese guy in a real nice suite, and some other guy, all of which they said they were from the embassy & was there ot assist us. The Chinese guy flashed some kind of ID at the Entrance of the international entrance & the guards parted like the red sea. One of the guards walked in front, then the Chinese guy, two Marines in front of us & two in the rear. We walked all the way to the entrance of the plane without ever being screened or asked any questions. (Which was really cool, LOL) The Chinese guy handed me a sealed envelope & told me to hand it to the person at the US immigration check point & we should be ok. I thanked them all, & we got on the plane with out any issues. When we got to LAX, when it was our turn to be checked in, I handed the officer the envelope, explained to him how I came about it, he read it, looked at the Mrs & I, asked for our ID's, her paperwork, & then he had two other officers escort us upstairs to catch our connecting flight.(But but before we caught up with her dog & our luggage, which none of it was ever checked or questioned. If they had only knew of the pearls, gem stones, gold, currentcy, moon cakes, fruits & veggies etc, they probably would have had a fit ) We never had any further issues. ANd what's really weird, is that when although we passed our interview, the Mrs had pointed out that because I took a far lesser paying job (so that I could assist her in getting quainted with our way of life here) that if we go by only my income, we fall about $1,500 anually below the required 125% poverty level. Yet I was never requested to have a co-signer etc. I do not know to what extent that either my dad has ties or if it was the call to the Embassy, but either way, I thank our lucky stars to the fullest.
  8. SWEEEEEEET! AWESOME. Now in 2008, we will have to file for the removal of the conditions, right? What kind of head aches can we begin to look for? Thanks
  9. Well, I had never though about being the one to pull that burr out. I'd like to think that maybe that they had done a confirmation of the phone number that I had given her that did the trick, LOL. I'd love to have been a bug on her wall later, LOL Any way.... Correct me if I am wrong: I am thinking that once she recieves the actual card, she should be able to go to & from her home in China with out any issues right? No other documentation need, right? Also, once she has the green card, (although a temp) we should be able to get her SSN changed over to her married name, right? as long as we also provide them a copy of the marraige lisence as well.
  10. Hello Everyone. Yuppers, Yeah Daddy, Our AOS Case was Approved. Boy, talk about sitting on pins & needles, and on the edge of our seats, Boy were we. Here is how the day went: After a much restless night of tossing & turning, waking up every 45 min anticipating the alarm clock going off, we finally got up around 8am and going about the usual morning routine, in OVER DRIVE! . And if that weren't enough, our extended family (her dog that we brough from china, my little fiest & her 3 week old pups) decided to play, the chinese version of puppy fire drill , it was enough to drive us both insane. Here we were, trying our best to do all that we could as to not forget the Huge box of evidence that we had prepared ahead of time, chugging down scalding hot coffee, gulping down chinese dumplings, eggs and juice, and here we are being forced to have to play catch me if you can - ha ha, oh boy, lets try and steal some bacon off the plate. Get down, damn dog, Oh god, not the turttle tank. Damn pups, No the turtles do not find you interesting, Ok, who changed the tv channel? Come back with that remote. --No Hone, I have not seen your blue Tooth for your cell phone. Have you checked the table---Honey, puppy run with the blue tooth, he grrrrr at me when I try to get it from it. Can you come & help me? Yes dear, on my way---Oh Honey, I didn't know you were shaving---On & On it went. By the time we were walking out the door, I was ready for bed, LOL Ok, we start out of the drive and we are on our way by 9:45am. every thing to be going ok, until she taps me on the arm & says "Where are we going? I no see the direction papers.----Screeeeeech, 180* turn, 20 mile return to the house to get the directions. Get on the internet, and did a map quest. Boy what a mistake that was, as we will soon find out. Back on the road, 10:30am. Following the directions, we end up just south of the Airport, close to the Colloseum. We go into the building & find out, there is not any form of government offices in any of the complexes. Why would that not surprise me. , So I get on the phone & call their 800 # & of course, the nut job that answered the phone didn't know any more than I did. So after many go arounds & telling the idiot that if we miss our appointment, my next call was going to be to my senator, (Mrs. Dole) of which I had he personal cell phone #. & Of course, this stupid woman had the gull to say, well, do what you have to do, just do not miss your appointment. Thanks you for calling USCIS. & Hangs up. OH HELL NO!! No she did not!. So I make the call to Mrs Dole & I explain the situation & ask her to PLEASE PLEASE have some one call us so that we could make this appoitment, especially since it was alread a 2 1/2 hr drive. She puts me on hold & then comes back on with a 3 way conversation with none other, than the Idiot I just spoke to. After Mrs Dole gives her a bit of a refresher of manerisim, The Idiot then manage to give me a set of directions to the place, in which it was actually located about 20 miles away, On the other side of the City. A totally different location from the last interview that we had. So we finally get back on the road, fight mid morning traffic & arrive at the Homeland Security Bldg. grab our things & proceed to go inside. Being stoped at the securty check point, we are shown to be 2 1/2 hrs early & would have to wait until 45min before our appointment. So out to the truck we go & wait. Oh look honey, is that snow? That's cute, little Ice bouncing on the truck. They are happy for us.--- Oh God, Please Tell me it gets better, as everyone knows, that these people in the south just can not drive on anything that's not dry. 1:45pm > In we go. We end up in a large waiting area and shortly after, we are called in. The lady seemed plesant enough, so here I am thinking that maybe the worst is over. God was I wrong. I do not have the slightest clue as to what cralled up this woman's butt, but was damn sure of one thing, I wasn't going to be the one to yank it out. VO: Raise your right hand - Does she understand English? Me: Well, I don't speak Chinese & we've been married for over a year, & I have yet to see another person in our bed or our home to translate emotions or anything else, so, yeah, I guess she does. VO: Well if she doesn't we will have to reschedule. Me: I---Don't think so ma'am. As long as you keep in mind that if you think of what it might be like to talk to a 4 year old's english, you will do find. Any big words & you can forget it. VO: Please, do not tell me how to do this interview. Me: Please, have a look at the last # on my Cell phone of the person that I called. Does it look familiar? VO: Do I look like Ma-Bell? Me: Ma'm with all do respect, for your benifit, Please, check the #. She takes the Cell phone, looks at the #, calls someone & asks them to research the #. Then directs us back to the interview, with a nasty attitude. Asking the Mrs all sorts of things like if she is here to over throw the Gov, here to kill any one, was ever kicked out of the USA, where I interjected and said: Me: Do you have her complete FBI, NSA, & all other checks there in your hands? VO: Yes Me: Then you should not have any problems reading that she has NEVER EVER BEEN TO THE USA, right? VO: Well, I still have to ask & hear it from her. Phone Rings: VO: Hello, It's What? Are you sure?. Oh, No Problem. Thanks. VO: (Change of tone) How long have you been married? Us together: 1 year,2 weeks VO: Would you by chance have copies of your past divorce papers? Me. Sure do. Would you like a copy of my past 3 years tax & w2s? Oh No, no need. She thumbles through a few things, stops at one point, looks at me, & her eyes got big. VO: Seems like you have a few important friends and family members, sir. How are you related to Senator John Taylor? Me: Oh, he;s just an Uncle. Haven't seen him in about 10 years, but dad seems to chat with him often. VO: Well, Ok then. I would like to be the first to congradulate you, your case is approved. Here is your temp Green card, (Stamp in her Passport). Be sure to remember to file for your perm card in Nov 2008. And please forgive me, it's been a very eventful morning. US: Thanks, & You try & have e better day. We walk out side & the moment we were out the doors, we both dropped everything, & jumped for joy & big hugs. That's when we noticed a black couple off to the side crying, n& we assesed them that they did not get what they had came here for. So needless to say, all of the way home, she called everyone on her list, while I battled late evening 5:00 rush hour in the Pouring rain, & There you have it. Add another successfull Couple to the CFL'ers Hall of Fame, LOL Thanks to all of you that has helped us in out quest. We couldn't have doen it with out you.
  11. Cool Everyone, Thanks Will Let you all know how it turns out.
  12. Hi all, Does any one know if there is some kind of order that the various items need to bee in for the AOS (k1) needs to be in? Our Interview is tomorrow so we are wanting to make sure we have everything in Order. Thanks Also, What will be some (or All) of the questions that we will be asked.
  13. Hi all, I was reading something over on the Visa Journey site in their FAQ section & in there it made a mention about the following: The first tax return filed after marriage just may get you a significantly larger refund. After much searching around, I have yet to find out any more than what I do now. Can anyone help to shed some light on this subject and if so, what are the steps, Thanks
  14. Well, we had already sent in her Medical papers that she had got just after her arriving here, does this mean that we are going to have to do another set? It's kind of funny that you would mention photos. since we first met, I'm guessing that we've collected well over 1,000 of them, 200 of them since she arrived here. That will be a big box, LOL. As for her english, well, like most women I know, if I could just get her to shut up for two seconds, I might be able to complete a single sentence. Sometimes I wonder as to just why in the world would anyone want to teach their partner to speak their language. And what's worse is now if she isn't rambling on in english, it's that damn rapid fire chinese, and even worse when she attempts to combine the two. LMAO Just gotta love it. Utility bills? Here, the only company that will let both of our names on it is the power company. We each have cell phones, but the bill is in her name (Married name). We have a total of 3 bank accounts. A joint checking & savings & one that is just hers. Our health insurance is in My name, even though she is on there as a dependant. So I am not sure if that will be enough. Thanks
  15. Hi all, After several pain staking months of not knowing, we finally recieved our notic for her to get her AOS Interview which is in November, and what's more, its the day before thanksgiving. I was looking at all of the stuff that they have listed on what to bring, & MY GOD! We'll need a small pickup truck to take all of that stuff. I mean: They are asking for everything that she had to have for her P4 interview, (Originals of everything, & then Also Copies (Just in case they want to keep something) That means all of our Emails, Chat messages, Photos, Telephone Records, Westernunion Transcrips, etc. They are also asking for everything & copies of them from when I first submitted & applied for the K1 Visa. Together, that is comes to about 6 Ream of Paper Boxes. On top of all of that, they are also asking for originals & copies of any property we have obtained together, copies of bills that are in both of our names, Proof of Insurance (Health, Medical, dental etc) Copies of every I-797 that they had ever sent to us, MY GOD, Anyone have a floor plan as to how it might be best to assemble all of this stuff for easy access when asked for? Is ther any thing else that we may need to also include to this already heaping pile of paper craziness? Thanks
  16. Any one have an Actual Address? The Mrs Has one, but I am thinking that it is to the Visa Office & not the Passport Div. Thanks
  17. Has Anyone Use This Firm & Can they Be Trusted? Also, Is this what all we would need to do? Thanks http://www.visarite.com/ChinaPassportExtension.htm
  18. We must be blind as bats or something, as we looked up on the site mentioned & have yet to find what ever that she will need to file, much less anywhere where it says we should file. ANy suggestions. Thanks
  19. Hi All, The Mrs just informed me that not only will her Chinese Passport will expire in July of next year, but she has been told by several ladies from 001 that the Chinese emabasies here in the USA will no longer update, renew or replace any ones (Chinese Citizens) passport. After January, should they need to be replaces or any thing else, the individual will need to go back to China to get the correction or update that they need. Therefore, does anyone here know anything about this, and if so, how do we go about getting her Chinese Passport Renewed (Good for another 5 or 10 years)? Where do we find the forms, & then were do we send, what do we send? Any Idea on the costs? What percautions do we need to be aware about. Thanks
  20. AWESOME!!!! If you don't mind, I'd like to add them to our China Image & video collection that we (the Mrs & I have) We have been compiling all that we can & converting them into DVD slideshows so that our frinds an family here in the states have a chance to get to see the REAL CHINA. Again, Great Work & Look forward to many more.
  21. During the Last 6 months I was there, We decided to to use western Union. During the 6 months course, we would send around 2,000 USD 3 times a week. Each time sending it to family members here to deposit into my account back here in the states. Although yeah, a bit pricey, but far less hassels, far less worries. When it came to boarding our plane, we had what remained broken down as follows: $400 worth in Coins (1yuan, 5 yuan & notes) $3,000 worth in 20 RMB & 100 RMB (packs) $1,000 worth in 1, 10, & 50 yuan notes $500 worth in 1,5,10 notes. $5,500 in US Currentcy (which we had her family each take turns at several different banks having the RMB converted) We were never questioned at any of the Airports (Nanning, Guangzhou, LAX or Atlanta. That's how we did it. Good Luck We both carried the same amount

  23. Well, if she was here in NC, I could easily donate Cases upon Cases of frozen Chicken, Bread, baked goods etc. Each week I end up giving away about 40 cases of each. (A friend of mine runs a food warehouse / Storage facility & gives me what they haven't room for
  24. Warning: This is just a third party's view and thoughs. How you percieve this is up to you. Use this info at your own risk. If what I am reading is correct, and she owns her own business, Has her Own money, There may be a way around this. BUT, this method would require her to have the Ultimate Trust in you. If you have a Bank account in the USA, try & get your bank & Her bank to except wire transfers from hers to yours. Then, either have hre transfer any amount (under the 6,000 usd mark into your account, about every 3 weeks) Also, you can send a western union to say, a family member back in the states (under the 1,200 usd) once a week. Once they get it, have them deposit it into your account when you get ready to come back to the states, you can bring back with you, up to 10,000 USD (in RMB) but I suggest keeping it about the 5 grand mark.(Divide it up in diferent suitcases with the bulk of it in you carry ons. This will help you to stay under the radar. The goal here is to get you above the 125% poverty level. (Which you may have to explain to her) Here is what we did: Each week, (weather I was there or not) she'd transfer about 6,000USD into an account that I had set up just for her Every 2 weeks, She would then wire some more via western Union, and I would then send her some (around a grand & a half) All the while, the bulk of her stock pile was being increased here. Each time I came back from visiting with her, I would bring back a large carry on (you have to think this one through) in the cases we would put about 8 grand worth in each of them (Mixed with coins, notes, etc) Some were bundled, others were not. If we had breakables we were carrying back, then we would use the paper money as packing materials Either way, use your head. Think Think Think. Be creative and you can over come the obstical. I do not reccomend this for everyone as not just anyone can pull off that (I'm innocent, I'm a first timer but I am confidant that I know where I am going look & body language) If you have the time, You may want to search for some of my posts from when I first started the process and what & how I managed to get around many of the obsticals (going In & Out of china) Although many of them we honestly & bonifide 1st timer ignorance or innocents, either I was just plain lucky, or a higher up was wathing over me. (Still havent figured that one out yet.) But Like I had said before. Use you head. Be smart, be safe, and when in doubt, question yourself again and again as to what you are about to do. Only go through with it if you 99% sure. Just my 2 cents worth. Good Luck
