I'm not mensa, but I didn't ride the small bus either. Anybody done this in Chi-town recently? I couldn't get any info on the consulate website about it, they were more geared to getting visas for China. We've got a few months till the old one expires and no trip planned soon, but I'd like to stay on top of it.

This topic has been discussed here a few times in the past couple of months. Now you must either apply at a PRC Consulate in person, or use one of the accredited Visa Agents, who deal directly between you and the Consulate.

George, if you are needing to renew your wife's passport the information is only available on their site in Chinese.

 

The process is simple and you could driver over to get it done, you need 2 passport photos, the old passport, green card or proof of legal residence in the US and if you want it mailed back a prepaid express label for either USPS, FedEx or UPS.

 

The cost for the renewal is $55, if she wants a name change addendum it's another $10 (but you need more documentation) and the mail back fee is $5. It is usually complete in 7-10 business days.

 

If it's a visa you need, nothing major just your application, pictures and money, you can have them mail it back or if you drop it off in the morning usually you can get it later in the afternoon.

 

Also, I can testify that you never rode the small bus, they had barely invented the wheel when you went to school.

Just printed out the Chinese instuction sheet. Wife says "I know" so we get to do a road trip. Lee, the wheel was around long before me, now the internal combustion engine.....

Tell your wife to be prepared to fill out a different form when you get to the consulate unless they have updated their website. We had this problem a few months ago when my wife renewed.

 

George, I'd swear your name was on the patent for the wheel and you were around to suggest that Henry Ford used it royalty free on the Model A when you were his mentor.

Just an FYI.

 

It took 45 days when my wife had it done in SF.

 

She went in and picked it up since we are local.

 

And yes, services to PRC citizens are in Chinese on the web.

Either your wives are in a different age group than mine, or, I'm missing the bigger picture of the assistance offered by an internet service for passport renewal.

More like a mutt. You know like faithful and hangs around the house. pkfops, I still don't know...it's Chinese and the only character I know is for the mens room I figure take money and IDs and a day downtown. What could possibly go wrong?

Yes, the process has changed. It used to be easy (pre-Olympics).

 

I've only done it the old way.

Hello George, Yizhen & I will be going to the consulate tomorrow. It is on Erie just east of State, 5th floor. The web site shows address 100 W. Erie, but the visa and passport office is 1 E. Erie. I see sometimes the Chinese people and the Visa services get same day service for free if they get there early. If it is very crowded, no way. I need a visa for our IR-1 trip, coming up soon. My Union's Regional Office is across the street and we will get a letter listing the designated beneficiaries for Life, Pension, Annuity, and health Insurance as "PROOF" for the interview.

If/when you go, just try to bring everything they want for the Passport. It is a long trip home if you are missing something. Good Luck, Mike & Yizhen

 

PS we take the REDLINE, very convenient short walk South on State to the station and no parking hassles!

Mike, You just made me think of something! I should get a visa at the same time. I should be able to get one for 30 days valid for a year, right? I'm sure the economy will be all great by next Spring Festival. PuYang here we come.

My wife and children need to renew their Chinese passports. The information available on the internet and directly with the Chinese consulate is quite confusing and conflicting.

 

If there is anyone out there who can give us specific information on how and where to do this, it would be most appreciated. We live in the state of Florida.(I am aware your state of residence determines which consulate will process the passport).
