  1. Hello! My wife is applying for a CR-1 visa. We are preparing to schedule my wife's interview and wanted to hear your thoughts about the documents she needs to bring to the interview. Marriage Certificate - The Immigrant Visa Instructions say that she needs to bring a notarized copy of our marriage certificate. However, when I went to the consulate in Guangzhou to submit the original I-130 application, the officer collected the notarized copy of our marriage certificate and said that he needed to keep it. Does this mean that we need to get our marriage certificate notarized a second time? - Do we need ti notarize both marriage certificates or just one? Birth Certificates - The instructions also saw that her notarized birth certificate "must state the date, place of birth, and names of both parents," but the notarized copy we got (got it done before seeing these instructions) doesn't include the date and place of birth of her parents. It just includes their names and Chinese ID numbers. Do we need to get another notarized birth certificate with the exact information or will the one we already have be fine? - Does she need to bring my US birth certificate? I am her husband and petitioner, a U.S. citizen. Police Certificates - We are a little confused where to go to get this and what it is called in Chinese. If someone could provide the Chinese for where we need to go and what to tell them we need, that would be great! vs ֤ vs ֤ We are in Hangzhou if that matters. - I assume we need to get this notarized as well? Medical Examination - My wife will likely need to get all of the vaccines required, since she has no records of previous vaccinations. Is it possible to get all of them done at once or does she need to wait a day between getting vaccinations? - We will be in Beijing for around 4 days, will that be enough time to get the medical examination done and receive the sealed medical report? Evidence of Support - I am filling out the I-864. Part Two (Information on the Principal Immigrant) requires us to fill in a mailing address, but it does not allow us to put in a Chinese address (for example the zip code box is limited to 5 numbers but the zip codes in China are 6 numbers). Am I supposed to fill out my address in the US for this? - The form asks for her A-Number, but I do not think she has an A-Number. Are we supposed to have one by this point? - The instructions say that she should bring my most recent Federal income tax return, but I see here that people suggest bringing the returns for the past 3 years. Does it make a difference? Also, would it help if she brought my employment contract for a new job I will be starting in August in the US? Thank you so much for the help, we really appreciate it!

  4. Hey all, As the old radio saying goes..."Long time listener, first time caller"...Candle For Love's forums were an amazing resource during my wife's DCF IR-1 visa process and I'm happy to report she was approved last week after only 4 months! I have a quick question. The consulate is keeping our only original marriage "white book" and we are wondering if we should go down to her hometown and pick up another before heading back to the states in October. Is the white book recognized in the states? And is our marriage seen as official without it? Looking forward to your responses and thanks again! Best, Jon
  5. My IR1 visa status is in transit.Right now I am double checking the checklist and I have some questions. Please help! I sent all the original documents of police record and birth certificate to NVC.But the instruction says I will have to present the original copies at the interview. Will I get them back before the interview or do I have to get another one?( I chose the electronic process) I was living with my husband in Japan before I came back to China in the July of 2013. Since then I have been waiting for the immigrant visa in China. I have my police certificates from Japan.Do I need to get another one to cover the period of time from July 2013 till now? Approximately how long will it take before my interview is scheduled? My status just turned from "in NVC" to "in transit" yesterday.Happy new year to you all! Thanks! Wanbin
  6. Two questions: Going to get everything translated and notarized soon. 1. How many copies of the "white book" should I get? Additional copies the day of are only 20 RMB per. If I return to get more copies later, I have to pay the base fee of 210 again. So, two copies today would cost 230; three 250 RMB, etc. One today and one tomorrow would cost 420 RMB. We're also translating the following: Wife's hukou Wife's birth certificate Son's birth certificate Wife's criminal background check Our marriage certificates 2. Am I missing anything? Thanks!
  7. Hello, I have a question. Recently I got legally/officially married in China. I got the China marriage registration/certification (China marriage red booklet). 9. So as some of you may know, I finally officially proposed in February. We took a little bit to think about how to go about the process of getting married, and immigration. We decided it would be best to do it in China as it would be easier for her family to attend. We wanted to do it in May, but her cousin is getting married that month, and we don't want to hypothetically steal their thunder in a sense. So we were thinking of getting our certificate in May "essentially a courthouse marriage" dressing up a bit, and having a small, but nice dinner with some family members as a proto-celebration. I will then return to the United States, file for her Immigration Via CR-1, and return in October to have an official celebration and ceremony. By the time her interview comes we will have had the ceremony, and have some nice pics and so on. My question, do you think this may raise any eyebrows in the embassy? Would this create any problems?
  10. Jing entered the USA on July 5 in SFO. We're getting married on the 15th of September? Is that too late in the pocess? When we got our marriage certificate this morning, they said it takes up to 10 days after you turn in your signed/completed marriage license to get a certificate. Is this going to pose a huge issue? Should we reschedule the wedding to an earlier date? Alex Wait
