  1. We just arrived two weeks ago. Like another poster stated in their tread, we were a bit too dazed from 12 hours of flying and 1.5 hours of off-boarding a plane and getting through the Visa line to really take in what the immigration officer told my wife and me. I had paid the $165 immigrate fee, before leaving China. So, we have the following questions. The USCIS website wants a receipt number. Fine. Except it always rejects receipt numbers from Guangzhou, GUZ. I tried using the phone number on the USCIS website. How on earth do you enter letters on a phone? After several attempts, I gave up. So how on earth are we to be able to check up on the green card status? We have this packet of health information, which was barely looked at, then handed some of it back to us, including the health-check DVD. Will that DVD ever be needed? When is the soonest we might expect direct mail from USCIS? At what time do we simply get in a car and start knocking on USCIS doors?
  2. My wife and I will be traveling to China she has a current Chinese passport, which she will use for entry into China she will not need to present her 2 year green card? Upon returning she will need to present her Chinese passport and green card (2-year immigration card CR-1) at the U.S. P.O.E? Will she go through the U.S. P.O.E? I would appreciate any information from others who have had their SO's return from China after living in the U.S. she been here over a year now. Thanks Bill
  3. POE: We arrived at JFK airport to a fairly long "Visa" line which I was told we needed to wait in. Kinda surprised there was no fast track for US citizens. With a couple hundred people in front of us and 6 officers working it took ~1 hour for our turn. The officer was very nice and simply opened our package and checked through it for all required stuff (nothing more than a cursory check). He gave my wife's visa a purple stamp and wrote "IR1/H(or maybe A)#######(Her "registration number" from the visa)" We were pretty burned out at this time so I didn't quite follow what he was saying, but I think it was something like the stamp was good for 1 year and that the green card would be arriving for us in ~7-8 weeks since NY is a very busy port. I don't remember him saying anything specific about the green card, am I right to assume it will be good for 10 years? Also, is the # he wrote with the H (or A I'm assuming here) her "A-number"? SSA: When we arrived I talked with an officer there about whether we actually needed see someone from the SSA or not since I had selected to receive a SSN after arrival on the visa application. He said that to be safe we should fill out an application and talk to someone. It took about 20 minutes before we were called up. The worker, again very nice, took my wife's passport, asked her a few questions, and told us her SSN would be arriving in 7-10 days. He didn't mention anything about the visa application.
  4. As the title says. The fees have been payed and was just wondering where it gets sent to? Does the POE know or does USCIS take care of this. Mike
  5. Hi.. I have a question or two. If I book a round trip flight from the US to Nanning and have to pass thru Shanghai will I have any problems? Some flights say that I will have to change airports in Shanghai. Typically I saw a four hour stay in Shanghai. What will happen to my baggage? Will it be transferred for me in Shanghai or do I have to pick it up and lug it to the other airport? I have never past thru Shangahi below. Thanks for any info that you can give me. Danb
  6. My wife is a worrier...but I understand as she's/we've had a lot of things happen with this whole process of her coming here and then all the things with her daughter coming here also. Here's what she wants me to check on. Daughter came through Chicago as the POE. Visa is an F22. Under her photo it says... "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR" They stamped over the top edge of the visa that she was admitted JAN 12 2015. Under it it looks like they put K22 but I'm thinking it's actually F22. Then her A# under that. So has this been 'endorsed'? Do we have to do anything else? Thanks!
  7. Hello guys. Once your significant other arrives into the US, how long does it normally take to receive the green card in the mail? Thank you kindly.
  8. Delta's flight 582 from Shanghai to Detroit was 1.5 hours late leaving Shanghai. Therefore, it was late boarding prior to departure from Shanghai. And then, they sat on the ground for what you might call the normal Shanghai departure delay. Flight Tracker shows: 05:10PM CST 07:14PM EDT Scheduled: 04:20PM CST 7-day average: 04:42PM CST Scheduled: 05:24PM EDT 7-day average: 05:39PM EDT So, first of all, the flight was 50 minutes late departing. And then, it was 10 minutes short of 2 hours late arriving. Did they fly faste in an attempt to make up time? Again, Flight Tracker says "Speed 556 kts (planned: 484 kts) (graph)" so, two hours late. That is not really the story. The story is that my wife reported a single long line prior to Immigration. Then a worker directed US Citizens and Green Card holders one way. This way led to a section of automated "Check In" machines. No blue form to fill out on the plane, no Immigration Official looking over your passport and then grilling you. Just a row of stupid automated machines that, of course, no one knew how to use. 2 workers present to assist everybody. The next part of the story has to do with Delta's customer service. From my wife's observation, of course. IF you got the apparently white ethnic perrson you got a free room voucher. If you got the Asian ethnic person got a discount (small discount) voucher. What it looked like to my wife was, If you spoke good English you got a free room. If you did not speak good English, or if you were Asian, you did not get a free room from the worker who spoke Chinese. If I was high tech enough I would put a complaint on line somehow, even though my wife said, "no nevermind." Husbands do not listen, am I right? bottom line? Two of them. Allow extra time coming back thru Detroit. If you are delayed on this late evening flight and all the Detroit Delta people just want to shine you on so they can go home, fight for your free room. This stingy Asian worker argued "well, you boarded and they closed the gate on time (no, they did not) so it is the airport's fault you are late, not Delta's." sigh. The wife did finally get a free room, but only because she helped intrpret for some travelers nerby to her.
  9. Hi! Our interview is scheduled for next Tuesday, Oct 14th. If approved, the medical report says we must relocate to the US by March 25th. We were planning to visit the US during CNY and then move to the US full time May 1st. Do you think we should tell the GZ immigration people this plan during the interview or just keep it to ourselves? Is it okay to visit for 1 week during CNY, exit the US and return to the US full time on May 1st? Unfortunately, this relates to the China annual bonus pay out timing... Warm regards, Ben
  10. First off, thanks to everyone on here for all of your help in our process. A Brief overview 1. our official wedding date is 9/29/12 2. Had a CR-1 visa issued in mid april this year, with an expiration date of mid october 14 3. I had to enter the USA for school in August, but realized that if the wife entered after 9/29/2014, we would be married for over two years. As such, we planned her entry to be for October 4, 2014. It is my understanding that she should've received her non-conditional green card upon entry, even though a CR-1 visa was issued: "If you have been married for less than two years when your foreign citizen spouse enters the United States on an immigrant visa, his or her permanent resident status is considered conditional. 4. My wife just went through imigration a few minutes ago, however she claims that inspite of pointing out the marriage date, etc... to the immigration officer, he insisted that only CR could be issued. From everything we have read, it would seem that after 2 years of marriage before entry, the PR should not be conditional. Am I correct? If so, do we have any recourse? Can we have this mistake corrected, or will we have to wait the 21 months and file I-751 and pay the corresponding $505+85= $590 ? Does anyone have any suggestions for next action to take? Thanks in advance
  11. OK, The deal is my buddy (Bob) will be going to Chongqing this month on the 28th to visit his wife. The problem is he is not the sharpest tack in the pack and get lost in a paper bag. Here is his flight plane. Cleveland to San Francisco: San Francisco to Beijing: Beijing to Chongqing: As i said before, He gets lost in a paper bag. I already have a map for him for transfers from domestic to international for San Francisco to Beijing. (I also have a map of Beijing airport) The problem is that i/we do not know what terminal he will arrive at in Beijing and what terminal he needs to transfer to for the domestic trip to Chongqing. The question i have is: What terminal will Bob arrive in (Beijing) from the U.S. and what terminal will he need to go to for domestic flight to Chongqing?
  12. Hi everyone! I'm new to this website and impressed with the amount of info provided here. Thank you very much! Here are my questions: once I (chinese citizen) receive the immigrant visa and enter the US, do I need to stay in the US until the actual card arrives? Or am I free to travel internationally as a green card holder during this period? I need to travel back and forth betweem the US and China and maybe to Japan/Singapore to sort out several things that can be done only in person (such as selling/leasing out the house, dealing with a few bank transactions etc) before I finally move to the US. Thanks!
  13. Just wanted to let everyone know that my wife was issued the CR1 this May, and was issued a IR1 when she arrived at the airport this July. Thanks for everyone's support. She'll be receiving her green card in the mail.
  14. Hi, Everyone, My wife and daughter attended the interview for their CR-1 & IR-2 cases last week. They were told the cases were approved and given a white sheet. I checked the CEAC site, their cases status are "Issued". We had entered the visa delivery information on the CGI stanley site (ustraveldocs.com). How will we be notified when the passports are ready for pick up? Via a phone call or email? We are waiting for the receiving of the passport so we can book the airline tickets. In addition, I know we need to pay the "immigration fee" before enter the US. I presume they will provide the details with the passport and visa when we receive them? The last question, our two years marriage anniversary is almost there. In order to receive the IR1 status instead of the CR-1 visa she was issued, can my wife enter the US on the anniversary day to meet the two years marriage requirement or she needs to arrive a day later than the anniversary to meet the requirement? Thanks in advance! Bill
  15. My girlfriend had a little trouble the last time when entering on her B-2 visa. Her travel company gave her the wrong itinerary for her trip. So I wrote her a letter to give when at customs in Chicago. I told her to hand over the I-94 with my address, E- ticket itinerary and this letter. Thoughts on doing this?? From: My Name To: POE Admissions Officer I am writing this letter for my girlfriend "her name" who is visiting me for the purpose of traveling with me while in America and visiting my family. She arrived on flight AA154 June 29; her return flight is AA187 November 24. I work full time and we will be travel during my limited vacation time and during weekends. I am covering her expenses while here including transportation, food, and housing. Please allow her to stay in the USA until her return ticket date. Any questions please call my mobile telephone, she can speak English but on a limited basis. My Name My home address My cell number
  16. Hi, Everyone, I just want to thank you everyone on this forum. This forum has helped us a lot during this process. Especially the lawyer we hired is not very sharp. So I just want to put the timeline of my case on here for someone's future reference. My husband has filed the petition last July and about two weeks later the petition was approved At the end of August, the consulate has sent me the package with instructions how to sumbit DS-230. After 10 days of submitting the form DS-230,consulate sent me an email about instructions on how to schedule an appointment. I had my interview on March 18th and was approved and the status on CEAC changed to AP immediately after the interview and the status further changed to Issued on March 19th. On March 24th, my passport status has changed to Origination Scan. I finally received the visa package on March 28th. Now I am planning on leaving soon. Last could anyone let me know what would I expect to encounter at the Port of Entry. Is the process easy, has anyone been denied admission before. Thanks,
  17. We leave for LA in 30 days. When we land at LAX what should we expect? We're very excited and looking forward to the new adventure.
  18. Fortunately, got my visa in 2 days. Now i have new set of questions...hehehe...the never ending question... 1. My case number in the visa seems like had 2 additional numbers in the end, is it normal? 2. Since i have already SSN, what should i do after POE? 3. When to apply Adjustment of Status or Removal of Conditions? (confused, sorry if my question is wrong) 4. When to Change my Name? 5. Should i pay the Immigrant fee before flying to the US? Any additional Infos are very much appreciated... AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL!!!! FROM US THE GRAVES!!!
  19. Hi Everyone, This is a related question: my wife and I are preparing for our arrival in the US after getting the IR-1 visa processed. We will arrive after our two year anniversary. My question is this: is there any particular point of entry that is used to new immigrants arriving? I remember one time arriving in Chicago and having my then-girlfriend almost having an argument with the immigration official, but we had no issues whatsoever flying through Toronto. I ask because I don't know how unusual our situation will be, when our documentation is enough for the 10 year green card. Probably overthinking this, but would like to be sure. Any feedback much appreciated! Thanks, Sammy
  20. I'm not sure where to post this but I'm getting worried. It'sd been 3 weeks since my wife and step-daughter arrived in the country. The green cards have yet to arrive. The Social Security cards have arrived but no green cards. What is the normal wait time for the cards to arrive? Bubba
  21. My wife had a very simple interview where most of the things that she brought were not even looked at. Questions were: 1. How is your English? 2. Would you rather we use Mandarin? 3. How long have you and your husband been together? 4. Where did you and him meet? And then a "congrats you're visa is approved". My wife and I split to Hong Kong for a few days to celebrate and yesterday on the train back to Beijing her mother called her and said the envelope with her passport and stuff had arrived and that they'd be shipping it up to us to Beijing today. All in all a very anti-climatic ending to a process that was very nerve-wracking. Like someone here says, "everyone gets the visa. It's just a matter of how long it takes." I'd say that's about right. Follow the directions on the forms and you'll be just great. All told, from the day I petitioned via DCF in Beijing last September 15th, or so until the visa was approved in Guangzhou on January 18 was just about 4 months to the day. Much faster than I had anticipated. So that wraps up the immigration journey for my wife and I. This has been and continues to be a great forum for people like me who just a few months ago were pretty clueless about how to go about getting my wife a green card. Thanks everyone who helped out along the way!
  22. Hi guys, I am thinking about going back to china for the chinese new year. Just to be sure...I have a Chinese passport, a valid green card and a marriage certificate to explain my last name change. Do I need anything else to come back to US? Thanks! Shuyan
  23. hi everyone. now that my wife has her visa in hand and will be in the states on dec. 8th what comes after that? does she need to apply for a green card right away? can we get her a state ID card with the visa? we have been so absorbed in the visa process we never stopped to think about what comes after the visa. and help/hints/advice will be greatly appreciated. BTW...i was informed last night that we will not be using the heat just need to buy thick quilts and wear more clothes in the house. lol. i live in the mountains....we will see how that goes
  24. Hi all, so my wife finally got her CR1 visa a couple months ago, and we're about to head back to the US. Is there anything she will need at the border, aside from her passport and the big packet that was mailed to us when her visa was granted? For example, medical forms, her x-ray, anything like that? Also, is there anything she'll need to know or say during that process? Obviously I'll be in the US citizen line so I can't be there to help her, but she doesn't really speak english.
  25. Someone here told me that with the CR-1 Visa the beneficiary will have a green card before entry to the US. We don't seem to have one. The immigration officer at the LA airport just told me to make sure we follow the instructions on the paperwork in the immigration package. From what I see it is just instructing us to change her status before she is here two years. Also does she need the usually vaccinations with a CR-1? As always...thanks for your help!
