  1. Tonight on Fox 10 O'clock News: Thousands of Americans pay big bucks to marry women from overseas.... and it's all a scam! Men are being set up to bring these women in.... and they're being used for citizenship...... I am paraphrasing a commercial I heard on the radio today. The keywords are correct. The message was that our dear ones are all on the take and we are fools, or maybe just greedy. I encourage everyone to watch this story tonight. I'm sure it will be as entertaining as it is inflammatory.
  2. No, it wasn't an issue at all, other than the SSN. In hindsight it would have probably been better to get that as soon as she entered the USA. I never did find any rule about the time allowed to file the I485, and frankly at first I was a bit nervous about it, but the IO yesterday showed no concern about it at all. She did double check to make sure our wedding was timely.
  3. I think it's been 5 or 6 weeks Steve. I would think yours should be coming along shortly.
  4. WAHOOOOO!!!!!!!! Went to the AOS interview today and came home with the I551 stamp in the passport. The green card is in the mail! Now we don't need to deal with these guys anymore for awhile. We can just be us. Thanks CFL.
  5. The lawyer's quote of 6 months is crap. And it's also the truth. I used a (very expensive) lawyer who filed the I-129f petition and then did very little else. The approval of that petition came within six months, but then the real work begins in GZ, and "my" lawyer left us completely out in the cold. If not for the help of the CFL family, we would have been lost. Skip the lawyer and save the money. One other thing worth considering in your desire to live together before marriage is the 90 day window allowed in the US on a K1. After spending several months together in China, it gives you up to 3 more months together before marriage in the US, which could be very beneficial to her adjustment. Bottom line, IMHO: File the I-129f immediately for a K1 and go be with your girl.
  6. Yes, we will be there, and maybe even another couple who are not members here. The woman is a frien of Jiening's from ESL. Does anybody have events in mind? Will there be anything happening at a particular hotel? I'm thinking Motel 6 for us. She married a cheap bastard.
  7. Well, why not???....... everything else is going up! 158662[/snapback] Not my salary.
  8. Jiening also quit her job for my first visit. Many months later, I was in a position to go visit her a third time. My mom was in Arkansas and Jiening convinced me to use the money and vacation days to take my son to visit grandma instead. In spite of the burning desire to be together, she put the well-being of my son before herself and me. At that point I knew I had made the right decision. She is the only one for me. Those values are reinforced daily now that we are together.
  9. I read your original post and understand it to mean you will make a land crossing into HK. My wife & I left from Macau. The visa for a chinese citizen to enter Macau is the same as for Hong Kong. It is a separate passport (dark blue) that is very similar to the red international one. There were a couple minor difficulties at the airport, but I think that was because Macau is so small, maybe they had never seen a K1 visa before. Hong Kong gets so much traffic that this shouldn't be a problem for you. One thing, though. We were stopped at the border into Macau and forced to pay the Visa fee (100 HKD) even though she had a US visa and a plane ticket.
  10. Congratulations Jason. You'd better get busy. Are you going for the interview?
  11. Good to see you here, Fang Ling. It was nice meeting you in Portland.
  12. The one to use is at this web address. Simply fill out the form and wait. Sound familiar? Good luck.
  13. The invasion begins on the eastern front. And now from the southern flank.... We are on our way.
  14. I bought the paper plates, silverware, cups, and napkins yesterday. Jiening wants to bring a watermelon.
  15. Count on us for paper plates, napkins, and the plastic silverware. Maybe a watermelon.
  16. Ya'll are mistaken. The cute short girl with brown eyes and black hair is already here, married to me. Best of luck with the interview.
  17. I think that I am sacrificing enough just by putting on clean socks and almost clean undies-damned if i'm gonna break out the good jeans too!!! That would be pointless anyway. You promised to wear a dress.
