In Kansas there is only one place for names and that is the name you have before getting married. Any name change takes place when you update your SSN and State ID. Not a real official process if you ask me, but that's how it is done here too. 186036 Yes, it is customary for official State marriage certificates to show the names officially used immediately before the ceremony. Then the bride determines whether to "keep" her own name or "take" her husband's name. John Smith does not marry Jane Smith. He marries Jane Jones who takes his name (or not) and becomes Jane Smith (or not) after the marriage. 186070 In TN the marriage license has her maiden name but the marriage cert has whatever name she chooses i.e with her new surrname! 186072 So does that mean there is usually no name change? 186074 No, we all change our middle names to Bob. now wifey is Fang Ling Bob....

background check. what about my record?
Trigg replied to pinky2006's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Nope! 186058 so what do they do in that background check? 186060 My guess is that mostly they check her background--after all you aren't the one migrating to America!!!!! Even if they did check your background, a dismissed misdemeanor wouldn't be cause for alarm. convicted felons have rights taken away but not those convicted of a misdemeanor. 186071 Hum. So what do they check for her background check? we already will give them police history latter on.... check to see if she is not a spy or anything ? I guess I look at the info we give them. addresses. employment (they don't even ask for a number or an address, just a name). Then we don't give them any chinese SS number, .... I really wonder what they can check really. I mean this is a serious question. Here in the us to run a background check, you need address, SS number, ... and even then, you barely pull what's on a credit report, not much more 186075 I'm told that they look for felonies etc...but i have some doubts as there was one case that the man who was the pettitioner was a convicted child molester---and his SO got the visa! I don't know for sure what, if anything, they look for. maybe someone else will know? I'm assuming that if your ex made up a story then you were arrested for Dom. violence. a misemeanor is just that and will not affect your pettition! -

how does the child get the K2 from the K1
Trigg replied to jean-charles's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
That's what SHOULD happen. Put child's name on the I-129F (can't recall the block # now). GUZ SHOULD send two P-3's but sometimes this doesn't happen. BTW: What is the child's age??? 185979 child is age 5. if they only send 1 P3 we can write to ask for a 2nd P3 ? 186025 You could write back, but with copy machines and downloads available why would you want to delay things waiting for GZ to receive/process your request? Which in our case took about 8 weeks. 186038 good point. Is there a special bar code on the forms? 186042 Not on the forms for K1. you have a long way to go before you worry about the p3! Depending on where you file maybe as much as 4-10 months. for now concentrate on the I-129f--that'll keep you crazy enough for while!! -
Is it bad luck to shower on New Years? I don't care what the customs are for New Year. I'll just follow what she says to do as on any other day. 186021 good plan, then if it's wrong you can openly blame her--she will appreciate that oh sooooo much. Trust me on this one! Buwahahahahahahahahaha

Forms in general? what address?
Trigg replied to jean-charles's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
They will need her cirrent mailing address to send the p3 to her. I'm not sure what the perm address is but maybe she knows or can get it changed?? -

Two simple forms I think? -
Geez Lee...I must of not answered the question correctly because I only get to watch her make breakfast on my cam But, it's better than nothing 185996 You could always send an ammended form to CSC, I'm sure it wouldn't slow down their extremely fast processing times. 185999 Yeah...if they move any slower, I think I will be asking my computer for marriage. 186006 Now that's just plain kinky!!!!!

Wifey never heard of the egg thing but she says it's bad luck to sweep the house on new years--says it will sweep away all the good luck. this custom has already brought good luck to me as this is one day that I don't have to sweep!! Wahoooey!!!!

Simple--book her ticket using the name on her passport! 185998 But, but...her green card will be Li Lu. Won't we just be transfering the problem to leaving/re-entering the US rather than China??? 186000 Interesting>>> i'm sure this has happened a hundred times. My wife's green card says Fang Ling Minnick but her passport just says fang ling. She ill be going to china in May. In the USA they check tickets against photo ID. I don't remember them doing this on the return in china. I'll use her full name for the tickets. she can use her green card for ID to leave and her passport to come back on????????????? If memory serves they only request the passport when clearing cuswtoms--nothing to do with the ticket!! 186003 My x was a Japanese National. She had the same circumstances as your wife has on her passport and green card. Therefore, unless US custom has changed its policy, it is the name on the passport that is considered for reentry, not the green card. Also, as Trigg said above the passport name must be the same on the airline ticket and reentry is passport only...not airline ticket too. Hope this helps!! 186010 problem with this is that when my wife got her green card they said they didn't need to stamp her passport--so she will have to show her green card on re-entry!! Perhaps the marriage cert showing her maiden name and her married name??????

Interview envelopes and immunization form
Trigg replied to ameriken's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
You don't need immunizations for the visa interview. you will need them for the AOS interview after she gets here! -
Not if you burn your drawers. Always remember that after age 50 NEVER assume it is just a fart!!!! 185020 yeah...roger that!! One thing I learned from my visits to China is to keep those little tissue packs close by 185021 The real key to it is buy dark colored undies. It doesn't reduce the mess but covers it well when wifey hand washes!!

Language for SO and her child ?!?!?
Trigg replied to pinky2006's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
yes definetely, we are multilingual and I will encourage chineese. We are already all bi-lingual in the family French and American so we'll have to be tri-lingual I wasn more wondering if you all think that she can be just simply registered to Kindergarten (or 1st grade based on visa) or not. Thanks 182986 you won't have any problem getting her registered. Schools really have no choice in the matter antway but do remember that they get paid per child per day in school. she'll need her shot records! -

Trigg replied to pinky2006's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
Exposure, exposure, exposue. The little one is still within the window where she can learn a second language without an accent. Expose her to as much spoken englis as possible and let her pre-wiring take it's course!! Aslo, don't forget to have mom speak to her in chinese--she will master both languages! -
Books on Chinese Culture/Way of Life
Trigg replied to chef4u's topic in Chinese History & Philosophy
Me thinks it would be very difficult to learn from a book. there are many differences in culture form city to city and age group to age group. I suggest you learn the same way I did-the Mop Ling Mop slapping school of behaviour. if ya get mop slapped--you were wrong. If you don't get mop slapped--you were probably wrong again but she took pity on you! -
3rd party correspondence..
Trigg replied to ameriken's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
My guess is that would be a HUGE mistake. Percentage wise very few are victims of third party correspondence. Should you email gZ asking it may raise suspicions that will be extremely hard to overcome. Occasionally the best method of proactivity is a laizzafaire attitude!!!
