  1. Have a friend post a superb profile (brain surgeon, San Francisco, no children, etc.) on one of those sites, write her, and see if there is a response.
  2. I stood on a firm hotel mattress and my 180# didn't cause my feet to sink an inch into the bed. The reason the hotels have such hard mattresses is so they NEVER have to replace them. Most of the mattresses have probably been in service since the time of the first Emperor.

  4. Looks like a similar experience of not being able to pay the bill and always losing the "fight". Not being fluent in the language puts us at a real disadvantage when a native wants to pay the bill.
  5. There are other considerations to retiring in China...........receiving Social Security Benefits may be a problem based upon the length of time out of the USA, especially for the wife after the husband has gone vertical. Anyone know the rules?
  6. While in Shenzhen some friends took us to the beach about 11pm..........there were hundreds of people in the water. I thought this was really strange and so very different from the US beaches, but you just explained it.
  7. Merry Christmas Jany and we wish you a happy and prosperous New Year!
  8. Us Okies will keep our mouths shut as long as we continue to get our free subscriptions to Candle!
  9. Yep, they've pissed me off more than once with their pickiness over the bills. What's irked me the most is when my wife went to pick up money sent through Western Union and her name came out reversed in their system. They refused to give her the money even though she knew the amount and the tracking number. They're in the drivers seat and by god they let you know it. So much for customer service.

  11. And I thought I was the only one with problems teaching my wife to drive? NOT! My wife has progressed from the empty parking lots to driving in and around our neighborhood. Her reaction times are still way too slow, stopping at a stop sign means stopping for 10 seconds when there are no other cars around. When other cars are around they will go first regardless of who has the right of way because she stays planted until they are gone. After turning a corner she doesn't exceed 15 mph for the first block or two. When she's the only one waiting to make a left turn at a red light she will get through just as the light is turning red again. It will just take a lot of practice and PATIENCE! A few years ago I had a Vietnamese woman (new driver in a BMW) come blowing through the only open lane of four lanes, the other lanes having cars stopped at the red light. She t-boned the hell out of me. Before receiving a copy of the accident report and knowing if it was a man or woman who'd hit me (I went to the hospital with fractured ribs), I called my insurance agent and told him what and where the accident happened. He said "That's a dangerous area to drive". I asked why he said that and he said "That's where all the Asians are and many of them are just learning to drive". One guy here on CFL, a couple of years ago, told about his wife's driving. She was driving to their friends home and she came around a corner and turned left into the friends driveway just fine, except she was going too fast. She crashed through the garage door and damaged the car parked in the garage.
  12. Exactly! GZ processes the visas for a population of 1.3 billion. That, along with the budget constraints and the Chinese Exclusionary Act make for a long wait.
  13. I'll call ICE in about 3 months and see if they can give me a status on the case #. If not I'll attempt a freedom of information request in about a year. She'll contact the Guangzhou Consulate soon. When he traveled to China last year he went to the Consulate and completed the forms and received the paper from the Consulate stating he was eligible to marry in China. If her purse hadn't been stolen (with their documents in it) they would have been married in China, so they ended up doing the K-1. He committed perjury to obtain that piece of paper. Supposedly the penalties for that can be $3000 and up to 5 years in the pokey. Lying on the I-129F carries a penalty of up to $10000 and/or up to 5 years. Hopefully the government won't look the other way on this. I think it will be taken seriously. It's just too bad she can't stick around to testify what this did to her emotionally and to sue him in civil court. I'm sure he lied to his wife about this woman who called her claiming to be his fiancee, maybe she even believes him. When (hopefully) he gets arrested perhaps she'll then believe it and divorce his sorry a$$ and take the assets. Hopefully in a year he'll be in the federal pokey playing pokey-pokey with the other inmates.
  14. On a better note, the woman now has a ticket to return to Hong Kong in the morning, no thanks to the Petitioner. I want to thank everyone for their offers to contribute to a ticket. This is a good group of people. ICE was contacted at their main number (866 347-2423) and a report has been filed. We'll probably never hear of the outcome but I just hope there is a significant penalty at the end of this for the guy who was a wanna be bigomist.
  15. I found out the main number to report VISA fraud or immigration violations is (866) 347-2423. Another question of legality or illegality as the case may be: What is the penalty for an American citizen who comes to the Consulate, fills out the forms to obtain the permission to marry in China letter if he "forgets" to include the name of a current, legally wedded wife back in the States? If there is a penalty is imposed? Would he ever be permitted to obtain a K-1, K-3 or CR-1 visa again, even if he was really divorced the second time around?
  16. Thank you for the offer of help. I emailed and left a voice message for the guy to get her a plane ticket back to China. We'll see what happens in the next 24 hours. I did finally get through to ICE (used their main number) and got her report pretty well started. Getting an attorney seems to be out of the question, one Chinese attorney in LA her friend recommended wanted $2k up front to begin, it goes on from there with every cup of coffee. Best bet will be to get her back to China, she's not one of the ones wanting to stay on in the US, unlike many others. The pro-bono's like Catholic Charities will help represent you in deportation cases. I asked the guy at ICE where she could turn herself in at. He replied the government won't pay her way to China, that it's her responsibility. I said it was her petitioners responsibility, he filed the I-134. I asked about the penalties for overstay, he didn't know much, but said if she stays long enough she will get on a list and if she is ever picked up they will deport her! Our government has some screwed up rules. Only after they deny to help her return to China and make her a criminal for the overstay then they will toss her out. Makes perfect sense to me Maybe someday Immigration will take note that they need to stop hassling our sweethearts and trying to run background checks on them through a US government super computer when the majority of them have never left China. The government would be better served to run our names through the system. After all, we're the USC's they have records on us. Too bad they didn't catch this bad apple. I'm thinking he probably didn't use tax returns for his financial responsibility, probably used his assets which his SO said he had given her for the interview. Cash, property and a letter of employment. I would think a tax record check would have shown something different than filing single. Yuanyang and SheLikesMe have PM'd me offering their assistance as well as the rest of you. It is truly appreciated.
  17. Thanks for the offer. She'll get home. I read on the USCIS website today that if you overstay your VISA 180 days or more you get barred from entry to the US for (I believe) five years. We'll get her home before then. She needs some time to see if she can find a pro-bono attorney (not a friend of Sonny Bono) and get some letters written to every USCIS address we can find. NVC, NBC, CSC, etc.
  18. He really has a wife, married in 1995 in Las Vegas according to Clark County Marriage Records. His fiancee spoke with a woman at his LA home who said she was his wife. The fiancee had her brother go through her papers today (in Shenzhen) and he found her copy of the I-129F, it only listed one wife, he inadvertently forgot to list the current wife. A bit of advice to any newbies contemplating having two wifes, don't neglect to include any current wife on the I-129F or you could get an RFE and suffer a delay in the processing for failure to dot the i's and cross the t's. She spent considerable time calling the 1-800-no help numbers today. I called ICE in Detroit and left messages on two agents phones with no return calls. I contacted ICE in Dallas today and spoke with a secretary who had never heard of a K-1 visa and transferred my call to the Duty Officer, which ended up as leaving another message that wasn't returned. I left a message on the SOB's cell phone to make arrangements for an air ticket to be ready for her and to email her and let her know the airline and time. I reminded him that he had obligations for having signed the I-134. I tried calling his apartment number in Dallas, no answer. Called his and his wife's home in LA and no answer. Got some Wedding Dinner photos (wedding never happened) and other dinner events on 5 or 6 occassions to mail to his wifes attention . This is extremely frustrating, trying to contact the government. You can read webpages and leave voice mails and listen to recordings until you're blue in the face. When you finally talk to a person they don't know anything about anything. I left a post to GUZ in GUZ speaks to see if they have any advice should this scenario occur. One attorney that was contacted wanted $2,000 up front. The woman doesn't even have an airline ticket to her name. District Attorney is maybe a good idea. Bad part is she went to visit a friend in Timbuctoo (sp) Michigan. Her fiance was supposed to be running an errand to get her laptop out of the shop and get her some cash for an airline ticket to China, prior to taking her to the airport. He was not able to get home in time to take his departing fiancee to the airport so she called a taxi and left to catch her flight. Just another one of her many, many, many mistakes, fubars and snafus.
  19. Can you recommend a telephone number(s) and mailing addresses to report fraudulent VISA applications once the application has resulted in a VISA? For example, a K-1 petitioner forgets to list his current wife's name on line 10 of the I-129F. What could a beneficiary (who does not want to break the US law) do if a K-1 petitioner could not be contacted (as in wished to avoid everything) and does not provide funds/airline ticket to return to China prior to the VISA expiration date? Could the beneficiary turn herself into the Border Patrol, ICE or whomever? Would they take her? If so, where could she turn herself in, to a Customs agent at the airport? I'm sure these types of cases are few and far between but any direction would be greatly appreciated for when and if they occur.
  20. My wife spoke with her friend this evening. She has tried to call her "fiance" on his cell phone and at both of his residences and sent an email to request that he send funds or purchase her a one way ticket to China. The telephones aren't being answered. I'll give the ICE folks a call tomorrow on her behalf to find out what she is to do about returning to China if the SOB (sorry ol boy ) won't provide the funds or a plane ticket. Perhaps they will request she show up at Customs at the airport and they'll deport her at guvmint expense and go after her "petitioner" for reimbursement. One can at least hope. This guy did marry a woman with a Chinese name on 1-15-1995 in Las Vegas according to the Clark County Marriage Registrar. When my wife's friend called the LA telephone number and spoke with the woman claiming to be the wife in Cantonese. The telephone number is an unlisted number but by paying a $15 fee to US Search I got the result that it is registered in this guys name. I wish she had access to the I-129F, etc. Hopefully the Customs/ICE folks will check things out.
  21. Welcome to Candle! Be sure and go to the Links and Resources section of Candle......lots of information there. Search for K-1, I-129F, etc. Some of the information may be a little dated, such as fees and the new IMBRA requirements but will give you a jump start on the coversheet for your application and most of the needed documentation. Just ask and folks will fill you in. Also refer to www.uscis.gov for the latest forms and instructions. Cost for this process? For me it was probably $10k-15k or so. That included 3 trips to China (13 month process at that time, quicker now, maybe 6-9 months) and her one way to the US along with visa fees, medical exam, hotels, food, ring, gifts, etc. It's the airfare that runs the total up the quickest but everything else will nickle and dime you to death. If her English is quite limited it would be worthwhile for you to fund English classes for her. The better her English is the better it is for your relationship (even though at times I consider maybe my wife of nearly 3 years now knows too much English, you old timers know what I'm talking about!), her ability to communicate in English at the interview at the US Consulate (so they know the two of you can communicate), and the better it will be for her when she comes to live in an (mostly) English speaking country. Good luck.
  22. Getting sued for slander would be difficult, especially if she is writing his company from China. Knowing this guy he probably hid the name of the airline he works for from her. She's called USCIS. I called the number I called many times before to see if a P3, P4 had been issued. They gave me a phone number for the Border Patrol (???) who supposedly does the investigations. We'll see if she can get anywhere with them. They should have plenty of time to investigate, they're not exactly busting their a$$'s watching the borders! They should be called the Airport Patrol. I found some links to some organizations who might be able to help her with some legal advice but she is quickly running out of time. Hopefully the woman who said she was the guys wife is in fact his legally wedded wife and not a live in. If so, he's in deep stuff or at least he oughta be, if the guvmints not too lazy to go after him.
  23. A good friend of my wife's arrived in Dallas on a K1 visa several months ago. The wedding hasn't happened as the American SO has turned out to be a genuine SOB. The guy is an airline pilot and he's apparently flying out of LA and Dallas. He's been with his K1 lady about 30% of the time since she arrived. While she was left in the apartment in Dallas by herself for weeks at a time with no acquaintenances she began digging around and found some phone records. One was the number for a woman in China whom he'd been calling on a regular basis for over a year, she also found two phone numbers for two women in Hong Kong that he'd also been calling (she called these numbers). He had her bring her copies of any immigration related paperwork with her to the US and he locked them in a briefcase along with the I-129F and G-325, etc. Now she has no copies of anything. I advised her to break open the case and mail the papers but that didn't happen. To make a long story short she found an LA phone number, called and talked to her fiances WIFE! The wife is Asian and they were able to communicate in Cantonese. The wife asked who this woman was and she told the wife that she was the K1 fiancee of her husband. The proverbial S_ _ T (spit) is about to hit the fan. How would any of you like to be flying on his aircraft while he is going through whatever he's going to be going through. Ya think he'll be a little stressed? This guy will be in a world of hurts once USCIS gets to investigating. I also think she should probably get some legal counsel before she leaves the US (less than two weeks away) as she quit her job to come here.....I think she is entitled to rake him over the coals and get whatever his wife doesn't get. Does anyone know of a certain USCIS phone number to call to report this type of situation, particularly a number that has someone who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese? Does anyone have an idea of what her legal rights would be to take this guy to civil court? Would there be any likelihood that an Attorney would take the case on contingency? This probably won't happen as she has left the Dallas area and is visiting a friend before she leaves for China. Her friend bought her a plane ticket to come visit her in another state before she leaves for China. Her "FIANCEE" went to pickup her laptop he was having repaired and failed to return before she had to grab a taxi to catch her flight. He also did not get around to giving her the $700 he'd promised for her flight back to China. What would be USCIS's take on this guy not providing a return ticket to China for her? Any thoughts and input will be appreciated. P.S. If the little nuts for Don have not yet been located I think I know where we can find a shriveled up pair!
  24. This is a terrible turn of events. I think this is one of those occassions where you should seek the advice of an attorney. Try King or another attorney in the Consulate building. Best wishes for a speedy overcome.
