  1. Xiaoying obtained her VISA to Hong Kong in 2 or 3 days in her home town of Guilin. Cost is about $30.
  2. If you want to get pricey, the dinner buffet at the White Swan. Many, many selections, but pricey, $240RMB/couple I chuckle when I remember scanning the lunch menu at the White Swan and the ten dollar hot dog caught my eye. We ended up eating a good Cantonese meal for the price of a "dog".
  3. Item number 11 states (Complete this block only if the person named in the item 3 will be in the United States temporarily). So you probably want to leave this one blank. I started to fill it in myself. Legible print is fine on the forms.
  4. I saw it, interestingly the announcement also states: Along with your photo we will be collecting an electronic image of the fingerprints on your two index fingers. The process is very quick. Q: How will you take the fingerprints? A: We will collect two fingerprints from each applicant using a scanner. No ink is used, and the process takes about 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  5. I had my wife mail me her passport, I made a copy and had a notary public insert the language "I certify that this is an exact copy of the original document." Be sure and mail the passport certified both ways. The other option to mailing the original passport is to take a copy of the passport to the nearest US Consulate and they can certify it for you.
  6. My wifes P3 arrived with her name split into two parts. I emailed Guangzhou to please correct to avoid any problems at time of interview. I can just see her not being allowed to enter because the name on her interview letter and passport do not match. Hopefully, as you say, there will be no problem. Has anyone experienced a problem because of this name splitting?
  7. Our petition was mailed from NVC on May 28 also. It was received by the Consulate on June 23. The P3 was mailed out on July 13. Yours should also be on the way.
  8. Congratulations. Wish we could join all of you for the August interviews but we'll be several months behind. Best wishes to everyone and a big thank you to GZ for getting it moving again.
  9. I made my weekly call to Department of State this morning and was informed that Guangzhou had mailed out my wife's P3 on July 13. I hope they get all of you with P4's moving very soon and that we don't join in on a 4 - 5 month wait.
  10. I called the DOS last Friday to inquire if our application had been entered into the system. I asked the lady if her screen would show when the application is entered in Guangzhou and she said yes.
  11. My wife thinks they are processing student visa's at this time. If so that process should be concluded soon. I read a few months ago that the American Association of Colleges and Universities was complaining to Congress that they were loosing foreign students to other countries because it was taking an average of 60 or so days to process a student visa.
  12. I had the same question the other day. I really believe it is her name and address as the I-129F and I-130 are our applications, the DS-230 is her application. Just to be safe I prepared one with my name and address and one with hers. Then if the consulate says "wrong" the other is ready.
  13. DOS operators begin work at 8:30 am eastern time. Call at 8:25am and by the time you get through the long recording you should be one of the first in line.
  14. There is a form 169 (Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants) in Links and Resources. Does anyone know if the K1 169 form is the same for a K3?
  15. Has anyone had wedding photos made in Guangzhou? If so, where and how much. Thanks.
  16. I called the helpful folks at DOS today to inquire if the P3 had been sent to my wife. I was told that "no interview has yet been scheduled" and that it takes 90 to 100 days for Guangzhou to receive the application from the states, that it is due to Chinese customs. I'm also interested if anyone has successfully submitted the 230 and 169 forms found here on Candle.
  17. I had a CPA prepare my taxes for 2003. He put down my wife as an exemption and added in her income on line 21 of form 1040. From what he said the income was not excludable. I assume it is only excludable if the US citizen has the earned foreign income.
  18. I was married in November in Guilin. I needed my passport and an official copy of my previous divorce decree. I had to go to the US Consulate in Guangzhou, with these documents, to obtain a consulate document which authorized me to marry in China. Also you should carry an official copy of your birth certificate. As part of the paperwork of marrying in China we had to have my divorce decree translated into Chinese. Go to the consulate first.
