  1. Most hotels in China now provide disposable slippers. If the used ones are the only choice, I would rather walk in bare foot.
  2. Thanks a lot! I am still working on that, getting better though. This morning I woke up at 4am and cant sleep again, having a headache now. Hopefully it will die down little by little. Jet lag is stressful maybe I wont take another long flight for couple years. Thanks again, some replies are really funny.
  3. Just back from trip to China, the jet lag is not a big issue when we were in China, but it bothers us sooo much when we back, I have to stay in bed for over 20 hours the first couple days, and I still feel exhausted. I am wondering is jet lag a big issue for you? I know there are persons who have no problem to readjust at all, but for me, the jet lag bothered me when I flew into Bangkok from Shanghai several years ago, the time difference is only 1 hour between the two cities. I know staying awake is the best solution, but I just cant, be up for 30 mins and I am ready for bed again.
  4. No gain or loss of weight, same as before, I walked about 50 mins commute to work in China, now I walk every day about the time. Walking is a very good exercise.
  5. Chinese people may stick their nose in others business, but normally we will not to break a marriage. It is considered immoral to do that.
  6. I would not suggest that, what if she is an honest person? She would be very hurt if finding out being untrusted and tested. Just ask her about that, like others already suggested, be straight. My six sense tells me there is a red flag.
  7. Spicy duck necks are very very popular snack in shanghai. The office girls order that a lot to kill time in the company.
  8. Yes sometimes we do talk about work. Both of us work in the same field. We talk about clients, co-workers, and some bad experience need to be vented, good stuffs to be shared.
  9. Joanne, I would suggest make a list of the major items then have both parties signed on that list. And make him lock that all, thus you might make it clear of any further responsibilities.
  10. One of the first things I learned is making sure I stuck my tongue out when pronouncing "th". Yes, this is a habit of mine: my tongue is never in the right position for 'th', I think that is due to my habits of speaking Shanghai Dialect. My husband likes my European-Asian accent, he thinks it is cute. The reason I brought it up here is I want people other than my husband can understand me better. My husband told me I have to speak slowly to people who are not farmiliar with my accent. BTW, I appreciate all the replys, it helps me a lot. I will start reading to my husband everyday pretty soon. Thank folks.
  11. I would say if you want a prenup for the peace of mind, make a fair one: one also protect her interests. Cause she is the party to take the bigger chance to come to US, with all her family, friends, on the other side of the ocean. If any unhappy thing happen, she might suffer greater loss than you.
  12. Some girls from big cities such as Shanghai might do that, usually she will have a profeesional photographer do it in a studio, the purpose of that is to keep the golden memory of her body when she is young. Not a lot girls will do that though, but definitely there are some. However, the nude pix will not like porno ones, they are mainly containing a sense of art more or less. I have seen such pix from the most popular bbs in Shanghai, a girl who took such pix posted them on the forum. Porno stuffs will not be allowed on that bbs, but those pix is not deleted cause they are professional pix of human body. She received comments as 'brave' and 'very nice pix'. Some even thought of doing that too cause those pix could be a 'momento of the youth'.
  13. Thanks for all the advice. I do prefer British accent, but since my husband has an American one, I am being influenced by him a lot thats why I am confused a little bit. My husband does like making fun of my accent, like I pronounce 'patio' as 'podio', he also say that way since then to make me suffer. So I make fun of his Mandarine for self-defence. I think reading to him would be fun, so he can correct any my mistakes. Will start to work on that so people can understand me better.
  14. I am frustrated for my English accent. In university, when I was studing English, I picked the British accent, it was more than 10 years ago. After I started to talk to my husband, I was more and less influenced by American accent, mixed with some Asian accent sometimes. So my accent is a good mixture of British, Asian and American accent, and not alway in a correct way. I am not satisfied with my accent cause sometimes I have difficulty to pronounce a word correctly to make people understand well. I dont know how to solve this problem, I have been thinking a solution very hard. I am wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions?
  15. Buffalo is also claimed to be an all American city.
  16. aclassic, Sorry to hear about the rough time your wife has. I remember clearly I had kinda rough time too when I first came here--home sick, had to fix some pending issues, slight depression, being alone at home for too long and so on. The main cause is it is really a big change of life style for me. I used to live a huge huge city where shopping malls, theatres, restaurants all within 5 mins walking. Now we have to drive everywhere, and everything so far away from each other. I have to learn to enjoy the country life. Thanks to my husband, who provide company, comfort, and good advice for me to work out the problems. We found good Asian food markets in the neighbourood, we dine out frequently.(I love western food), we try to have a walk on the trail everyday, we make future plans on our yard and house, and so on. I volunteer to work at the library, and it turns out to be a supreme experience for me(cause I love reading books), and I have been treated very very very nicely by them. Meanwhile, I got to know a few very nice friends too. When I stay at home, I have my books, DVDs(I like wathcing HK TV drama a lot), and CDs, and recently, 2 cute cats, to accompany me. Somedays I cook, someday he cooks, we have Asian and western food in turn. I still remember my early depressions and difficulties, and amaze how everything work out perfectly for us. We are very very grateful for all that. You know what? My new home in State, the whole neighbourhood, the people here, already grown on me. I think I might be homesick if I am out of town! aclassic, just be patient and please tell your wife be patient, it takes time, effort and mutual understanding to adjust to a new place. Hopefully 6 months from now, your wife will be happily readjust there and both of you can enjoy the pleasure of being together here in States. Sawadee
  17. Yes Chinese have a thin towel for face washing, it is thin cause it would be to hard to rinse it daily if too thick.
  18. I bought 1983 TVB version of Legend of the Condor Heroes last August, watched it w/my husband, we really enjoyed it, so when the new release of The Duke of Mount Deer came out, we ordered it. It is a little pricy but really worth the money.

    SO's Job

When I had my interview, my job Did caught the attention of VO, cause me and my husband having almost exactly the same position of the company in the same trade. He asked me about that, I said it was a coincidence. And he asked me if I would plan to work in States, I said it is undecided.
  20. We have western food and Chinese food in turn, and sometimes we even try Thai and Japanese food. My favorite western food includes pizza, pasta, hot dog, French Fries, and even KFC famous bowl(having mashed potatoed, cheese, fired chicken, corn). My husband's favorite Asian food are Chinese noodle soup with Shanghai Bokchoi, shataki, and egg, Tom Yum(Thai soup), and Sushi. Both of us like cooking so we cook in turn. Tonight we are going to have spaghetti, skyline chili.

    SO's Job

What kind of job your SO has is irrelevant to the family reunion visa. If she has some kind of sensitive job(high-tech, scientific, bio-chemistry for instance), additional name checking will be required.
