  1. The Chinese women's gymnastics team Berry Bonds Mark McGwire Maybe three peas in a pod?? Everyone knew Mark McGwire and Berry Bonds were cheating when they set their individual records, but it could not be proven. But all you had to do was to use your eyes and look at them and you knew they where cheating to reach their goals. Now as time has passed, McGwire and Bonds still have their records, but no one wants anything to do with them, except in the towns where they played. People who live outside of St. Louis and San Francisco look at McGwire and Bonds' accomplishments with disgust now. As an example McGwire received only 23.5% of the 2007 Hall of Fame votes and he needed 75%. In 2008 McGwire received only 23.6% of the votes and it is now doubtful he will ever get into the Hall of Fame. McGwire and Bonds are suffering a massive self-induced Hall of Fame snub that will last forever. It seems like the Chinese women's gymnastics team will suffer the same fate. They will be loved in China, but everywhere else looked at as cheaters.
  2. This is being a little melodramatic and silly.
  3. I am glad you had a good experience with your flower supplier. But to infer that all customer service in the US is bad and that customer service in China is great is a little bit of an overreach. If you live or work here in China for any length of time you quickly find this out. Just this morning, I went to local ferry station here in China, to get a copy of the Wall Street Journal. A little Chinese woman at the news stand told me in Chinese, wait wait¡ and then said she would get one. Well, 5 minutes late she came back with an English version of the Southern China Daily which was someone¡¯s daily subscription and was left on the ferry after being read, it was also a day old! She then wanted 3 times what the paper cost too. I rolled my eyes at her and walked away. This type of situation of getting screwed or poor service occurs all the time here. If you worked or lived here for an extended period you would have a completely different attitude. Customer service here beats you down after awhile.
  4. This may not be a good time to be trying to extent your Visa.... Mood turns ugly in Beijing "Crackdown on visitors and residents Chinese authorities are cracking down on entry visas. Reports are circulating among U.S. businessmen that many companies are starting to suffer from a restriction on business visas for legitimate employees. Every foreign freelancer or independent contractor I know here is looking for a sponsor, as they¡¯ve been warned their current ¨C and legitimate ¨C business visas are not likely to be renewed. Even a college student whom NBC agreed to take on for the summer has had to cut short his internship, because he won¡¯t be allowed to extend his student visa beyond August 1; extending a visa was previously a common practice" .....

  6. China limiting visas in HK By MIN LEE, Associated Press Writer 17 minutes ago HONG KONG - Chinese authorities have stopped issuing multiple-entry visas and slowed visa processing in Hong Kong, a major gateway for travel to the mainland, until after the Beijing Olympics, local travel agents said Tuesday. The Chinese foreign ministry, however, denied there was any change in policy. The travel agents said the restrictions on the multiple-entry visas, which can be valid for up to three years, came after attacks on China's human rights record from abroad after its recent crackdown on anti-government riots in Tibet. Protesters have disrupted the Olympic torch relay in Paris and London in the past few days. Chinese officials may have ordered the restrictions to keep tighter watch on tourists before the Olympics, some of the travel agents said. The agents said they received their information from Chinese visa officials in cities including Hong Kong and Shenzhen. But in Beijing, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu denied there had been any change in policy. "China's visa policy is formulated according to China's laws and regulations and in line with international practices," Jiang said at a regularly scheduled news conference. "I have checked this information and China did not stop granting multiple entry visas to foreign visitors." Hong Kong-based travel agent Forever Bright Trading Ltd. said on its Web site that multiple-entry visas were suspended from March 28 until Oct. 17. The Beijing Olympics are scheduled to take place Aug. 8-24. Travel agent Luk Tak said Chinese authorities are now only issuing single- or double-entry travel visas to foreigners in Hong Kong, scaling back a visa program that used to issue multiple-entry business visas that lasted up to three years. Canadian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong Executive Director Andrew Work said the visa restrictions were affecting members of the chamber who travel frequently to China on business. "We've got a lot of members who travel on short notice. Somebody says, 'I need you to go close a deal here,'" Work said. An official at another travel agency, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, said the best visa his agency can currently obtain is a double-entry visa valid for three months. He said China has also suspended one-day travel visas to the neighboring Chinese city of Shenzhen, a popular shopping destination. Luk said fewer Chinese offices are handling visas. His agency used to submit applications to offices at the Chinese foreign ministry's Hong Kong office, Shenzhen and another neighboring Chinese city, Zhuhai. Now, only the Hong Kong office is handling applications. As a result, visa processing times have slowed from same-day to next-day turnaround, Luk said. The travel agency official who declined to be named said the visa restrictions may be due to the Olympics so Chinese authorities "have a better control over the people coming in." Former British colony Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997 but has retained separate political and economic systems. It allows visa-free access to citizens of major Western countries, so foreigners often use the city as a base to travel to mainland China
  7. Does that include taxes & fees ? The lowest I found on a direct flight on United website was $1,124 (incl taxes) to HK. What day of the week did you use?

  9. I have one comment to make: Don't get tangled in the argument: if you don't listen to me, you don't love me. It would be difficult to get out of it. How do you avoid it or reply to that line ?
  10. Seem a great solution to me ! I am taking the child's side on this situation. This arrangement is totally unacceptable and should of never gotten to this point. A child, especially one who was just forced to leave their homeland, friends and extended family, needs her own private space. End of discussion ! It does not matter if a man has to work 3 jobs, 7 days a week; this little girl needs her own private space where she can start to feel safe in this strange country. You said you feel tired and confused, well you got the bed and private room; imagine how this little girl feels without a bed to call her own? This living arrangement is unacceptable. I am standing up for this little girl, she deserves better. She does not have a voice, so I am speaking for her. Get her a bedroom now, not in a few years.
  11. You have no idea what you are talking about. I have seen several US men¡¯s financial, emotional and/or physical lives ruin by their foreign wives. and I have never seen one US man divorced his wife, because she was spending too much.
  12. I completely disagree with this viewpoint. Do NOT get married just to satisfy the 90 day time limit. Please seek the advice of a competent and knowledgeable attorney who specializes in marriage and divorce law, before deciding. The cost of one hour of their time will be insignificant compared to the cost of going through a divorce. It will give you an idea what the consequences of your actions will be. Additionally, go see a marriage therapist yourself and talk through your concerns with an impartial and unbiased professional. Your financial future maybe at risk so get the best legal and professional advice you can.
  13. Wal-Mart is rolliing out a new service for money transfers world wide. This was just in a business paper: "After testing the money transfer service in 100 Wal-Mart stores in the U.S., MoneyGram and Wal-Mart announced Thursday that they are rolling out the service to all Wal-Mart stores nationwide. The Wal-Mart Money Transfer by MoneyGram service will be available at the stores' customer service desk in all 2,760 U.S. Wal-Marts just in time for Mother's Day -- the wire transfer industry's busiest transaction period. "
  14. Dr. Phil's show today deals with a 69 y/o US man that married a 27 y/o Chinese woman, and the deep emotional and painful hurt it caused his family and his children he already fathered. Here's a link that outlines the conversation, if you can not watch it. Unethical Marriages You can also go to DrPhil.com Message Board and read the messages which viewers are posting after watching this story about the pain his family is experiencing. It gives the other side of the story, which rarely gets discussed here.
  15. Hi Lucy, I am glad you are happy now, and things have improved at your host family. I know it is very difficult being away from your family for so long while you are studying in England. Best Wishes,
  16. Hi Frank, Sorry to learn about your situation. I don’t know your full story, is Jingwen and her 21 year old daughter already here with you in the US? So your step daughter got involved while here in the US with this Mexican young man?? Something you wrote, “My step-daughter may be 21 chronologically and physically, but psychologically/emotionally, she's still a child,”….. so it seems like to me from far away and little knowledge, that she was taken advantage of??? Is that what you feel like??? Regards, Duane
  17. My suggestion? Get yourself a good calendar and a job which takes you out of town during those 5 days. Seriously, my ex was the same way, and during those five day periods she: Stabbed me once Bit my thumb almost off (it needed stitches to close it up) Ruptured one of my ear drums from screaming into it point blank at the top of her lungs Kicked out the car window once Etc etc etc…. you get the point I believe birth control pills helps a little and now there is a birth control pill which limits those 5 day periods to only 4 times a year. I hope these 5 days a month problem doesn’t really turn into a 30 day a month problem. Good luck
  18. A few months ago, I was laid off as a Controller and accepted a job as a support specialist for a large software company, since I had experience with their product. The upside was, I work from home everyday and stopped that insane daily commuting of 3 to 4 hours each day. Not commuting anymore really has changed my life. Since working from home is so nice, I can’t wait for early retirement! Anyway, I have a client, a nice fellow from India who is here in the USA working for a company on a green card. I felt uncomfortable at first helping him, since I heard all the stories about green card individuals taking IT jobs away from Americans. But he was a rather nice guy, good sense of humid and rather smart. A very easy client to work with. Today, I was helping him, and at the end of our session, he mentioned that he was leaving the company were he worked. He went on to mention, he is getting laid off. I asked why, since his company is doing okay. He replied his job was getting ‘out-sourced’ to a company back in India! I laughed so hard I almost dropped the phone. Now even IT jobs that foreigners with green cards hold are being out-sourced back to their native homeland!
  19. Interesting comment..... Aren’t you the same person who asked people to pray for you to get a new job, a few days ago? Therefore, you must believe in God? If so, then you should read John 8:11 where Jesus protected the prostitute said “Neither do I condemn you, Go away and from this moment sin no more” This Chinese woman’s behavior, if true is very bad, morality reprehensible and disgusting, and you should describe in detail your viewpoint concerning that type of behavior. But to quickly judge someone, and labeling her as a “Oh she’s a WHORE” before so many people, without know her or just on a third party’ account of a story he read, while at the same time asking people to pray to God, on your behalf, for a better job for you, is difficult to understand. I don’t know if this is right or wrong, but I do know, God doesn’t want us to be labeling any of his children, not matter how poorly they are acting as ‘WHORES’ . If Jesus didn’t condemn a prostitute, then either should I. Bad type of behavior YES, ..... “Oh she's a Whore”..... NO….
  20. Yes, what is the story?? Where does she live and her name? I certainly want to stay away from her.
