  1. Thanks for your ideas guys. I figured that GZ gave the K-2, the marriage happened before the K2 expires and they should be able to file. I think their lawyer is a newbie. The laywer had the file and really dropped the ball on the son's issues. Well thanks again I will pass the info on. Louis
  2. Hi there, Our friend in the NY area arrived on a K1, her son soon followed on a K2. The mother was married in Sept 04 and the son followed soon after. Now for the problem. The son just turned 21. Why was he allowed a k2 visa from GZ just before he turned 21 I don;t know. But when they tried to file for AoS the lawyer told them "he is to old" meaning he is older than 18 or 21 not sure. But GZ just sent him off to the USA and now the lawyer is saying his K2 will expire soon (the standard 90 days) and despite the marriage etc. he must return to China and either: wait for the mother to finish the AoS and then apply for his entry or reapply for a different visa category (student/work/?) So that is the story..... any creative ideas?? The mother is in full panic mode. Thanks, Louis
  3. Congrats to you both. It must be a VERY happy day for you and thanks so much for helping to provide this forum. WOW it would have been double hell with out this advice and sense of community.
  4. It would and it wouldn't. I partially agree with the wait for a K-1/K-3 visa. I think many more people want to immigrate to the US than any other country in the world. Soon the US would be over-run. However I do think they could (and should) be able to give a more concrete timeline so people could plan their lives accordingly. Like many others I was told 6 months and it took 14 months. To me that was the most frustrating. Never been up by Beijing, sorry no suggestions other than... HAVE FUN WITH YOUR LOVED ONE !!!
  5. Ya, every state is a little different on some of these points. We got Mei's SS# before we got married, and she had it in two weeks. Then we were able to add her to the bank accounts and the ID card etc. However in CA, for the EAD, they do not accept EAD applications in person. We had to mail the whole batch (EAD, AP, AOS) and then each application is handled as they see fit. Oct 4th she has the EAD interview. Mei and only Mei must go to the interview at 7am at the local USCIS office. Still have not heard about the AP or AOS.
  6. GREAT!! I am standing here sitting besides myself.
  7. In CA we send the Aos, AP and EAD to the same place. After some time we got the "adjustment of Status Receipt Letter". There is an appointment for an EAD in early Oct but no mention of the AP or Aos interview. Then the daughters included letter has no appointment, that appointment section is "X" out. Eiter way no mention of the AP, maybe I will call them Monday. Any ideas out there?
  8. you may want to try that 001 website, I think there are many more chinese women reading that site, plus it is in chinese. good luck to you!!
  9. Robert-- Not sure if I did a good job but they took our $$$. I got a big thank you!! stats-- Sounds good for you guys, I'm still looking for the NOA's, over a month and nothing yet. Good luck with your AoS. warpedboard-- Ya, we had to file by mail, no options. 9 months, uh. Well hope CA is not an eternal drag. At least we are together, but she wants to be able to work. She is getting bored.
  10. After going through the same confusing process as the rest of you I sent in our paperwork to the CA office specified and confirmed by them. Of course despite my double checking the zipcode was incorrect but it was re-routed by UPS and delivered a few days later. Now, about 1 month later, I see the checks were actually cashed by them! On the AP I did mentioned we were planning to go to China in Oct and then again in July because of her parents failing health. So I requested the multiple entry AP. Wondering if any of you have an experience with CA? How long might it take to get to the next step... the interview? That's it the olympics are over, thought the coverage was better than before, but still not so good. Hope all is well. Louis
  11. Well like most of you here I trudged through the quagmire of web pages, directions and forms. I completed the whole batch (AOS, EAD, AP) and sent them off to the address indicated on the site. Before I sent them I even called them to confirm the address. I sent them UPS next day air, they were re-routed because the zip was not correct, and it was exactly what the site and person said. Well it was delivered and signed for a few days later. The checks have NOT been cashed and no communication has occured. So my question is anybody know who I should follow up with in CA? Also what number should I use for reference, the A# ?
  12. We went to the CA DMV to get the ID card. When asked if she is "eligble" for a SSN card I made the mistake of saying yes. It was before we applied for the SSN but she was eligble... and they said they could not issue the ID without the SSN because she is "eligble". Should have just said "not yet" they don't know and she would have had her CA ID.
  13. A couple more yuan. I've been around China as well. Great country, great people as a generalization. Ya, there are pick pockets, purse snatchers, break-ins, murders and the like. Same here in the US, same in Canada, Brazil, India well I guess all over. In my travels I have been always treated well ny the Chinese. I got many stares in the the small cities and less in the big cities. Once in CQ train station there were a group of thugs roughing up random Chinese people for small money as the police stood by and did nothing. I was traveling with my fiance and her sister, I knew it would soon be "our turn". I asked when they come here can I break their nose etc or would the police then arrest me? I was told "yes, you should not let them hurt you". As it turns out when my turn came I gave him the "Bruce Lee" stare. His friend backed him off and no harm. So even though I had that one minor bad issue it was not directed at me because I am an American, but because I might give up money easy like some Chinese people did. So far five trips, one small issue. Ya, I have had for worse here in the good ole USA.
  14. I think my package weighed 11.5 lbs. Either way your on your way!!
  15. 304 Days WOW! That really sux. I am glad you guys stuck it through and wish you some haste on their parts to come.
  16. We were in the same situation. We did NOT notify of the new address but we were 100% confident that the old house would notify her of her mail immediately. If you are not 100% confident that they understand how important the papers are and that they will notify Linmei immediatley and gaurd the package until she then picks it up (with haste) you should notify them of the new address. Louis
  17. Agreed: But not limited to Chinese women.
  18. Ya, that is the case. Becasue of the K-1 delays and bad timing of the interview I could only visit Mei before the interview and could not return with her to the USA. As an extra step of precaution I brought the whole load of paperwork in case there was a problem at the interview or at the POE. My mistake was not keeping a whole set of copies. Thought I did, but I did not. At the POE she handed over the sealed envelope. The immigration officer asked her what else she had. She said she had some personal papers. He asked to see them. Tax returns, copies of everything, etc. He said "Good we'll keep these too". Mei replied "No, you only need the sealed envelope". He said "Do you want to return to China? These are the papers that are needed for entry." Even though I was right outside the POE immigration she could not talk to me and of course she did not want to "go back to China". She was told another misinformation.
  19. The pettition approval is your NOA2 that was sent to you a hundred years ago. It isn't anything from GZ. I made the same mistake. Trigg, Right, they took everything at the POE. Copies and originals.
  20. Hi all, Already have problems. Part 2 number c: "I entered as a K-1 fiancee of a US citizen... (Attach a copy of the fiancee petition approval)" Seems like I do NOT have a copy. While in China the last time (before her interview) I left the paperwork there thinking they may want to see the originals. Then previously unknown to me at the POE (LAX) they took ALL her paperwork, including the copies and originals. Think I should: send a letter of explanation with the number? get a atty? or? Any ideas would be great... thanks. Louis
