  1. I am just going to list 1,200 dollars. With all of the baby toy's, clothes, and misc items that are very expensive in the states to purchase. Almost everything extra we are bringing back is baby related. I think Yuan has bought enough clothes to last the lil spud till she is 4. She keeps on saying clothes and shoes are cheap here I will buy a lot of different sizes.
  2. Check with your Company. My company has a policy in the contract to take care of immigration issues. If they really want you to go they might pay the fee for you. I would get the I-131 for sure. Make sure you list 18 months for your ex-pat length. I listed 12-18 months and they only issued her a 1 year reentry permit. We ended up making a trip back at 11 months to make sure there were no problems. She will only have 2.5 months out with no reentry permit. Even if your company does not pay I would get the permit.
  3. My Ex-pat contract is coming to an end. To make sure that we have enough luggage Yuan packed almost everything yesterday to make sure we have enough space, good idea. She weighed each bag to not exceed 23 kg. Also a good idea, but the bags were about to burst at the seams from her overfilling them. I stupidly said why not buy another bag to ensure that we have no zippers fail from being overstuffed. My company is paying for the excess luggage fees so we would only be out the 120RMB for the cost of the bag. She had a conniption fit worthy of commentary from Bill Cosby. I have learned enough that I just shrugged and said just an idea. Do other Chinese woman not understand that when you overstress things that they tend to break and or wear out faster?
  4. When return to the states next month We will have 5-6 checked bags, stroller, and 4 carry on bags. I am debating how much value to show on the customs form. there will be 3 tickets so I can show $2400 and not pay taxes. We made a get out of china for new years trip and will only show a 2.5 month stay in China on the form. That will be a lot of luggage for a short trip. I have no receipts from the stuff that Yuan bought online so no real proof as to the value of the items we are bringing back.
  5. Randy, You are correct. We will wait 3 years from the date we return to the states. She wants to have a lot of time to study. She was really scared when she saw the test prep from the USCIS web site. Then I showed her the video that they provide and she was very happy.
  6. North Korea is like a spoiled child. Honestly China should just annex North Korea, I doubt there would be much world outcry if they did this.
  7. Randy, 3 years as a Permanent Resident without leaving the United States for trips of 6 months or longer that is where I am a little confused. We had a reentry permit for her that was valid for 1 year. For some reason they did not allow her a 2 year permit. We did a quick visit to the states before it expired and then we will have been here for another 2.5 months before we move back. I thought the Reentry permit time did not count against her in that regard. Was I wrong in my thinking?
  8. Before I tell my wife this I want some extra minds in the process. Because if I am wrong I will hear about it for a LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG time. Yuan asked about becoming a citizen the other day. Due to her being out of the country with me her continuous time in country is shot. For her N-400 I was reading that she can apply after 3 years if married to a US citizen and having a physical presence in the states for 18 months. We will return to the states April 16th her ROC can be filed late OCT next year. With the processig times running what they are now. Can it be possible that she can try for citizenship almost at the same time that her 10 year GC arrives in the mail? This is the site that I saw the information at for filing the N-400 http://www.immihelp.com/citizenship/naturalization-eligibility.html
  9. Did you opt in at the NVC stage for sending the information electronically? If you did then you must register at the web site in order to schedule the interview. When you register at the web site it should list the items that you need to do before the interview.
  10. Whichever is cheaper or whichever airline you have a miles account with. Sometimes it pays to check the airline sites directly if you are flying into a major airport. Delta had a great deal last week PVG-Buf 679 one way. Be careful on the layover times. That delta flight only had 1:45 minute layover which is not even close enough for GC holder and checked luggage.
  11. I work for a company that builds pollution controls and waste heat recovery systems. Currently the power plants are required to install units on all new plants. the problem is they also install a bypass for the unit at the same time. When the inspectors come they use the pollution control, when they leave they switch to the bypass. there is a rumor in the industry that the GOVT is going to start installing monitors in the stacks that will be tracked via internet to keep real time data for stack gas content. If they do this our business in China could increase by 200-400 percent. It will not happen quickly, even if they did mandate the new standards today. There is not enough capacity in the domestic market to provide the controls for the 1,600+ 200MW and larger power plants which our main units are made for. It would take 2-3 years to increase the production rate and keep quality standards high.
  12. nice, I will have to order one for when we return to the states. I will have to do some more overseas business trips and I will feel better if she has a unit that she can easily use. getting her to not freak out by spending the money to buy it will be the battle.
  13. Dan, can that unit be set to display Chinese?
  14. Have your lawyer that does not know the policy for GUZ call Mark Ellis, he deals with Chinese Immigration issues. http://www.marcellislaw.com/contact.html She might believe another lawyer.
  15. Thank-god it was only Chevy's. If it happened to a Dodge it would of been a tragedy.
  16. Yep, fish oil, vitamins, and dark chocolate milk is to sweet. But only US made.
  17. Tsap, I would guess that one of the 3 natural blondes only wanted 1 implant to save money.
  18. Trip went very well immigration wise, flights would of been ok if United had not canceled the ORD-ROC due to weather. Chinese exit and security was a breeze. 20 minutes we were thru and at the gate, they sent us thru the special lane for the exit stamps. ORD entrance was also very fast. we asked for us citizen with GC holder and they sent us thru the special lane again. 10 minutes While the woman was processing the passports I asked her if she could stamp Emily's Chinese passport she asked why. I said it would cheat the Chinese Govt out of the visa fee. I quick explanation from me and she said no problem. She also said that Emily's visa in her chinese passport was just a regular tourist visa. The explanation that Yuan gave when she went for the visa must of been good enough for them to issue the Multi entry B2.
  19. In 9 months we can file for Yuan's ROC. While we have been living on China for my work the company has provided our apartment. our name is not on the lease or any of the bills required for the apartment. I was thinking about putting the STAR program literature on the packet with the section marked about the company providing housing along with a copy of my contract as part of the packet. As far as other evidence we will have 1. Bank statements from 1 month after wedding till current 2. NYS DL showing our US home address 3. Chinese birth cert for our daughter 4. CRBA from the shanghai consulate for our daughter 5. insurance cards with both of our names 6. Credit card with her as authorized user not really helpful but it will not hurt to send it 7. Electric bill's from Feb of this year on with her name. I know we should of done this sooner but for some reason our local elec company would not add her without the GC, she had to fly back to china before it arrived in the mail due to final trimester of pregnancy. 8. We will get her a secured credit card or loan when we are back in the states in a week. 9. life insurance and 401K showing her as ben 10. Pictures of us with the baby from birth thru the filing of the packet, along with pictures from various trips in china and around western NY. 11. Hopefully we will have a new house in both of our names by the time we file. I could add her to our existing house title when we pay it off next week but do not want to waste the money if we can sell it when we buy the new place. 12. Copy of my work contract showing that I was working in China for 11 months. My main concern is the amount of time she will have spent out of the country during her conditional GC. We have a I-131 covering last year, but it expires mid feb and we are coming back until middle to late april. I do not think we will have any trouble entering this time. But with us only staying 2 weeks then leaving again for 2.5 months they might give us problems with the ROC. She will have been out of country for approx 15 months of her 2 year GC time. The time she was out was because of traveling with her spouse for work purpose so that should time out of country should be ok, at least I think it should be. Anything that I am missing in my thoughts on the packet?
  20. If I come back to China to work again (doubtful to much pollution) it will make things a lot easier for me in Shanghai.
  21. They changed the policy in November, we missed it by 1 day. The good news was the visa was very fast to get for our daughter and easy. took 2 weeks to get her Chinese passport. a day to file the paperwork online, pay the fee and book the interview with the visa unit AND ACS for the same day, interview first ACS visit after. Then 1 week for delivery of course we are in the Shanghai area. so it was pretty fast I do not know how GUZ is for B2 visa's. I would check with the local PSB exit people, they might have a different policy than they do for my wife's hometown
  22. Make sure you check with the local PSB for the policy on the baby getting out of the country. The rules seem to be different depending on your location.
  23. Randy, I checked with a visa agency in the states and to their knowledge it is still possible to get the Chinese visa in her us passport. I think I can get my company to pay for the visa so I might give it a try. Worst case is they say no and we use the multi entry visa to get her back to the states for when we move back. then we can take a trip to DC and renounce her citizenship at the consulate there.
