  1. No. I don't think even the Consualte can tell you when. If your paperwork has been sent to the consulate, all I can suggest is the OCCASIONAL letter to the visa section, KINDLY reminding them that you are waiting and that you appreciate thier hard work. Edit: Note that I said "letter", and not "email". I sent mine via DHL, and each one was a short example of ass-kissing sweetness.
  2. Am I certain? So certain that I bought the cow over 2 years ago. So certain that if she had not gotten her visa by the end of this year that I was going to immigrate to China.
  3. A rogues gallery may sound like a good idea, but the devil is in the details. Let's pretend that you were to administer such a site... How do you propose to handle abuse of this gallery? What's to stop me from just randomly adding pictures of women willy-nilly? How will you handle he-said/she-said disputes? If I put a woman's picture and info on it, will you make a good faith effort to contact her to verify my claim, and what if you find out that she was cheating on me, but I was cheating on her too-- will you put BOTH our pictures up in the gallery? So you're going to require a TRO. How will you verify that a Chinese court has issued one, and does it matter when the closest he/she can come to you (without a visa) is the departure gate at Baiyun Airport? And if she has a visa, then either you have married her and it's too late, or you plan on marrying her but you can cancel the wedding and still be home free. Are you going to have Chinese/English versions of the gallery, so that Chinese spouses who suspect they are just an intercontinental booty call can get in on the action too?
  4. Oh Lord, I pray to you. Please lift the burden from their shoulders and place it onto mine.
  5. Any guy who seeks a Chinese wife with delusions of her being docile, deserves exactly what is coming his way. And when these men who only want a woman to serve them hand and foot, meet up with a woman who is interested only in his bank account, it fills my heart with joy. Because that's one man that a woman wanting a loving husband will no longer have to worry about, and one woman that a man seeking a loving wife won't have to watch out for.
  6. If your BA is in teaching, try to get your MA in something that will compliment your BA degree. IMHO a MA in teaching is about about twice as useful as a MA in "Women's Studies". (A PhD in teaching on the other hand would be VERY useful.) But then what do I know, I tell everybody I'm a high-school dropout. On edit: The PhD in Education is valuable because it's a PhD. Not because it's a PhD in Edu.
  7. The Judaeo-Christian version of this saying: You reap what you sow.
  8. What about those of us who prefer women with large hands, and pronounced Adam's apples
  9. No particular interest in "Asian" women. I will confess to a fetish for "goth chicks", especially the ones with red hair(even if the curtains don't match the carpet) since I was old enough to have a preference. I used to have a VERY unflattering opinion of mainland Chinese.
  10. Guangzhou is OK for food... you could always try the Moon Carol Cafe. Or if you are feeling cheap check out a "Blue & White".
  11. Who'd have thought! Too bad all I have is this non-negotiable Confederate-states currency...
  12. I'm going to have to teach my poovus the system of coins used in the USA. Has anyone had a problem with thier significant other understanding the heiarchy of penny/ nickle/ dime/ quarter/ half-dollar/ dollar coins ?
  13. Mechanical engineer by training. Software developer by trade (developer of intellectual property rights / royalty processing management systems)
  14. Details please. What weapon did the thief brandish to remind you that his wallet was in your pocket? I have proceeded on my nocturnal perambulations under the assumption that anyone in China with the ability to get thier hands on an easily concealable projectile weapon has better things to do with thier time than hit an obvious tourist up for a few hundred RMB. (I have been known to carry multiple wallets on the off chance a pickpocket/ mugger were to make my aquaintance. The idea being to toss the fake wallet HITHER while you dash off YONDER.)
  15. Check the small print on the power unit... I have found that my electric shaver, cellphone charger, laptop, digital camera, and video camera have autoswitching power suppies (chargers) that accept from 50-60Hz and 120-240 volts. My wife's old flat required adaptors for me to plug anything in. Our current (and final) flat does not, the wall sockets accept north american standard plugs.
  16. Stop that. You making me all hot and bothered. Next thing you know I'll be watching Titus with my pants around my ankles B) and a cup of Folgers coffee by my side. B)
  17. The end of this chapter is nigh... My wife will return to her home town for a while to say her goodbyes. In a few weeks I'll be back in China, help her pack (clothing only all the furniture stays) and then we are off to the USA.
  18. Heeheee, ebonics! Ebonics? I'm Irish, 100% Irish I tell ya! As funny as it might have been to educate my wife on the finer points of hoodsmackology, I am unable to do so having never actually lived in the hood, and as a youth developing a preference for dance-industrial over rap. I might attempt to instruct my young lady in the proper oral reproduction of syntax commonly used by those well versed in classical literary works... but then BOTH of us would sound like we have a stick up our bums. (I've taught my wife basic use of the f-bomb.)
  19. Hmmm.... so is my wife supposed to speak Basque or Sanskrit?
  20. Come to Southern California. Check out the San Gabriel Valley. A dozen or so municipalities with a strong to dominant Chinese influence. Alhambra, Arcadia, Montrery Park, Rosemead, Rowland Heights, Walnut, San Gabriel, Diamond Bar, City of Industry...
