Ha!! I like that term. Very descriptive. I think maybe the "official" name for the P-3 Pit should be "pre-administrative processing." It's the time your case is sitting on the mailroom floor waiting to be processed. ...It's not been "received" ...It's not been "processed." ...But it's been delivered. ...It's in the netherworld of pre-administrative processing, more commonly known as "The Pit."

I can't stand being away from my babe and baby son, Sonny. Headed back for another two week trip at the end of November. I'm not holding out any hope that we'll get an interview during that time, which means I'll have to make yet another trip after this...

I think there was some confusion about where you were in the process before. Since you were new to this site people were giving you information assuming you wouldn't have your interview for a number of months. That's where I got confused. If I'm not mistaken, you need to show adequate income (I-134) for your interview which may come in the next 4 to 6 weeks. You said you worked for Coke making $12/hr before. Do you have tax returns that show prior income over the poverty level? And you said you have a job now making $8/hr. Is that full time? Full time would show that you have an annual income of greater than $16K/yr. That's more than 125% the poverty level, isn't it? Sometimes you just need to be a little selective in which documentation you show.

This whole story seems all screwed up. Chinese_lover is literally within a month or so of getting a visa and going to give up and move to China because of the poverty level issue? After working (or waiting) through the rest of this lengthy process why stop just before completing it over an issue that has so many ways to get around?

I thought chinese_lover alread had a P-3... Is that not correct?

It's still kind of a trick they play with regards to your status. I've emailed them a polite inquiry once a week for two months now (via their form) and they always respond in two days. The trick is that they "haven't received" your petition until they enter it into their system and send out the P-3. It's a pointless little void they've created, one that causes all of us great anxiety in "not knowing" and one that creates more work for them because we're always bugging them for some kind of status report. I would rest so much easier at night if I just knew for sure they had our petition and we were just waiting our turn. It would also help if I knew they processed these on a first-in, first-out basis. But that just doesn't seem to be the case.

Youyue and I have discussed this issue regarding Sonny. We came down on the side of each speaking our native language to him. Actually, Youyue wants to speak Mandarin to him even though her first dialect is Sichuan. It's going to be a balancing act. My family and I wil all be speaking English with him. Youyue will be speaking Mandarin. Youyue's family will be speaking Sichuan dialect with him. And he's also going to hear mommy and daddy speaking a mixture of English and Cantonese with each other. If he'd known all this ahead of time he may have elected to stay in the womb. A note: When I took Cantonese classes at San Francisco City College most of the other students were American born Chinese whose parents spoke Cantonese with each other but spoke English to them. Here they were in their 20's and they were frustrated at not being able to speak their parent's native tongue. Ironically, most of them could comprehend Cantonese but they just couldn't spit out the words. I, on the other hand, learned the words fairly easy (because I worked hard at it) but had the damnedest time comprehending anything said to me.
