  1. scooby94 is right: You must have Vista ultimate to see and use Chinese. I have this installed on my system and have had no problems. Works great!! Always do your home work and research before buying software. But Vista ultimate needs a powerful system to run the way it should. Like this one. I can build ya one for a small fee $$$$$$$$ I use Ultimate with an older system. Athalon XP 2200 and it works just find. I did get a decent graphics card the lower level 7600 Nvidia card. I run chinese just fine on this system.
  2. Both. Looking for opinions, though, of how viable this business idea may be. Opinions of Chinese wives/fiances would be particularly valuable. I'm thinking more in terms of a 'business', not a job. I don't have the credentials necessary for a government certified or sanctioned position. I do have teaching experience in the private sector, having taught private seminars on real estate and mortgage finance for years. I think there is great demand for this, particularly amongst women looking for foreigners for love and marriage. My wife took classes and paid a small fortune, much more than was necessary in my opinion. There are probably parents who would supplement their children's school instruction with American English. My wife's niece is the top English student in her entire SCHOOL, but she lacks experience with spoken English, particularly Americanized English. My wife claims that it is very easy to open private school, but she has her degree in english language. She was a teacher.
  3. My wife and I will have our SSN, but our daughter will still have the ITIN. Will she count? I was not sure from the paper. It seems it says the filler, but not anything about dependents. The rebate is 300-600 husband, and 300-600 wife for a total of 1200, children are not counted. I think the final bill had 300 per child added to it.

  5. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...ic=29883&hl= Interesting two questions just alike?
  6. No - they will simply transcribe the shots from the yellow book on to the vaccination supplement - it's actually the I-693A - and put one copy in a sealed envelope, and give you a separate copy. The CS will have the forms. Just had this done for $70 and was surprised to see envelope sealed so well and NO, they did not give me a copy. Told me they were not allowed to give copy. I told them I was concerned if lost in mail and they said to just come back for additional copy if needed. Does this sound right? They gave us a sealed one for wife and daughter with stamps and tape all over. PLus, an open one for each. Sorry to say but all for $50 total for the two. The CS was even within walking distance, so no car. I think the no copy is very strange.
  7. I mention the CA sate test for all high school students. One thing to know is that she must pass this test to graduate, it includes math and english. Often the math is easy for the chinese kids to pass, but the english can take a few tries. If she comes in as a senior than she will not have very many chances to pass. She should enter at the same grade she was in in china, most school will not put her in a lower grade. It would not be good either. The school know how to do this. She should bring a withdrawl grades, so that she does not loose any time transisitioning schools. You still have options, just talk with the school about the different paths. so far everything is looking good for my daughter. She has many friends, very quickly - boys and girls. She seems to very popular. Plus, her school has many asians just from asia just like her. She has met some of the senior girls that came from china and taiwan at the same ages she did, 15. They have helped and told her about school.
  8. Jeff, great just one thing to not worry about! After we got our letter from the ex I breathed a little easier for sure!! We also got the letter, even though we did not really need it since she had full custody. With all the documents, things went well no questions even asked.
  9. Maybe you can go to down to St Louis for some good baseball.
  10. My daughter is 15 right now a Sophmore and just arrived in Nov. She is doing very well they have protected classes for the kids here in SoCal. She takes history, speech and english as proteced classes and is ahead in Math and Science. Bio is hard for her, but she is catching up fast and will soone pass most. English is also hard but going well. She has me and her mom. Her mom was an english teacher, so they both came with okay skills. Daughter was weaker, but who knows next year maybe better. Plus, they can go to jr colllege while htey learn english, so if not good enough for UC school level they can still get in after two years. They do have to pass the state of ca english test, the math will be easy once they can read it.
  11. VERY unofficial of course. So dubbed by myself as this is where I first experienced real Chinese dumplings. Harbin, I am told is the most famous for dumplings. I went to expert instead of us guessing. I also lick dumplings and find them a good festive food. So I think it is great you celbrated with dumplings.
  12. Lots of dumplings. Wow we had dumplings tonight also. We had dumplings last night Sorry to stomp on your post Dave No worries Ed, fellow Midwesterners can jump into my posts anytime. I am a little surprised by the responses though. I figured I'd get blasted for liking dumplings so much. (love 'em actually) Glad to hear I'm not the only dumpling fan. My wife laughs at me for wanting them so often. Back home, she says, they're considered a snack or appetizer at best, certainly not worthy of an actual meal. B) And she's from the dumpling capitol, Shanghai. I could eat 'em for every meal myself. Shanghai is the capitol for dumplings? I would have thought Beijing is the best place for them. I know they have the breakfast style in Shanghai, but in Beijing also. I went to a shanghai breakfast dumpling place in Downtown once, i think on or close to Harlem street close to some of those huge wharehouse chinese grocery stores in Chicago. You guys ever go to the old or new china town in downtown?
  13. Lots of dumplings. Wow we had dumplings tonight also. We can all celebrate by eating dumplings.
  14. It must feel good to get the paperwork all done. Now you can just live your life. Good luck and maybe we can all be as close to Normal (IL) as possible.
  15. I followed the info in Urkidding post (http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28785), but i want to make sure of one point. My daughter is here on a k-2 so no ssn# until we get the EAD or GC (not sure which). I am going to file the W-7 for her. It seems that I am supose to send my 1040 to the Austin address with the W-7, Correct? Now do i still file my 1040 as normal, or just with the W-7? Thanks,
  16. We did the same thing, e-mails, pictures, ticket stubs, only stuff that would show I was there at least once, and in a concise package. The letter of intent we both did our own and got them notarized, maybe over kill but who knows. The more you front load it the smoother things should go later?? Mark and feng!! I also did the same as what they listed above. Pictures, letter of intent from both of us. A statement of our relationship. Ticket stub, hotel reciepts .... all of those items.
  17. In Gardena CA it went very smoothly and fast. Took us right in and got us out in a few minutes. They even filled out daughters form while i helped fill out wifes form just get us out faster.
  18. 1. In Part two answer C, you say that she enetered on K1 and you married within 90 days. Attach a copy of marriage certicate and you NOA 2 (your approval for i-129f) We used c 9 for the I765. That gives you free filing status for the I 765 when filing with the I-485. and even though you are married she entered on K-1. I think dnoblett got the rest.
  19. It really depends upon the field of study. In the sciences and Engineering there is money availible, they do not have to worry. The school will even pay them a stipend. The money does nto come from the school but from the professor which should have research grants. IF the professor does not thave the grant, than the department will fill in the money and have them help teach. Others areas have money too, you have to apply and see what the department says. THe department controls monny for graduate school not the school.
  20. Did they take the divorce agreement from her when she married again? If they did than it should not be a problem.
  21. As we have learned here, everyone's case will move at its own pace. No real average. I hope yours moves fast.
  22. What i am hearing from students in china and even my coworkers at our china branch, is that things are taking a long time. Many students are giving up on the USA and going to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. One of my coworkers have been trying to get a work visa for over a year. no one is getting them fast, all take time. The work visas are just for a 6 month training period in the US, not for a permanent job. I know of several students waiting now 2 years for visas to go to graduate school.
  23. ours is this saturday, so i hope it goes well. only about a 15 min drive for us, so we are lucky.
  24. Sam could you explain better how you go about getting the students transcript transferred, and translated to english. I called the local high school, and the one item I don't know how to get is a "Certified grade transcript" translated to english. My wife in China will check with the school, but if you know the process, I am sure I am others would like to know. Thanks My local H.S. required all of this for my daughters admission to their school. We translated the tanscript and went to the notary and certifited that we translated it correctly. They took it, other schools might not. I think you need to get admited to the school first and than use their forms to get the F-1 student visa. The process can take one to two years under current timelines.
