  1. Congrats! Thanks for sharing, that'll help out a lot of people in a similar situation. Jon & Cindy
  2. We got most of our shots at a local health department. A LOT cheaper and they of course give you records you can show at the required place. No probs. MMR, TD, etc. My wife did need MPV because she's 26 but the health department only gave that shot to kids. So that shot stung both of us! If you have a couple of the required places to choose from, compare prices. I saved about 40 bucks that way. Jon & Cindy
  3. It could have been worse. I detailed my divorce in the EOR letter which the VO read very carefully. But I felt I had to do it because there was a long gap between seperation and divorce. But like what was said before, it's a bummer but it'll be easy to overcome. Good luck! Jon & Cindy
  4. Like what was said before, this is the easy part! What I did was occupy myself with projects and hobbies. Kept me from thinking about it too much and the time flew by. Just be positive and strong for her, she'll appreciate it. No matter what, be optimistic and she'll worry a lot less too. Soon enough you'll be sipping a 20 dollar glass of orange juice at the consulate waiting for her to come downstairs. Good luck! Jon & Cindy
  5. Cindy didn't like pizza when she first tried it but she loves it now. As for breakfast pancakes always work. She hates cereal but donuts are gobbled up pretty fast! Jon & Cindy
  6. I'm going to be in the same boat. I got laid off about 2.5 months ago. I couldn't find another job so went back to school. Cindy is currently working but she'll be going to school in October. I got savings and 401K accounts, equity, etc. I'd hate to have to ask my parents to co-sign but I know they would. Guess we'll see. Jon & Cindy
  7. With some luck you'll have her there in 6-7 months.
  8. Because I knew right away she was crazy and no one else would ever put up with her so I thought i'd be nice and do it!
  9. I would say some nice piece of jewelry maybe with her birthstone in it. Something that she'll cherish and remind her of your first visit. Cindy, on the other hand, suggests a laptop! Good luck! Jon & Cindy
  10. That's what Cindy did. Worked very well plus it's usually free or very very cheap. She almost has her GED and is starting school for CNA (certified nursing assistant). Good luck! Jon & Cindy
  11. I just had my wife type it on a IM and I cut and pasted it on the form then printed it out. That worked pretty good. She had the longest address known to man, always had problems mailing her stuff. Jon & Cindy
  12. That Besta might be the one. Thanks!
  13. That's a great idea! Can anyone suggest a particular model that can also gives directions in Chinese?
  14. It's just a matter of experience and time. My wife recently passed her driver's test (third time's the charm!). At least I don't have to worry about her getting a speeding ticket! But I started her out in the parking lot just to get the basics then onto the road. I think I did kind of rush her at first because she panicked the first time someone was driving behind her and stopped in the middle of the road and I had to switch seats with her. But the next day we just started back in the parking lot and she eventually became more comfortable. Sure there's the moments where you see your life flash before your eyes but that's half the fun! Once we were driving on this windy road, going about 45-50, and a semi-truck was coming towards us on the other lane. She freaked out a little and started driving off the road! I remember when we started driving on the roads I would always have to tell her to speed up. It was like being in a parade! She still drives like a granny, but not dangerously slow. But most importantly is she's very careful and serious about it. But patience is the key. She never even drove in China before so she had a lot to learn.
  15. Just don't give them too much rope to hang you with! When I did mine I just gave them what they asked for. Nothing more nothing less. Maybe 'front loading' will be more beneficial if you have a potential red flag that you want to diffuse. Most importantly make sure she knows exactly what you are sending in case she's questioned about it at the interview. Jon & Cindy
  16. It's good to read those stories so you know what to be prepared for. But I wouldn't worry too much right now. You got A LOT of time, so spread that worry out, pace yourself man! I read every interview result/story I could get my hands on before my trip to GUZ (that's how I found CFL), anyways, at the time it seems most people were denied because the beneficiary's English was not good at all. The other reasons were typically very blatant mistakes like forgetting important dates, facts and/or evidence. If her English is decent and background clean it would be hard not to get pink. Just follow all the instructions, take lots of pics, print out those phone records and chat logs and emails, etc etc. Even conduct some mock interviews with her as the date gets closer. The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed she will be! Good Luck! Jon & Cindy
  17. Good job Robert! This would be a nice sample for people that haven't wrote their letters yet. Although you should change the 'threws' to 'throughs'. And I agree with the others about at least one more visit, then attend the interview for another visit. Looks like you found a keeper. Good luck! Jon & Cindy
  18. He's been at it for 2 years and you want advise from him?! Just kidding!! But seriously I can't imagine how tough that wait has been. I admire your patience and wish you the best of luck. I'm also curious about the problems you faced. Good luck! Jon & Cindy
  19. Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://usa.bbs.net/bbs/01/837877.html?ni=1&ne=1
  20. That was my first reaction too. A lot of girls came out with matching stories and descriptions though.
  21. Just curious if anyone else heard about this.. and a apology if I posted this in the incorrect forum. My wife checks in 001 every now and then(if you don't know, it's like a Chinese version of this site but mostly from the girl's experience). And there are a few girls with very similar experiences so here's the basics without getting into exact details. So this girl has a early interview at GUZ. No problems, she gets pink and is eagerly awaiting her visa. Later that day or maybe the next she gets a call from GUZ. In one example, the caller asked if she could bring in her birth certificate or something of that nature. She brings it in and they say they don't need it. Then the guy who called her appears and basically asks her out for dinner. Saying that it was because of him that she got the early interview time. He introduces himself as a very important person that can influence the outcome of the visa arrival. Another example is this same guy calling another girl who just passed her interview and congratulated her and stated his importance and asked her out for dinner. So basically a d-bag taking advantage of the situation. I think those girls should send strong complaints to GUZ. Just curious to see if anyone heard anything about it. Jon & Cindy
