Best way to send money to China?
Jon & Cindy replied to Jon & Cindy's topic in Communications, Planes, Shipping & Money
Think I'll give xoom a try. Thanks! -
Congrats! I think we got a little lucky how things worked out where I took enough time for GUZ, then back to her home for a fews days, then back to U.S. for a few days before I had to go back to work. I didn't want her to come here and be alone during her first days. So, if you can, show her around and make sure she's comfortable with everything. Plus get to the SSN office. Make sure to have a lot of food stocked!!!

p4 questions (right before the interview)
Jon & Cindy replied to caliorbust's topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
My wife had my passport with her during the interview as I was waiting downstairs. The VO looked at it and I believe it made a good impression. It's also another way to confirm your previous visits so why not? Jon & Cindy -
Any Korean Air experiences
Jon & Cindy replied to JonathanM's topic in Communications, Planes, Shipping & Money
Korean Air is one of the better choices. I remember watching the Olympics (Ping Pong!) at the Seoul airport. 2 out of the last 3 times I flew to China I went with the one that flies first to Tokyo (I think I went with that one because of a overall shorter travel time). Where you basically have to sprint to get to the connecting flight in time. Can't remember the name of the airline, but pick the Korean one over that one. My first visit to China was 2005 and I told myself I'll never fly that far again. Lies! All lies! -
We initially submitted the I485 in April '09 and they requested some additional info in September. I called them about a month ago and got the ole' "call us back in 45 days if we still aren't doing our job". Wonder if that would work on my boss? This took longer than getting the visa! But it's all good. I was nervous about it because I was laid off at the time. But now the card is coming and we both got jobs. Things are looking up! Jon & Cindy

I checked both actually because I wasn't sure and both were 4 months.
-
oh, and processing time is estimated at 4 months...
-
Thanks for the quick response. It's being processed at CSC. Last update was they received the requested info late September. I wonder if the response time resets for that. Anyways, I'll try to call tomorrow I guess.

What's the most effective way to inquire about the status of the I-485 application? Thanks.

Jon & Cindy replied to Kyle's topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
You don't need it but good luck anyways. The best is yet to come! -
Glad to hear the great news! Congratulations!

Exactly. The first thing I noticed was there didn't seem like there was too much difference. I think I would be happier in Hawaii though!

Ok I really want to learn to speak mandarin.
Jon & Cindy replied to RobertH's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
Hmmm, anyone every try Rosetta Stone or something similar? If so, how did it work out? -
Ok help me pick a time to go to China.
Jon & Cindy replied to RobertH's topic in Communications, Planes, Shipping & Money
yah, it's worth it to go to the interview even if it means waiting a little longer. Then you get to bring her home! -
Glad to hear the good news!! Congrats!!!

How much money would I need?
Jon & Cindy replied to Louis(^_^)'s topic in Consulate Process: P-3 ~ Interview
Consider staying at the Yangs for a good rate and they will provide assistance for you and your SO, many here have stayed with them, including myself and my wife. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=505518 I recommend staying there as well. Plus the consulate is right around the corner. -
If you liked this one, you will like "The Road Home" http://www.dvdbeaver.com/FILM/DVDReviews12/a%20the%20road%20home%20zhang%20yimou%20dvd%20review%201/roadhomeposter2.jpg Also by Zhang Yimou, set in the countryside about a farm town girl's love for the teacher who comes to her village to teach at the elementary school. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0235060/ I didn't see 'Not One Less' yet but it does sound promising. The Road Home, on the other hand, I enjoyed a lot. Probably the best acting I've seen from Zhang Ziyi as well.

I agree. Better safe than sorry. I detailed my one and only divorce on the EOR letter and had the ex write up a statement (which wasn't needed). But you never know so it's best to be prepared for anything. And make sure your fiancee can field the questions about both divorces (dates, reasons, etc.). Good luck! Jon & Cindy
