  1. Out of curiosity I wondered how much the Yuan had dropped over recent years. This is what I came up with. Actually, it has held pretty steady until recently. http://i10.tinypic.com/4v6tv1u.jpg
  2. Congratulations, Carlos! Good Luck.
  3. My wife got a social security card right away. The only problem is, that on the front are the words - "Valid for work only with DHS authorization." I assume that means she has to have the green card anyway.
  4. Congratulations and best wishes.
  5. Thanks for the information everyone. I have found someone who will be of great help. I have made dozens of phone calls and finally called our local community college. I've called them before, but never got to speak to the right person. This time I did. I made connection with a Math student (older Chinese lady) who also speaks English. Ivy and I went to meet her yesterday. She is a very nice lady and Ivy liked her right away. She has agreed to come to our house and tutor Ivy. Just a little side note: Ivy took great pleasure in bargining the price. She got the lady to agree for less money than I was going to pay her. Don't worry, I'll make sure to reward her for her efforts. To me, she is a Godsend and came along at the right time. Juette, good to hear from you. I hope things are going well. The Dvd's might work after Ivy gets a few lessons. I'll keep them in mind.
  6. Thanks everyone. I will look into some of your suggestions. The local colleges around, in particular, California State Univ. San Bernardino have offered no help. I called 3 or 4 different offices there. I'll keep you updated on my progress. Thanks again.
  7. I live in the San Bernardino/Redlands area. I am trying to find a Chinese person who can help my wife with English. I have tried the local ESL classes, but that is not going to work. Does anyone know of someone who might help? Thanks
  8. If G-325A that seems to not be a problem. Note it is not 4 copies of the page, G-325A is a 4 page document, fill in page 1 and print out all 4 pages, each is slightly different so they are not "4 copies". They'll probably get me on that because I only sent the one page.
  9. I sent my 485 on Tuesday and just got this message from tracking: "Your item was delivered at 4:42 AM on July 26, 2007 in CHICAGO, IL 60680" It made it there. The only thing I forgot to do was make 4 copies of the biographical page. I sent one good copy; I hope they will accept it that way. And, yes, I did get the 693a supplement done. Good luck to everyone.
  10. Fantastic! Congratulations!
  11. I sent my I-485 off today by Priority Mail. Now, we wait and wait, and . . . It sure is a lot easier waiting with my sweety here with me. (Yimi, how are things going?)
  12. Ok, thanks everyone. I don't have time to do the IRS thing. I'm trying to beat the deadline at the end of the week. It looks like I can mail my package off on Tuesday.
  13. Just bumping this up to get an opinion.
  14. Randy or anybody I have one more concern then I'll lay this to rest: On my federal income tax return for 2006, I only have a copy from my bookkeeper which is unsigned. She has her stamp on it, but the IRS has the original which I did sign. Will the copy be okay as is or should I go ahead and sign it. My bookkeeper is no longer in the state. Thanks
  15. Okay, thanks Randy I believe I have it straight now. I'm also trying to help a couple other guys (off line) who are confused about all of this. I want to make sure I have the correct information.
  16. They wouldn't... The green card satisfies the proof of work eligibility and identity necessary to work in the United States. Most employers use an SS# as an identifier and we all know the SS# is used to deduct taxes from our paycheck. The concern for EAD has been the length of time it takes to receive the green card. In some cases I've heard of and seen, it takes just as long to get an EAD as it does the green card and the argument could be it's a waste of time and money Ron. Be well my friend! Thanks, Eric That's what I needed to know. Best to you and your family.
  17. It gets back to my previous question -- if she files for AOS and gets a green card and she already has the S.S.#, then why would she have to file EAD?
  18. Family-Based Applications If you are filing for lawful permanent resident status based on a family relationship with a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident, file your I-485 at: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services P.O. Box 805887 Chicago, IL 60680-4120 http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD Thank you Tony If I'm reading correctly, I can file for EAD "with" the I-485 - correct? Or do I have to send mine to Laguna? Do I send a seperate check? I knew the case register would ring again. Hell, I'm filing for AOS and she has a SS card. Now they want to squeeze more out. Would my catagory be (a)(6), ©(9)? both? A friend of mine who has already filed his AOS wanted me to ask this question: If the green card and social security number is issued, why can't the recipient legally go to work?
  19. Just about everything pertaining to AOS is unclear. If we live on the West Coast, where do we send it? Chicago? Also (EAD) what is needed to file? How much? I hear the case register ringing again.
  20. I was also wondering about the x-rays. Ivy still has hers, unopened. Do we just hang on to it for later or just dump it?
  21. I hate to tell you what I have to pay. I've now surpassed David on calls. I called about 12 and got the same reply from all of them. They insist on a blood test and TB test. All are over $130.
  22. There are some "Sleazy" business operations going on in the U.S. including check cashing stores, loan sharks, some privately owned vocational schools, etc., and now I would add civil surgeons to that list. It is one of the biggest scams I've ever witnessed. Many of them will take "cash only" -- now what does that tell you?
